First, I’m not celiac. I did not ask about separate fryers. However, I am very sensitive. I had the rockfish fish and chips here and they were wonderful. The ambience is super cool and different. And across the street you can see the Willamette Falls. Great getaway on a cold weekend day for lunch or dinner.
I had been wanting to try this Pub for ages & couldn’t believe it when I discovered that they had GF Fish & Chips on the menu. Delicious! You get to choose between cod or local rockfish, and I find that a large platter is perfect for two. Have also enjoyed GF battered mushrooms, battered pickles, onion rings, macaroni & cheese and Daily Fruit Crisp (cobbler). My favorite was Mango Crisp! Feels like stepping overseas into a Scottish pub.
Server didn't know what gluten was. When I told the server that I had a gluten allergy and asked about the cottage pie, I was told I couldn't have it because it has potatoes and cheese. Then he asked if I had Celiac, and told me I had to get one of the fried things that is marked gluten free, not the meals that are logically gluten free. He tried to convince me to order fish and chips. We ordered GF fried mushrooms and they were good, but after how the server acted, I was honestly scared the whole time I was eating them. My bf ordered a beer that the menu indicated was gluten free. The beer's label indicated that it was not gluten free.
With staff this poorly trained, this does not seem like a safe establishment.
The fried pickles are amazing! One of those rare gems where I had CHOICES! My kids ordered their mac n cheese and fish n chips GF so I could try them. They were delicious!
Upon asking about gluten free options the waitress stated they have dedicated
Fryers without me even asking so I felt safe. Menu items that can be made GF are clearly marked.
I love this place, I go there almost weekly, one thing I love is not only the dedicated gluten free fryer, but you can substitute gluten free options for nearly if not everything on the menu, plus if you like marzipan they have an almond flour chocolate cake slice that is definitely worth a try.
THEY HAVE GF ONION RINGS! They were amazing. My husband and dad who are gluten eaters even confirmed they’re some of the best onion rings they’ve had. Definitely was my favorite part since it’s been about 12 years for me. Also loved the GF chicken strips.
They have dedicated GF & Shellfish free frier, so no breaded shellfish. But I needed that for my SF allergy so I was PUMPED!
The Mac was good, a little on the drier side in my opinion. It is made with Parmesan and I don’t love parm in my Mac personally which is why I probably liked it less than others.
Overall we will 100% be back.
Also, downstairs lets kiddos join, while upstairs is adults only.
Very sensitive celiac- did not get sick. What a wonderful time we had here. We were down near Oregon City to go on a walk at a state park nearby, and found this spot with good reviews. The staff understood GF and explained that they had a dedicated fryer, so we got a fish and chips with cod and it was SOOOOO good. In the top two GF fish and chips that I’ve had. The breading is perfect and crunchy but not too thick or heavy, and the chips were these perfect wedges that were crispy but so soft inside. They also have a patio that overlooks the waterfalls below which was rad to be able to eat delicious food and have a view.
Went to eat at the pub two nights ago as their menu stated that they had gluten free options. After having to flag down our server we ordered while being very specific about the gluten-free needs. When our appetizers came out my mom confirmed the mushrooms were gf. When the dinner was served, we were short the gf mac n cheese. Another server came over to explain they were out of it...but no one bothered to let us know beforehand. We went ahead and ate the gf fish and chips and very shortly after I started to feel ill. The same server (not our original server either time) confirmed that, although the ticket stated gf for appetizer, the mushrooms served were not. One of the servers told my mom that she was sorry and took the mushrooms off of the ticket. If you have allergies DOUBLE CHECK YOUR FOOD, IT SHOULD COME OUT FLAGGED IF IT’S GLUTEN FREE!!!
Food is wonderful! Dedicated fryers for gluten free food. Good for dairy free.
There are only 2 things on the menu they can guarantee are gluten free which are the Mac and Cheese, and Fish and Chips. Theses ate great items though that you don't typically find gluten free. Staff assured me that these items are prepared in a separate part of the kitchen and fried in s dedicated fryer. I tried both dishes and they were great. They also have a great list of gluten free ciders.
The BEST Fish n Chips (even comparing at the coast)!!! Yum
CELIACS BE WARNED. They advertise on their menu that all of their fried food (like fish and chips) can be made gluten-free. It's a shared fryer and the waitstaff is grossly uneducated. They said it was Ok because they scoop the crumbs out of the oil first...
Super disappointed. We didn't feel comfortable eating anything after the waitress explained gluten free to us so we sat and watched everyone else eat.
Sadly, this place is owned by a physician who is apparently trying to capitalize on this 'diet fad'
Good Cider menu. Couple GF beer options. Decent prices. GF Mac & Cheese was excellent. GF fish & Chip were awesome!! We will be back!
Awesome mac and cheese, and a hand full of gluten free beers :)
Wait staff is awesome. Mac & Cheese very good. Dined there twice with no repercussions.
