The food was great and the staff was diligent about finding out if the marinades were gluten free. One star off because there was no way to distinguish in the all you can eat bbq deal which foods were gluten free, which made it more cumbersome to enjoy that offering.

It’s an Asian restaurant, so there aren’t a ton of options, but you can make it work. Nearly all the meats can be ordered with either plain salt and pepper or with the pesto marinade or garlic marinade (my personal favorite!). All the vegetables that you grill in foil packets have soy sauce and butter on them but you can order them with no soy. The bibimbap can be ordered with no sauce. Pretty much all the appetizers are no-go’s (they’re either fried or have soy, but the edamame is safe), and the soups and salad dressings have soy in them as well. I always bring my own soy sauce packets and often will bring a bottle of GF teriyaki sauce to put on the bibimbap. Nearly all the servers speak English perfectly so as long as you tell them you have an allergy and can’t have soy sauce on anything, you shouldn’t have any problems. While it can be disappointing to have so few options, the garlic marinade is really sooo good, and I’ve never gotten sick after eating there.

The gluten-free options are a little confusing on the menu, but ask your server for help. Basically, half of the meat options can be done without marinade and seasoned with salt and pepper instead. They are still great cuts of meat. Then you cook the meat at your table, and they have several gluten-free dipping sauces to choose from. Some sides are gluten-free (rice, veggies), and they have mochi for dessert!

Place is amazing. If you are at the Beverly Hills location ask for Mark. He’s my go to guide for the gluten free world of Gyu-kaku. The sweet soy and spicy soy on the table are gluten free (don’t touch the ponzu). Also you can order meats and chicken without the marinade. The salt and pepper and basal marinades are gluten free. Love this place. Mark, as always you are my homeboy.

This restaurant is not gluten free friendly by any means. Unless all you want to each is grilled meat. Staff was not knowledgeable about gluten free options either.
