Delicious. They had 6 GF flavors available (3 normal & 3 cake-type). We tried the 3 normal donuts because most GF donuts we’ve had have all been cake donuts. All 3 were light and delicious - we had chocolate, brown butter/sea salt, and cinnamon. The workers are aware of cross-contamination which was encouraging.
Having celiac, I rarely eat donuts, but this is far and away the best GF donut I could imagine having. We’ve been twice in the past 3 weeks and will likely be frequent visitors every time we’re in SJC.
my husband and I came here twice during our stay in Southern California. We are absolutely so impressed with the delicious taste of the gluten-free doughnuts. My favorite was the vanilla one with the rainbow sprinkles and then the brown sugar glaze (I think it was called that). My husband has celiac’s disease and he is symptomatic, so we are always very careful about where we eat. these donuts were handcrafted so delicious and they are on a separate baking sheet / separate display and it seems like the staff is very very cautious about gluten-free/Celiac dietary restrictions!! the owners are very nice. I would give the taste of the donuts a five out of five. They were so delicious!!!
The staff is amazingly friendly here. We were lucky enough to meet and get served by the owner as well. He shared that the GF donuts are fried in a separate fryer and handled with separate utensils and trays. Kitchen surfaces are thoroughly cleaned between gluten and GF baking, as well. They offer both dairy-containing and vegan GF donuts.
When I mentioned my need to avoid gluten, he said “that’s why we’re here—for people like you.” I got the impression that helping the food allergy community was personally meaningful to him. It was nice to feel so welcomed.
I went with the dairy donuts. They were dense, cakey, and very enjoyable.
Can’t say enough good things. By FAR the best gf donuts I’ve ever had. Not dense and cake like as many others are. My sisters and I are all celiac and get donuts from them often with no issues. Staff is so kind and are aware of cross contamination and allergies. If you find yourself anywhere near Orange County you have to stop in!!
If you were to ask me what I miss about being gluten free, donuts would not normally be on that list. But these donuts. WOW. I am a huge fan. We drove through from San Diego on our way to Laguna and stopped on a whim. And we have been back once and are planning another trip just to try new flavors. I might even say the GF-vegan are almost better than the GF. Big and dense yet so moist. They are heavy! And they keep surprisingly well. I bought two last time and had one the next day, and it was just as good. They have two flavors of GF each month with four different frosting varieties and one different GF-vegan flavor with two different frosting offerings. I can't stop thinking or talking about these donuts. I am not celiac so I don't know anything about the safety but their staff is knowledgable and I'm sure they can answer all your questions. They are also a nut free facility.
This place is beyond good and friendly too! The energy was inviting and the atmosphere warm. We were served by one of the owners and he was as nice a person I have met in sometime. The GF options were perfect and 100% satisfying. I was given a freshly fried, warmed brown butter and sea salt doughnut out the gate. By far the best GF doughnut I have ever had since my diagnosis 8 years ago. I will return for more on my way back home :)
We arrived an hour before closing and had 3 of the original gf choices to select. I got a boysenberry since the reviews had been so good. It was excellent. Great flavored icing and crunchy on the outside good texture inside and I have a cinnamon donut for tomorrow’s breakfast. Chocolate was sold out.
I really liked the atmosphere of the donut and coffee shop. Music was on, employees were happy and hustling. There were a lot of regular donuts and a few trays of gluten free (labeled gluten friendly) due to being made separate area, utensils but same kitchen space. After reading about this place, I went for it! The gf donuts were fantastic! They were flavorful and not all sugary! They were thick but not spongy! They really were good. I will go back!
Delicious cake donuts and a fantastic selection of both GF and vegan options. They are labeled "gluten friendly" because it is not a dedicated bakery and flour can sometimes travel through the air, but they use a dedicated fryer, utensils, and surfaces to prevent cross contamination. My daughter is extremely sensitive to CC and had no reaction.
The BEST GF donuts on the planet! We were in SoCal visiting friends and we are so glad to have found JD Flannel Donuts. There aren't a ton of GF choices but we tried them all and they we EXQUISITE!!!! They are soft! We got a chance to speak with the owner who was just a delight to speak with. Loved the GF donuts so much that we made a special trip to get more before going to LAX. Truly THE BEST GF donuts on the planet! Can't wait to come back for more the next time we are in SoCal.
Excellent experience!!! Staff was warm and welcoming! Excellent GF donuts! Great flavor and texture. The GF Vegan donuts were also great!
Excellent donuts and service. I absolutely love the folks who own and work at JD Flannels! They are very safe for my wife with their dedicated kitchen space and fryer. So much thanks to the JD Flannel family for giving my wife a piece of breaded epicness! Safe for all y'all out there with celiac and would absolutely recommend!!!!
🤤🤤🤤 what a find! This place is incredible!! I was a little concerned about getting donuts from a place that is not entirely gf, but JD Flannel knows what's up.
Taste notes: It had been so long since I have been able to eat what seems like a genuine donut. Most gf donuts are dense and baked, but these scratch made, fried donuts were incredible. I tried to crumb cake, chocolate old fashioned, and maple old fashioned. I also got a vanilla iced latte, which was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Being a chocolate lover, the chocolate donut was probably my favorite. The maple flavoring was very slight, and the crumb cake seemed to remind me a lot of spice cake. All were still warm when I ate them and delicious.
Cross contamination notes: The person helping me was very patient and answered all of my questions. Their website says that the dough is prepared in a separate area and fried in a separate fryer, but I asked anyways and the employee confirmed.
The gluten free donuts are on the top rack and placed on separate baking sheets from the rest, they also have a separate pair of tongs specifically for those donuts which are stored separately from the tongs for the regular donuts.
The biggest risk of cross contamination I saw was when the donuts were being packaged. I would recommend asking the person helping you if they can wash their hands and change their gloves to avoid any gluteney crumbs being transfered to your containers.
