I know this is a local favorite but I still have issues. Have eaten here several times. Clearly GF food ( oysters on the half shell, salads) I’ve been fine. But last time had their GF soft shell crab it came. I questioned the coating and they swore up and down it was Gf. Well it wasn’t and I paid the price. I love the setting. But if you go only order goods you can be confident by sight are GF

The outside area has a nice view––inside smells very musty. Good choices for GF on the menu, clearly marked. Our service was very slow. The waiter had a really loud, bark-y voice that made you jump if your back was too him, and he didn't listen to what we said. The GF crab appetizer was tasty but really hard to find any meat on it, and for $18 I expected a little more than about a tablespoon of meat. I couldn't chew the leathery bits but husband did fine with them. We didn't get our meal until 50 minutes after being seated. I ordered a salad with flounder on it, and he asked me what sides I wanted which I thought was odd but I ordered two, prompted by him. When he brought the salad he told me no sides with salad, so I was left hanging. No apology or help. The flounder was delish. Near the end I realized that the dressing was not white balsamic vinaigrette (marked GF) but something else, maybe poppyseed. We had to ask twice for more creamer then he didn't bring it for about 15 mins., when the coffee had cooled to lukewarm. All in all food was good, server was not.

Took a while to get our drinks til a red hair waitress came to help us. It wasn’t even her area but she was fantastic. Some other guy came to our table occasionally and said he was our waiter and was as slow as Xmas. The female waitress took our order and was knowledgeable about what was gf and what wasn’t. I ordered the broiled shrimp with potato salad. The food was just ok but I didn’t have a bad reaction. You go here for the view not the food.

Menu clearly delineated GF options. GF items brought separately from others to avoid cross contamination. Knowledgeable and super accommodating staff. Very tasty!

Went for dinner last night and our server was not very Knowledgeable… and seamed a little annoyed… my salad with super fresh shrimp came out and it was delicious. My entrée came out with stuffed crab mixture on top, and had to send it back….When my broiled grouper finally came, it was well prepared and yummy. Just be carful!! I did not get sick.

Hudson’s is the best. Delicious, safe dinner at a beautiful outdoor dinner on the water. I ordered the blackened scallops with a baked potato and side salad. No issues at all! And to top it off- they have gluten free beer (Redbridge)!

We were pleasantly surprised at the updated menu with all the GF options marked (both on food and beverage menu). They have a gorgeous dockside deck and bar, with Redbridge beer. The food here tastes better to me than i remember from years ago. The boiled shrimp is caught by Hudson's and is the best I've had in a long time.

The freshest seafood and everything on the menu is clearly marked if it is GF or not! Make sure to let the server know if you have celiac/allergy so they can note it on their tablet. Otherwise they default to serving hush puppies (not GF).

They actually do have a gluten-free menu and are very well versed on the need to be gluten-free due to celiac. Our waiter, Grant, was very conscientious about ensuring my safety with respect to what was safe for me to eat. The chef also ensured that all of my items were prepared safely. They had a ton of gf options and the gf bun that my gf fried flounder sandwich was soft and delicious! This was a win win! They even had gf fried pickles!

Love this historic seafood house on the water! Always order the Neptune Platter broiled and substitute more scallops for the fried oysters. A great casual traditional seafood house! No reservations

Amazing experience! Menu clearly labeled. Their catch of the day special caught my eye and our waiter was able to confirm with the chef that it could be made gluten free which was a nice treat.

Probably good if your only allergy is gluten & you don’t want a sandwich or anything from the fryer, but otherwise, be careful. PRO’s: Staff were very nice. They took our drink orders & then brought me an iced tea with the paper straw already in it. I asked the server if the straw had gluten, since another reviewer said that was the case. The server said the paper straws do have gluten, then brought me a new drink & a whole box of safe paper straws so I could read the label & know they were safe. I asked the hostess who would be best to speak with (server/manager) to discuss my allergies to gluten, dairy, soy & potassium sorbate (sorbitol, sorbic acid.) The manager took a photo of the card I carry that lists my allergies & looked up ingredients. I had the spinach salad with shrimp. Judging from my symptoms, I think I got sorbic acid or multiple allergens. Maybe in the salad dressing or the pecans? Side note: They do not have a dedicated fryer & do not offer GF buns.

Our favorite place we ate on the island! They took great precautions in prepping the meal and the crab was amazing. We also learned that the paper straws contain gluten! Our server was very knowledgeable about everything.

This is a great restaurant for seafood lovers. They catch their own shrimp and grouper and harvest their own soft shell crab. I got the shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad (no croutons) and they were both delicious. The shrimp was very fresh. GF items were marked on the menu.

Our waitress was very knowledgeable about options safe for me. She also made sure the kitchen was aware. My salmon/plate was marked so that no one would touch it besides my waitress. She added my baked potato (uncut) and steamed veggies. No separate fryer if wanted something fried.

I had the pan seared scallops and a baked potato. It was good. Not a whole lot of gf options though.
Get there early. They share a parking lot with another restaurant and it’s crazy. We got there at 5:30 on a Thursday and had to wait an hour.

We have eaten lunch and dinner here. The staff both times has been very attentive and concerned about my health. The meals were absolutely delicious and safe. Highly recommended!! (Shrimp was scrumptious 😋)

Okay food but great service!! Wouldn’t necessarily come back to, but good overall. Cool atmosphere, good for families. Got the scallop dinner with a potato and veggies. Didn’t get sick. They do everything from scratch and are not shy to accommodate allergies - even states on the menu.
I have no idea why some reviews just a week and two ago said they had GF fried fish and french fries because you CANNOT get that. They were very knowledgeable and it’s def safe and great views of the water but menu is limited to basically pan seared fish, baked potato and broccoli. Also beware apparently their paper straws have gluten (I had no idea that was even possible) so you have to use their corn ones (they look plastic but made from corn). I was so happy my server told me that because I never would’ve thought to ask about the straws.

Very good with GF and DF. I had fried fish and shrimp and own seared scallops. Delicious.
Soo good! Service was excellent very knowledgeable and they even have a separate fryer for fries. I was thrilled, absolutely going back again and again!

Wonderful food and knowledgeable staff! Lots of GF options so finding something to eat wasn’t difficult at all.
The menu is very accommodating to gluten free options & they were accommodating to making gf margaritas for me (I’ve learned the hard way mixers are not safe). The server was very knowledgeable & even when I questioned the food runner reassured me it was gf. It was so fresh & delicious & I did not get sick! I’ve learned I’m very sensitive so this was a relief.

Fantastic place to eat!! My wife has Gluten and many other good allergies. She did great here!!! They have plenty of GF items on the menu and our service was very knowledgeable as to what she could and couldn't eat!
This was a very organized restaurant. Our food came out promptly and great service. Menu labelled with GF options. Server suggested getting scallops an seared instead of broiled. Delicious! Sides limited to baked potato, veggies, coleslaw. Went walking along the dock after dinner.

My husband and I spent the weekend on Hilton Head Island and being gluten, dairy, and soy free, I wasn't sure if I could really eat out. After looking through this site for possibilities, we decided to try Hudson's for lunch. It was fantastic! The waiter wasn't bothered a bit by my allergies and helped me with ways to make the marked gluten free options on the menu also dairy and soy free. It was all so delicious! We liked the food so much that we went back for lunch the next day. Our waiter from the previous day alerted our new waitress of my allergies before I even told her and she also helped me choose options that were delicious and safe. The wait staff is amazingly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Don't miss this treat!

My kids both got sick after order grilled fish from the kids' menu. The normal kids' menu does NOT have gluten-free options. So we asked them to grill their fish instead of fry it. Both kids were throwing up all night. This place does so much volume, I now question the quality.
I was also disappointed with the adult menu GF options. It is simply a grilled version of the fried fish on the menu (with broccoli for a side). We also got there at 5:30 and had a 45 minute wait. The wait only gets longer after 5:30. We did NOT have a good experience.

Fresh seafood on the water overlooking fishing boats, family friendly. Out waiter was not terribly knowledgeable about GF, but he checked on everything and the kitchen did its job. No GF bread, pasta, hush puppies, or dessert. My son had a great steak as well.

Excellent!!!
Knowledgeable/friendly staff. Very helpful. The food was absolutely amazing. They could make most anything on the menu GF.
Shawn was a tremendous help and very knowledgable of glutin free issues
Wonderful selection. Waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful.
