No one could tell us what sides were gluten free. Three people, three answers including the chef who changed his mind on the beans and corn pudding and couldn’t decide. Finally got irritated at us and told us to have coleslaw and pickles. The guy serving the sides while eating teaspoons of corn pudding from the buffet added a nice touch. 🙄
Decent BBQ place. Most meats are GF, maybe half the sides, but sides are cafeteria style and cross-contamination from stuff falling into nearby bins while scooped is a very real possibility. In an area where a lot of the takeout GF kind of blurs together it's a great way to change up lunch, though.
This place is a little chaotic at first trying to understand how you are supposed to get food or what your options are. After you get over this hurdle, this place is great. Spicy sausage and the brisket was the favorites for our family. Additionally, being from the South, they have excellent SWEET TEA!!!!
At first we were a little unsure, but after speaking with a manager he talked us through all of their practices. He seemed very knowledgeable about cross contamination and when we asked he talked his staff through everything to make sure we felt safe. On top of that the food was incredible. Some of the best brisket I’ve had (and I smoke my own) and my fiancé said the chicken was great as well.
Called ahead and received positive answers about GF & safe food. They have a separate GF menu. Food is served cafeteria style. The server who did the meat changed his gloves when asked (he had just handled bread). I will go back if I’m in DC.
When I called the restaurant to inquire about gluten free options the person on the line read aloud to me the menu and said it all contained gluten. When I asked for gluten free options she then told me that the sauce has gluten in it. Apparently the people who work there do not have access to the information shared on this website. For that reason I would not go here.
Loved it! They are very knowledgeable about celiac disease. I had their BBQ Beef ribs, Cucumber salad, and White Shoepeg Corn Pudding. All were delicious and very affordable. The atmosphere is laid back and in a very nice section of DC. Next time we are in DC, we'll definitely go back.
They have a separate allergen menu that Cleary specified what is gluten free. They have a great amount of options but a strange set up. It is a cafeteria style dining experience. we sat at the bar andjust let the bartender put in our orders. Food was good but I was shocked to see they didn't have any pulled meats. that was the only disappointment. I think I've had better bbq elsewhere though.
I'm always happy when I eat here because of the options, but only when my workplace is buying (it's expensive). Like the beef brisket and corn pudding. Miss the german potatoes from my pre-Celiac days. Great overall but my favorite gluten-free BBQ place is Pork Barrel in Alexandria.
Good enough gluten free menu but didn't find staff were accommodating or helpful when asking for menu advice simply telling me to refer to the gluten free menu when I asked about sides and cross contamination.
Very Celiac friendly! I asked for GF menu and checked it out first! Then asked all the food servers to change gloves. They were all very nice. The beef brisket was yum corn pudding delish, cole slaw the best and collard greens that made a Tennessee girl sing! Always ask questions and be your own advocate!
Great food! This is one of the few gluten free BBQ places that I know of. The food is great and there are tons of options. Ask the host for a gluten free menu before you find a table. Make sure when you go to order your meat selections that you ask the people behind the counter to change gloves and change the lining on the scale they use to weigh the meat. Since they have a few meat options that have gluten it is important that they change the scale's lining paper and gloves to avoid cross contamination. Also, remind the host that you do not want bread. Sometimes that instinctively throw a alive of bread on too of the meat since it is such a routine thing for them to do! Enjoy!!
