Some staff are knowledgable but the cook doesn’t care one bit. He used the dedicated GF knife for my bread but then once everything was cooked, he carelessly switched over to the regular knife to cut the sandwich into 4 parts. When I told him I couldn’t eat it, he got very offended and the other staff members wouldn’t even look at me. He redid the sandwich and then the same problem occurred. He recognized his error and unhappily made the next sandwich the right way. Unfortunately I still got sick anyway. I’ve heard other locations are great but this one definitely isn’t. Training probably wouldn’t help as I just don’t think they care that much about what they are doing.
Great experience. My meats were cut and sandwich was assembled in the back, away from the main prep area. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the lettuce and tomato came from main prep area, though he did “dig deep” to get veggies near the bottom, so less chance of contamination. Overall, great sandwich, and I did not get glutened.
This specific restaurant was TERRIBLE in making sure not to CC my sub. They did not change their gloves, did not clean the the counters, did not clean their machines for my meal. It was a hot mess trying to make sure things were done correctly. At one point, I actually watched them put their GF bread on the counter. Would not recommend this specific store but I do still love my store back in Fresno.
I have been disappointed by sub places that promise gluten free buns, but don't deliver. Yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised by Jersey Mike's. The staff was knowledgeable about gluten free preparation. Instructions were posted in the prep area and were followed. The staff was clearly well trained. And they produced a good sub. We will be back
While they have GR bread, I would not recommend this location to someone with Celiac. Went twice and both times staff are not well informed about safety procedures and don’t really understand cross-contamination issues. They were happy to work with me but I had to explain a lot of things. They had to redo one half of the sandwich as they put avocado from the main container using same utensils. I’ve been to another location where they properly assemble the entire sandwich in the back.
They have Udi’s gluten free sub buns! They also prepare the food in a separate area to avoid cross contamination. When I was checking out, I saw on the wall that they had an entire gluten free preparation chart showing what they can and can’t do. Super informed staff! I loved my sub and the best part was I didn’t get sick!
The staff was very understanding when I told them I had celiac. They changed their gloves and wiped everything down including the meat slicer and changing out the lettuce and using a different mayonnaise. They kept my bread on paper to make sure it didn’t get cross contaminated and made sure one person prepared my whole sandwich. They did this all during a rush and made sure my sandwich was safe for me to eat. As a person newly diagnosed with celiac I really appreciated coming here and them being so patient and understanding.
They mixed up our order and gave our 2 celiacs regular bread. One bite and my daughter knew but it was too late. She was very sick within hours. Emailed the store telling them what happened and suggesting they somehow mark the gf sandwiches. They never bothered to answer.
I have been here once when I was in town for a work thing and needed a quick lunch nearby. Staff has procedure to wipe down meat slicer, use separate work area for a GF order, bread is opened from a sealed package, and only one person works on your order. I felt safe eating it and didn’t react afterwards. The wipe down of the meat slicer didn’t seem very thorough though and I’m not sure if they use some sort of food safe disinfectant or just a wet rag, but I’m not sure how clean you can really get shared equipment anyhow. I might eat here again, but it certainly wouldn’t be my first choice in Mankato.
The food prep people were very careful to clean the prep area before making my sandwich. The food was good. The staff was knowledgeable. Edit: a visit today showed less than careful prep,especially with the grill. I think if you insist they be careful and watch everything the do, you might be OK. I won’t return. I’m quite disappointed.
Staff was very helpful assisting with gluten free menu options. The gluten free sub roll tasted very good and had good texture, had the #5 Super Sub. They were very attentive to use separate mayonnaise dispenser instead of the mayo spread on the line to avoid cross contamination. Very friendly staff.
I eat here on nearly a weekly basis. When you order a GF sub they take the time to wipe down the sliver and counter, and they use separate condiments for your sub. I’ve found them to be very friendly and accommodating, and the food is good!
GF subs on Udis rolls. They wash hands, change gloves, clean the grill and prep the GF sandwiches in a separate are. They are very careful to avoid cross contamination so it may take a little longer to get your food than normal, especially if there is also a gluten sandwich in your order but we don't mind. We want them to take all the time they need to make it safe to eat. We have eaten here three times in the last couple of weeks and my daughter has not gotten sick.
I like Jersey Mike’s as they can accommodate gf. While this location tried, and they did a good job, the staff wasn’t that friendly. That’s the only reason I gave it one star. They did try to thoroughly wipe the sliced down but there were still crumbs on it.
Staff was really nice about GF request, but not everyone was trained on the allergy procedure. I watched them cut the GF bun for a previous order, then place the other half on the counter (that was full of regular crumbs and had not been wiped(, then put it back in the bag for the next person. I requested a bun from an unopened bag and did not get sick. Be alert and ready to educate.
Great experience at Jersey Mike’s. Not only can you have a sub in a tub but they also have the gluten free bread. The lady that took my order for my gluten free sub stopped, changed gloves, then told the person behind me that she would complete my whole sub first. I felt like that was above and beyond!
Staff is knowledgeable and have posted specific procedures for staff to follow when someone is ordering gluten free. (Glove change, prepping surface, etc). Was in Heaven when I finally was able to indulge in a Philly cheesesteak again with their gluten free bread
Knowledgeable staff, wife variety on the gf menu. Staff will ask if gluten free is due to preference or allergy. They clean the prep area, meat slicer, etc. for your order. Beware, mayo comes from a communal prep tub. I've eaten here twice without getting sick.
Jersey Mikes now offers gluten free bread. Whenever I have eaten at any location, the staff respond very seriously when I tell them I need the gluten free bread. They immediately change gloves, wipe down the slicing machine and all counters. They put my sandwich on its own paper, which they use to move it from station to station. A separate knife is used, and every worker changes gloves if they are working on my sandwich. I never have to request this. The workers do this automatically and without issue. I am not celiac but do have gluten/dairy sensitivities. I do not eat any gluten whatsoever.
Horrible experience. When I ordered a gf sub, the employee was extremely rude. He made rude comments about me to other employees, and acted as though it was the end of the world because he had to change gloves. He didn’t even clean the machine all the way as other locations do. In my opinion, if you are going to offer gluten free subs (and charge extra), you should make customers feel as though they are less of a person for their selection of a gf sub.
