To walk in and be told everything was gluten-free (except one soup) was like being a kid in a candy store. I can't remember the last time I had chile relleno in a restaurant. My daughter, who also has allergies, ordered the beef chilaquiles. My husband also had the chile relleno and our other daughter had mole poblano. We all loved everything.
No allergy issues. The one not gluten-free soup has angel hair pasta in it and the waitress told me it is cooked in its own dedicated pot and utensils used only for it, so no cross contamination. The service was great. It was a very enjoyable meal. We will definitely come back when we visit Padre next.
Since 2010, Mexican food is considered Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the
United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture.
This means that UNESCO, for its acronym in English, is committed to protecting and preserving the culinary traditions of Mexico for posterity. This same title has been given to religious festivals, performing arts, dances, crafts and languages around the world.
Mexico occupies the fifth place in the world for the variety and quality of its international food, it stood out in the II International Congress of Chef's in which 300 specialists from Latin America, Europe and the United States participate.
All but 2 items (noted on menu) are GF. Family owned so everyone is knowledgeable and invested in delivering a safe dining experience. I felt completely safe and the food was incredible!
We tried this restaurant based on all the 5 star reviews and that it offered so many gluten free options. Imagine our surprise when everything is clearly marked gf and only 2 soups were not gf and they are clearly marked. The restaurant is small and casual and family owned. We got there around 5:45 on a Monday and there was only one other table occupied. By the time we left an hour later almost every table was taken! The staff is warm and welcoming and obviously take great pride in their food. What I loved most is this is not your typical taco, burrito, nacho menu, you can get that anywhere. What is offered here is authentic Mexican food, elevated comfort food. From the first bite to the last, everything was outstanding. Add in the house made sangria and you have the perfect meal! One side note for families, outside food is not allowed. One family tried to bring in a meal from a local burger joint because one of the kids did not like Mexican food. Our server explained it is not allowed for various reasons and tried to offer an alternative he might enjoy instead. She was patient and kind but remained firm. Please take that into consideration when bringing young children.
Great food that is naturally gluten-free. They are very proud of this fact and the food is excellent. The waiter knew everything about the menu items. It was an excellent experience for my wife and me.
10/10 would come back. I am so sensitive that I do not eat out. I was hungry and had no choice on vacation. Their menu is 99% gluten free and they’re super proud of it. They have 2 menu options that are not gluten free and I asked about cross contact and he said “we will take good care of you. Please don’t worry.” And I didn’t have to worry. It was the best food I ever put in my mouth and I didn’t get sick at all. Very happy.
This place is great! It is authentic Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. As such, it is naturally void of wheat / gluten. This is very much a family business. Our waitress convinced me to try their daily special which her husband had slow cooked for 36 hours. It was pork on the bone and it was delicious. My wife had fish and it was also great. Nothing fancy, but I highly recommend!
When I spoke with the server they confirmed that everything (except a soup magbe) is gluten free. Since they don't use any gluten ingredients, nothing to worry about. The service was great, the people who work and own this restaurant are fantastic and very nice. I've had the green chicken enchiladas every time because I love them so much. The sangria is tasty too. I've never had any reaction from their food.
Ate there yesterday for the 2nd time, just had to have the Chicken Enmoladas again because it's just that delicious, I thought I would never have mole again. The only item that has gluten is the fideo and it's clearly marked on their menu. My husband had the Tostadas de Pollo and was impressed, he isn't easily impressed especially when it's a gluten free restaurant. Not only is the food delicious but it is made from scratch! And the owners and employee are absolutely wonderful and very welcoming. I had to ask again and spoke with the wife if they really didn't use gluten, she confirmed again her husband cooked everything with fresh ingredients and the only gluten was the fideo. I asked if there was a reason for this and she states she doesn't know, her husband is the one that cooks the food. I'm really curious to know but didn't have a chance to ask last Saturday when we ate there as we got into a whole different conversation that day. If you are at the Island you have to try this place. If you know of anyone with Celiac do them a favor and let them know about this place.
What an amazing little place. This ain’t a boring Tex-Mex but an authentic, very high quality and healthy, Mexican restaurant with a 35-year of experience chef and his wife running the place. As Texans from DFW we have eaten in many Mexican restaurants in our lives but this one is the best. What an amazing mole, enchiladas, fish, beans, etc. Even the chips and salsa were unique, which is unusual. Service is amazing. Both grownups and kids couldn’t get enough so we came back during each day of our stay in Corpus. As a bonus for us, almost the entire menu is gluten free (except the soup). This place should be a part of any plan you make in Corpus Christi
Exceptional!!! Lovely little place with truly incredible food. We will be back as much as we can on this trip!! We’re vegetarian but asked for a side of the Mole sauce since it’s so hard to find gf- unreal. Definitely try if you get a chance to come through!
