Manager quickly understood and accommodated my need, although called it an "allergy". I had the bacon crusted chicken, with cheese sauce instead of hollendaisse and no garlic bread.
Went for lunch. Enjoyed a grilled chicken salad with oranges and an orange kiwi dressing sans pecans. The waiter believed the salad was gluten free but double checked for me. They had to omit the pecans because on the packaging it mention that they “may contain wheat”.
We love breakfast out, but we were disappointed that eggs at this location were not GF. When asked if the eggs could be made separately, we were told "no". We switched to fried eggs, and didn't have an issue. Staff would benefit from training in this area.
Ihop does have an allergy list on their website. Following this, I ordered hash browns, fruit, and bacon. Our server,Dakota, was very knowledgeable and super friendly. I asked if they could Clean the grill to accommodate my wheat/gluten issues. No stomach issues so far.
I used to love going to IHOP, and then I had to stop eating gluten. They do have a limited number of items, but our server was amazing! I highly recommend Willow. He answered our questions, and any he didn't know, he looked until he found an answer for us. I got a very tasty scramble with potatoes, and it has not bothered me in the least. I highly recommend this location, and I especially recommend this server! I have put no for Celiac friendly because I think they are because of my experience, however I have not seen anything official, and I have heard that with this chain it can vary from location to location. They have a very thorough allergy menu, and if you have a great server, you will likely have a great experience.
This one was tricky. No gf menu...they had NO understanding of what I needed...in fact our waitress said no at first like they wouldn't do it. Had to give them step by step directions, but it turned out okay. Didn't get sick at all. Remember to order shelled eggs as they put pancake batter in their eggs to make them fluffy!
We are here a week ago and felt bad because our son had to sit here and watch us eat. We explained to the waitress why he wasn't eating & we would have to get him something to eat somewhere else. Next thing we know the manager, Irwin was at our table with a binder with allergy info. He offered to personally ensure the kitchen staff prepared his food safely. Our son had the 2X2X2 and the manager swapped out the 2 pancakes for hash browns. He said they use a clean separate pan for the eggs and they had a dedicated area for meats which all were GF. The omelette ARE NOT safe because IHOP uses pancake batter in the eggs to make the omelette fluffier. Our son had 2 sausage links, scrambled eggs and hash browns. Didn't get sick. 2nd experience was ok...the greeter spoke almost no English and when we asked for a gf or allergy menu she started to give our 17y/o a kids coloring page! waitress was not familiar but did listen. Was a bit nervous but he didn't get sick. Irwin is awesome so we may call ahead to see if he's on duty when we return!
My waitress Tiffany is very good about understanding the gluten free struggle and is willing to make substitutions of gluten free options in place of pancakes, etc. I enjoy the steak tips with mushrooms and onions and the eggs and grits in place of the pancakes.
Although this isn't my first choice for breakfast places, it worked out. Only thing open on an early morning passing through Harrisonburg. The manager was not in yet, but the assistant manager was happy to assist me. The hostess had no clue what gf was so I was glad when she said she'd grab the manager. The assistant manager was happy to have the kitchen staff clean off the flat top griddle so help eliminate (of course not completely) cross contamination. He actually suggested that before I could! He said they would use fresh shelled eggs instead of their premixed scrambled eggs for any dish I wanted. I ended up getting a spinach, mushroom, avocado omelette, with NO sauce, and a side of fruit. The other breakfast sides are NOT gf. My mom who is also gf ordered an omelette as well. I took my meal to-go. Everything tasted great, staff was polite and attentive and we did not get sick! In a pinch I would recommend this place, but really not a go-to option, which is reasoning for only 4/5 stars.
Chicken fajita omelette, ask for country fresh eggs and have it made in a separate pan. Our waitress told the chef personally what I needed. The omelette was delicious! I am very sensitive to small amounts of gluten and did not get sick after eating there 2 days in a row.
One of the managers (Joan) has Celiac too, and she went into the kitchen herself to prepare my food. I got an omelette with pepper jack cheese, fruit on the side. The waitress (Wanda) was phenomenal, and told me I could probably request "country eggs" (which means straight from the shell) at any IHOP location as a substitute for the standard pre-mixed egg batter stuff, and as long as they clean your section of the grill before cooking, it should be safe. I was coming back from a weekend with folks who didn't understand the severity of the issue, so I was already experiencing symptoms beforehand, but given how on-the-ball everyone was, I believe this location is safe.
One of the mangers (or owners?) of this location has Celiac's. The manager on duty and wait staff was very knowledgeable they reassures me they would clean the grill and try to keep things as separated as possible. They will also make plain eggs for you without the pancake batter, making them gf so you can order any of the omelets. I had no reaction. I will definitely go back.
One week ago I visited the Atascocita I-Hop the young man that waited on me said there was no gluten-free and walked away. He came back and asked if I was ready to order. Yes I did order from the senior menu and said to myself I will not be back. The waiter I had did not care about customer service nor if I would come back. This was a very SAD experience.
They took my allergy seriously and cooked my omelet in a separate clean pan. I was able to substitute the pancakes for fruit. ( their gluten free menu showed gluten in almost all items because of adding pancake batter to most everything, even omelets! However, they were great about making my omelet with fresh cracked eggs!!!)Highly recommend!!!
IHOP has an up to date allergen menu. They make their omelets with a mixture of eggs and pancake batter (ridiculous!) so if you want an omelet you have to ask for it to be made with shell eggs. This location is much more upscale than any of the others I've ever visited. It's only a few years old and the wait staff bend over backwards to give you good service. My husband and I go there 1-2 times a month for dinner because :I have choices, it's inexpensive, it's clean, it's quiet, it's good service. I would caution that you make sure the items you order are gluten free since the wait staff changes regularly and may not know what gluten is.
I tried our local IHOP today and will likely not be going back simply because they don't offer much of anything that is gluten-free. The staff was very kind when I explained my gluten allergy, and didn't mind me asking to have staff clean prep areas, change gloves, etc.I asked to speak to the manager before ordering to make sure my food would be cooked properly. Although he was very kind, it was obvious he didn't know what gluten was,or the items it was in. IHOP does not offer a gluten-free menu, but they do give you an allergy guide to read over before ordering. The only things safe for breakfast on their menu were eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit. When I ordered, I made sure they would clean the prep areas and all before handling my food, and asked then to leave out any flour or mix from my eggs, as I wanted egg whites only and wanted to make sure they were gluten-free. When they brought out my food, they messed up my order and gave me regular eggs instead of only whites (not a big deal). They changed it and brought out fresh eggs for me. The bacon and eggs were good, but the fruit was old and not good. Based on the lack of menu options, I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. The staff was kind, but not knowledgable when it came to food allergies. The items I ordered didn't make me sick.
