Wish I could say how their sandwiches are, but since they were out of GF bread, I have no idea. I got a cursory “sorry ‘bout that”. My husband would have preferred Subway and it would have been less expensive.
I was very impressed! The GF bread was kept separately, and when I ordered my food they cleaned down the meat slicer and counters, got out a new knife, and were sure to keep my GF bread on a clean piece of paper so it didn’t get contaminated. Even better, they didn’t use the communal jar of mayo, instead bringing out a separate, squeezable container of mayo so I wouldn’t get contamination that way. All without stressing how bad my reactions are! I was very impressed that this was basic protocol for GF! Obviously it takes a bit longer to get your sub because of the cleaning, but it is 100% worth it to feel safe. I am very sensitive and have eaten here twice so far with zero issues!
They offer gluten free bread, but it's not good. It has a sandy texture. When I picked up my order, the two employees were whispering to each other their confusion about whether the sandwich had been prepared properly as far as avoiding cross-contamination.
My husband and I are both gluten free. We were stoked to see that Jersey Mike's was partnering with Udi's and excited to be able to grab a quick sandwich out again! We have been to Jersey Mike's twice since they rolled out their new gluten free sandwich and the sandwich itself is pretty good. Basically what I remember a quick sub out being before I knew I couldn't eat gluten. Nothing gourmet, but quick and semi-healthy. The problem is really with the staff making it. Maybe other locations would be better, but the Woodbridge location will not be getting more of our business. The first time we went the staff wasn't friendly, but they took the precautions I expected- changing gloves, washing down the deli slicer, using mayo from the fridge in a squeeze bottle instead of the bin with the spreader, making our sandwiches on paper, then wrapping the sandwich in new paper. However, the second time when we asked for our sandwiches on gluten free the woman huffed and said, "well it's really a whole rigamarole." After we didn't say, "oh well, then I guess we will leave," she reluctantly started cleaning the slicer. Apparently she still wasn't sold on having to work so she added, "you know, it's $3 more for gluten free." Apparently she expected that the $3 would deter us from having an allergy :( In addition to this we got to witness the staff (of which their are many despite the fact that only one person seems to work at any given time) fighting with another customer who complained that the soda fountain was not dispensing soda. They refused to check the machine for her and then just ignored her till she left.
Staff very knowledgeable about gluten free options for the sandwiches. I told him I was gluten free and tried to order chicken parm sandwich and he said that the chicken wasn’t gluten free. They use a separate knife with blue handle to cut gluten free sandwiches. My first time here and will make this a regular for me!
I can never thank Jersey Mike’s enough - for the first time since being diagnosed with Celiac I got to have a sandwich! I watched as they wiped everything down, swap the lettuce, mayo, etc for fresh and use a brand new knife to cut my sandwich. I feel confident that I won’t be glutened and I am so so grateful... and the sandwich was delicious!
We have travelled and all Jersey Mikes on the East Coast have done a great job of providing a safe food environment and delicious rolls. However, twice in Maryland we have encountered “sorry, no gf rolls today”. Not sure why it’s different, but very frustrating. Both the Laurel and the Crofton store gave us the same response. Sad, but I plan to notify the company. Lesson learned: Call ahead to be sure they have gluten free rolls
Meats are GF. Employees were clearly trained to change into new gloves before unwrapping GF bread, and laid down fresh parchment paper to prepare the sub. Everything was prepared right in front of us and there was minimized risk of cross contamination. As with any restaurant that also prepares meals with gluten containing ingredients, there is always some risk, but I find that mentioning your concerns to servers and chefs helps best. One of our subs was made the incorrect size, but they fixed the order immediately. The Udis sub rolls were much better than I expected. Overall a very good experience and great to finally be able to get GF subs!
Staff were wonderfully helpful and accommodating. They made me feel safe. Cleaned the entire station, washed their hands and forearms, changed their gloves and let the line know there was a gf sub coming. The bread is soft and closest to the hoagie I’ve been missing!
The staff knew to change gloves and put out new covering for the area they made the subs on. They even knew to use the squeeze bottle of mayo instead of the container with the knife without us asking. Looks like they were well trained.
This has been my 2nd jersey mikes this month!! I got the GF bread, ham, provalone cheese, lettuce, onion, and red wine vinager, oil and banana peppers. The bread is a little dry but if you get the oil and vinager it makes it less dry. But from other GF breads I've tried from restaurants its in the top 5! The employees are very nice! They told me that there is ONLY ONE PERSON who speciallizes in preparing GF subs! They change their gloves plus the bread is in plastic packaging and they use a different knife and prep it on paper instead of where they prep wheat subs. I LOVE Jersey Mikes it is SO GOOD!!!! I HIGHLY recommend Jersey Mikes Subs!!!
Great experience! They have Udi’s GF sub roll available everywhere now. When we ordered, they immediately cleaned all appliances, the counter, grabbed clean tools and changed gloves! They also put our sandwiches on a clean sheet of paper to go down the line as an extra precaution. Very excited for this new option and great sandwiches!
I was visiting my daughter in Charlotte this past weekend and we needed a quick bite to eat. We decided to try JM's new GF subs. I was so impressed with the service at this location (the two women working there were awesome)! As soon as I asked for GF they asked if it was for a medical reason which I replied yes. They then made my sandwich in a totally dedicated area! I will be back to this location when visiting Charlotte!
The staff seems to be fully trained and very knowledgeable on precautions when making a gluten free sub. They entire meat cutter and counter is wiped down before they begin, and the dirty knife is put away. All employees on the counter line change gloves and a clean sheet of paper is laid down. Gluten free rolls are individually sealed and meat is freshly cut. They even have a separate squeeze bottle for mayo stored in the fridge as to not use the contaminated mayo kept on the counter. Very pleased with their service and the subs are delicious! We will be back again and again!
I have celiac. I ate there 3 times last week when I found out about the sub rolls they have. No problems at all!! So happy!! So good!!!
Impressed with how conscientious staff is here. Jersey Mike’s is doing celiac friendly gluten free right. A previous reviewer detailed the good process they have but singed this location out for not being celiac friendly because they pulled toppings from shared tubs. Fair enough but they will get toppings for fresh unused bins if you ask them to, which I do.
They are awesome! They take everything very seriously: change gloves, fresh knives, clean everything down, double paper, clearly mark the GF item. If you order ahead online, it helps the process go faster so you don’t have to wait so long while they clean everything and so they can organize everyone else’s order around the GF order. If you’re Celiac, make a note that you’re Celiac so they know to be extra careful to use the condiments that aren’t contaminated (apparently, their regular mayonnaise contains gluten).
Care is taken and it shows that they have a standardized training. From start to finish the employee never stopped making my sandwich so it was done properly. He cleaned the slicer, changed gloves, and used a tray with a gluten free designated knife. They even had special gluten free labelled condiments. The only thing that would have made me feel even more confident about it is if they had gone to the back for fresh veggie toppings. I didn't get sick though and I'm a very sensitive celiac.
Went to try Jersey Mike’s for lunch today with my daughter and were very happy to find a great gluten free sandwich. We both have Celiac and felt great. They used a separate knife to cut the bread and were careful to make sure the counter was clean before making the sandwiches...we will return.
I’m voting this as celiac friendly - however, I had to double check that all of the ingredients were safe for me and through conversation was able to figure out that some things (such as bacon) weren’t guaranteed not to have cross contamination because at that time of day they didn’t have extra other that what they’d been using with the regular sandwiches. But other things were fine (such as veggies from the back). They do go to the back to make the sandwich and use a clean knife and seem to have been taught some precautions, but make sure to ask questions and maybe go at a time it’s not super busy if possible. The bread is made by Udi’s and is a really big sub sandwich, which is nice.
The gluten free bread was really good. They told me it’d be an extra minute before they could start my sandwich because they had to wipe down the area. I was impressed by that. They didn’t put mayo on both times I went there and I’m assuming it’s because they spread it on. I was very impressed. Ordered it Mike’s way and the sauce (some type of vinegar) made it not dry.
I went to this Jersey Mikes on Saturday 1/13/18. They were SO courteous & understanding of my GF needs due to being celiac. They scrubbed the meat slicer, made my sandwich on paper, toppings came from a separate cooler. Due to the time they take to try to create a GF experience, I would recommend going during non-busy times. Personally I feel bad making other people wait because of my needs, especially if it’s a busy lunch time etc.
