NOT CELIAC SAFE! I called ahead and spoke to someone who told me they had GF pancakes and other items on their menu. When I arrived, I asked my server what items could be made GF. He told me they had GF pancakes. I asked if they were cooked on the same surface as the regular pancakes and he said he would check. The manager came over and informed me the GF pancakes are cooked on the same surface. I asked if it would be possible to get the pancakes cooked in a separate pan so I wouldn’t risk cross contamination for my order AND SHE AGREED to this. She said, ‘No problem. We can do that.’ So I placed my order.

When it arrived, the server that handed me my food and stated they were my GF pancakes. My waiter made a point to tell me my order was prepared as the Mgr and I had discussed. I felt confident to eat the pancakes as I felt the necessary precautions were taken. I even noticed how the top of pancake separated from bottom, a sign I have learned that the pancakes are made w GF batter. I had eaten about a third of the pancakes when the manager approached me and said, ‘We cleaned the surface to make your pancakes and I watched them do it, but the high heat from the surface kills the gluten so they are safe.’ WHAT??? (Also, that is not true about high heat!) I asked about the separate pan she said they would cook on. She stated it would take too long to cook them that way and she didn’t want me to wait. So instead SHE made the decision to prepare them a way I knew I would get sick from and didn’t inform me. She even stated she is allergic to shellfish so she ‘gets it.’

I would have ordered something else or not ordered at all. I can’t believe she had them served to me without letting me know about how they were prepared, which was different from what we discussed! I’m so upset.

As expected, I am sick now. Less than an hour after eating less than one pancake and this has come on strong. Once glutened I typically have the different symptoms for months. I’m writing this lengthy review to protect other sensitive celiacs. There are other safe options locally.
