Kind of a disaster for gluten free eaters.
Hana Hou made what I consider to be the biggest gluten free faux pas imaginable - confidently declaring that a meal is gluten free without doing anything to check of perhaps even knowing what the words mean.
I was served the deep sea (mahi-mahi plus garlic shrimp) that inexplicably came with a side of decidedly not gluten free macaroni side salad, and after taking a single bite of the seafood portion my throat exploded in itchiness (I go into anaphylactic shock when I eat wheat, unlike celiacs).
When I went to the counter to inquire again about ingredients, I was basically told “oops” — yes we dredge everything in flour before cooking.
So there you have it. Instead of enjoying a gluten free meal I’m praying I avoid the hospital.
Coupled with the fact that the gluten free pizza crust has been discontinued I would think twice about eating here if you’re gluten free and insist at a minimum that you speak with the chef about ingredients beforehand.
