I have been to Greens several times over the past year or so and love their fresh and interesting take on vegetarian dishes. It’s also a gorgeous space with easy parking, especially in SF. I love that the menu is marked with GF or GFP (gluten free possible) options. I went with my family for a celebratory meal and the server seemed to understand the need to avoid cross contamination due to the fact that I and another family member have Celiac. Unfortunately, the entrees came out of the kitchen concerningly fast and I am concerned that the GF labeled dessert I ate was either not GF or somehow was cross-contaminated somewhere in the process of plating it. Huge disappointment and I am feeling the effects of gluten the next day. Be very cautious about what you order and be vigilant if it is busy or the food comes out quickly.
UPDATE: Greens never fails to impress. The food is spectacular and each dish is different and delicious. We were a party of four and ordered everything to share, which was absolutely the way to go. The service was also phenomenal. I have celiac and we had a specific mushroom allergy in our group as well and the kitchen caught a potential concern and circled back with us so we could change our order. The menu was clearly marked and the server was totally on top of it. It’s such a treat to visit a restaurant where I can relax and safely enjoy the experience. Greens is a San Francisco institution at this point, but it has done an amazing job throughout the years of evolving and staying fresh and current. Always a treat to eat here!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I called the restaurant about a week before to make a reservation and ask about cross contamination and the hostess who answered the phone was so understanding and so helpful. She talked to both the general manager and to the kitchen and both assured her that they had served people with Celiac before and took cross contamination seriously. When we went our server was great and checked with the kitchen when needed to confirm a dish was gluten free. The food was so amazing and I didn't get sick!!! I am so sensitive, so I hardly ever eat out. It was so wonderful to have yummy food and feel that it was safe!
They have gluten free marked on the menu and gluten free possible marked. We ordered 2 orders of cauliflower cakes. One gluten free one regular. The first order came out and we asked if it was gluten free, they said it was so I ate it. 30 mins later the waiter came back and said that one actually wasn’t gluten free. 3 people came to the table to try and figure out what was going on. They are totally Incompetent. Don’t go here if you’re concerned.
This was a fantastic vegetarian menu with most dishes being GF friendly. I didn't confirm the kitchen space, but the staff was well information about the dishes and about two thirds of the menu was naturally GF, and a couple more items were adaptable (eg swap couscous for quinoa).
