One of my go to restaurants. Love that they have fried items like spring rolls that are hard to find GF elsewhere. Completely safe kitchen, dedicated except for a few baked things in the front case and some drinks. The food is very mild, definitely request a bit of spice otherwise it can taste bland.
Tons of choices for celiac! Alomst the whole menu.(Which is huge) Is gluten free! They understand what celiac is so just tell them as there are few side sauces etc that have gluten.
Had a delicious lunch and order so many things because I was only in town for a day and needed to try things. Got the coconut shrimp, salt and pepper squid and fat noodles all gf! He even brought me some gluten free soy sauce and a sesame ball since I took more than half back to the hotel for dinner. Had no tummy troubles and 2 meals!
Favorite spot. Amazing food. They have a few things that set them apart for gluten free, namely the fried foods are gluten free including spring rolls and they have a number of pastries too. So this is the place you can go to live out your fantasies of fried spring rolls, big cookies, etc. My favorite is the grilled pork vermicelli salad with fried spring rolls in it.
Jade Bistro is one of our local favorites. Their Thai tea is on point - which is important. Every dish I’ve ordered from here has been delicious. My favorites are the Sesame Beef/Heavenly Beef and the Pad Khing Pork Belly. They have sooo many gluten free options to choose from, some of the pastries are even gluten free, I love the lavender macarons! The staff is always very friendly. The restaurant is always clean and we like the atmosphere. The patio in the spring/summer/fall is really nice. I highly recommend Jade Bistro and Teahouse!
During our meal (ok, to be honest twice while we were perusing the menu) I kept saying, "how did we not know about this place?!"
Dedicated Fryer gets big snaps ***
I had the egg rolls and Udon soup with house made GF noodles. The portions are generous and the ingredients taste fresh. The 'udon' noodles are more like rice noodles, but they were chewy and comforting and so so good. The fresh thai basil and cilantro that came with everything made it extra good.
I believe our server told us there was very little in the place that even had gluten in it and they keep things separate. This is not one of those 'this and that can be MADE gluten free' places- things just ARE gluten free. This is a gem in Sellwood, or Portland for that matter!
I cannot say enough about how this place made me feel safe and that what I was requesting was a run of the mill dietary request. I just LOVED it. The variety of the food was awesome, and I got prompt responses when I questioned if something was GF or not. My entire family requested to eat here multiple times on our 1 week trip - I am the only celiac. The GF sesame balls and fresh wide noodles - amazing.
I am so bummed that I have to give this place a bad rating. The food is amazing but unfortunately I have tried eating here a few times and I have had a bad reaction every time. I have celiac and I can't keep trying. Some of the items that are listed GF are actually not for sure GF. I was getting the egg rolls every time I went as they are labeled GF and I kept wondering why I wasn't feeling well after eating them. Last time we went, the manager told me they aren't sure if the oyster sauce in the egg rolls are gluten free and that it wasn't safe for me to eat if I am celiac. WHY would you label it that way if you aren't sure??? So I ended up eating the wide rice noodles and STILL got sick! I wonder if there is a questionable ingredient in those as well??? So disappointing.
Amazing food! Never a reaction. Can get crazy busy. Lots of options, even desserts.
Owned by a celiac. Great items on menu. Long lines on weekends.
We heard about this place from the ladies at Crave Bake Shop and were not disappointed!
Jade has a ton of gluten free options and some of the employees are (or are related to) celiacs so they know how careful they need to be.
The food is amazing!!
Amazing flavors, friendly staff but sadly it has not been a safe eating experience. I have tried eating there a number of times and have experienced mild to severe glutening symptoms during/after about 50% of our visits. I finally had to give up. No matter how tasty the food is, it just wasn't worth it. There are several other restaurants in Portland that we eat at regularly and safely.
