Stopped for a late lunch. Ordered a salad, fried cod, and onion rings. The ketchup on the table looked like it had been refilled many many times so I asked for some new catch-up from the back. The fish was OK not awesome. The onion rings were quite good. And the salad was also fresh. I decided to order the sticky toffee pudding and enjoyed that as well. All in all a decent meal.
After I explained that I was celiac, the server directed me to the gluten free section of the menu and proceeded to take my order (Halibut & Chips). A different server brought it to the table and when I asked if it was GF, he looked at it and said that it was not. He removed the dish and the chef made a new (GF) order.
The second order was fine but the communication between the serving and cooking teams seems to be lacking.
If you choose to eat here, I would suggest double checking the order when it arrives.
Hobsons Soho location was excellent - we had to have fish & chips in London. They have dedicated fryers, GF onion rings and fries, tons of GF sides, and GF desserts. We all ordered GF - my son and I got the cod bites, he also got onion rings. My husband got the traditional fish & chips and my daughter got grilled haddock. For dessert we got sticky toffee pudding- what a treat to have such a special GF dessert!
Overall Hobson's is a must visit on your trip to London!
Excellent GF Fish, Chips and Onion Rings! One of the highlights of my time in London
Store can be busy at peak times, but they have options for take-out or advance reservations.
Had the cod and chips, plus onion rings to share with my partner, who had the regular (not gf) cod and chips. When the server arrived with our food, she put the plates down, walked away, then came right back and switched our plates around, saying that she mixed them up. This made me very nervous because I was only wondering if it was ok or not. And if the onion rings were truly gf or not. They could be a little more careful with their food. Another restaurant (Zizzi’s) would put gf stickers on their plates to indicate their gf dishes. What a simple solution. Hoping all is ok, so far no tell tale headache/dizziness, early signs of being glutened for me. Otherwise the fish was great.
Great fish and chips. It has been years since I’ve had fish and chips. Definitely worth the short wait.
Service was great - we enjoyed an outdoor table in the evening with a full crowd. My first GF fish and chips in London and it did not disappoint I had read reviews online to learn about it. We had the GF cod fish and chips and splurged on sticky toffee pudding for dessert Everthing was wonderful and I had no fear of being glutened with their dedicated batter and fryer.
Delicious GF fish and chips, very good crispy batter. We could not distinguish it from “normal” batter. Seperate GF fryer, hower, place is not 100% GF (yet, my coeliac daughter didn’t get any symptoms) Very friendly staff. Sauce comes in bottle on the table, we did not dare to use it.
I have been craving authentic fish and chips and haven’t been able to find a place that makes them gluten free! Crispy gluten free batter on the haddock and onion rings. Fish was delicious and cooked perfectly but a little under seasoned. This is great for those who are watching their salt intake. Also had the gluten free sticky toffee bread pudding which was tasty.
Their gluten free fish and chips were great! They had a ton of gf options.
