The dairy free/vegan ice cream is **NOT** celiac-safe!! I haven’t seen it mentioned on the website (or anywhere) but apparently it’s made with a butterfinger oat milk that isn’t gluten free verified so any of the vegan ice cream options are not safe! With that in mind, I ordered a molten cake without the ice cream and they ended up also having to remove two other ingredients because I told them I had an allergy so I ended up paying $15 for a glorified chocolate mug cake. It was good, but not really worth the money :/
Took 8 girls here to celebrate my daughter’s 12YO birthday! My daughter had celiac and is very sensitive. She had the s’mores hot cake (made GF) and had the hot cakes ice cream instead of the Lopez Island ice cream. I appreciated that the employee helping me told me not to have the Lopez Island ice cream because it’s made with oat milk that wasn’t safe for celiacs. I appreciated his knowledge and care. So happy to provide my daughter with this “normal” kid experience which as you know is not easy to do in our society and culture. I had the GF chocolate chip cookie and it was SOOOO good. Thank you Hot Cakes! Capital Hill location.
I was a bit wary after reading some recent reviews from the other location, saying that they got sick and I almost didn't try this place. But I decided to ask some questions though about oats thinking that could be a reason for mixed reviews.
Interestingly, she told me that the gooey brownie flavor hot cake has oats in it! I wonder if that could be why some had a bad experience. I doubt they would be purity protocol oats.
After hearing that the dark decadence cake is made with no oats, and is 100% gf I decided to try it and it was super delicious! I didn't react at all!
So delicious! A lot of their cakes are naturally GF, and some can be made dairy free too.
