It’s nice to have a safe spot in SD to go out to that’s a step up from casual food. The staff is great and so is the food. Most items on the menu are gf, 2 of the 4 non-gf foods can be made gf, and they have a gf fryer. The sushi is good though it’s not the tastiest I’ve had, and the fish is very fresh and high quality. My favorite thing was the oyster. I look forward to going back and trying more.
This was honestly one of my favorite meals I’ve ever had. We sat at the bar with the sushi chefs, which I would highly recommend. It was fun to watch and everyone here is so friendly. I told my server I have a gluten allergy, she was very knowledgeable and confident about what I could eat. Only 3 things on the menu were not GF, one of those could be modified to be GF (the roll that has a pickled ingredient, they can make it without). They only use tamari sauce, only GF items go in the fryer. Very little concern about cross contact and our sushi chef was right in front of us anyway. So so good!!! We will be back anytime we’re in the area!
I cannot speak highly enough about this place. Truly one of the best meals I’ve had in my entire life. I would literally move to San Diego just to eat here on the reg.
First of all, I feel extremely safe.
Secondly, chef is truly inspired. My server, Aiden, had some phenomenal recommendations from the Sake to the sashimi I ordered. I highly recommend the perch. Lastly, Jessica, the manager was also so gracious to let me be seated so shortly before the kitchen closed. From high quality ingredients to a truly caring staff, this place is a 10/10. I hope to be back again soon!
Amazing for celiac! They had tons of gluten free options and were very knowledgeable about what was gf. They even had tempura-like options that were gf breading and gf fryer. Sushi was amazing and ambiance was great. Upscale experience for a date night and will def be back!
Himitsu is a celiac’s dream. Since being diagnosed 5 years ago I have really missed good quality sushi because of the fear of cross contam with soy sauce. Himitsu has AMAZING sushi and they don’t even have any soy sauce, all they use is tamari! Their tee shirts say “No Soy Sauce”! Service was a 10. Ambiance was great. Definitely going to stop by again!
Wow! Almost everything is gluten free INCLUDING the soy sauce, the tempura, and all things fried. The service is great, the fish is better, and eating without a worry is the best. It’s rare to find good gf Japanese food. Also, their desserts are gluten free (including tiramisu!). Wow wow wow! We’ll be back!
Incredible restaurant - they make their own soy sauce in house and it’s gluten free; only 3 things on the menu (2 sushi rolls containing yamagobo and the eel nigiri) had gluten, every other item on the menu is safe. The food is TOP NOTCH. They only have one fryer but nothing with gluten goes into it, so it is safe to eat all the tempura items.
There was only one gluten containing item on the menu, everything else was gluten free. I don't remember which item it was and if it was marked but just let your waiter know and they will tell you everything, the waiters and chefs there were amazing. I asked about the fryer and they said no gluten containing items go in the fryer. Had an amazing experience not just in terms of gluten but overall. We sat at the sushi bar which made it easy to ask questions. Also it was my first time trying uni and it was delicious there which I read afterwards is not always the case. Also had a variety of different sushi and everything was delicious.
UPDATE: I went back and a waiter (different than last time) confidently told me that there is NOT a gluten free fryer. I specified that I needed my food made in a separate area from anything fried. I tested my three dishes with my NIMA and all came back gf, and I didn’t get sick! Also, the food was delicious. The food was amazing, and I didn’t get sick. However, my waitress said that the fryer was not gf due to shared oil with the sandwich meal. The other reviews say it is gf, so next time I am there I will ask for clarification. I avoided anything fried to be safe this time.
Hands down - BEST sushi I have had since being gluten free. They fry their tempura items with gluten free bread crumbs. Their fryer is a dedicated gluten free fryer. They make their own gluten free soy sauce in house. You can have almost anything off the menu - they have one sandwich that isn’t gluten free. And two sushi rolls that aren’t gluten free. I had the shrimp tempura roll and I could have easily had 10 of them - so dang good. I wish we made it back for another meal during our trip. It’s a small restaurant so reservations are recommended. I will be dreaming of these rolls! And the whole staff couldn’t be nicer!
UPDATE!!!!! Fryer is now back to 100% SAFE!!! I called today (10/8/2022) and they told me that everything that goes into the fryers is now all gluten free!!
AMAZING GF SUSHI AND TEMPURA!! Everything on the menu except for the chicken karaage and the rib-eye kastu sando is gf! Even their tempura and fryer is gf!! They even make their own gf soy sauce!! Will be coming back!!
The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful about allergies (for me both gluten and dairy). There was only two things on the menu I couldn’t eat and it made me feel so normal ordering almost anything on the menu. All the sauces are house made and gluten free (including the soy sauce on the table). This was some of the best sushi I have ever had and I have eaten a lot of sushi. Great quality fish, lots of options, delicious food, and nice staff!! My new favorite sushi spot! The spicy salmon is buttery and delicious!!
This place was awesome. Everything on the menu was gluten free except for two items. I got tempura for the first time in years and had ponzu sauce and spicy tuna, items I normally have to avoid at sushi restaurants. The staff were knowledgeable and super helpful. They also have a house made gf soy sauce which was so tasty. Highly recommend!
