I was so impressed when I called and the hostess immediately knew what their policy and options were. Most of the menu can be prepared gluten free in the back, and I was told tableside service could be arranged with reservations. Food was excellently prepared, the best part of the experience actually, and the staff was very kind. I am not Celiac, so I will leave that judgement to another user.
Based on other reviews, I thought this would be a safe restaurant since I have celiac. The waiter immediately know what it meant when I said I needed gluten free food, and recommended substitutions for certain aspects of meals. I was very pleased with the service and the food. However, about an hour or so later, I was horribly sick in the way only gluten can bring about. I guess somewhere something got cross-contaminated. I won’t be risking eating at Ichiban again.
A decent amount of the sushi is gluten free - I was able to check with the waiter to make sure they didn't use any tempura or soy sauce in mine and they were very accommodating. There is also Thai food (curry, rice noodles) which is probably gluten free but I didn't ask about it. No gluten free menu. The sushi was amazing.
although sometimes its hard to communicate with some of the servers that are Japanese, they do understand and have gluten free soy sauce in the back. they Cook in a seperate area in the back and I haven't gotten sick. I also know another celiac who recommended this place. the shrimp or yum yum sauce is gluten free. the steak sauce is not.
