The staff was helpful with food allergies. It was great to eat in a restaurant with a totally gluten free kitchen. The waiter was knowledgeable about the food. I had waffles, eggs and fruit. My husband had waffles, fried chicken. Our meals were very large portions. The best waffles I have ever eaten!
We drove half an hour to try this restaurant out after following their Facebook page and drooling over their food pics for months and months. I’m happy to say, it was worth the drive! I was giddy with excitement for my daughter and niece who have celiac disease knowing they could pick ANYTHING they wanted off of the menu. We had a party of 13 and EVERYONE loved their food! All of the staff was super friendly and accommodating. We will definitely be back for their delectable pastries and their amazing food!
Taken my celiac son here 3 times in the past 6 months. Two out of three times he was glutened. Staff has been rude and service slow every time we eat here. Food was bland unless you want it spicy. Personally, I like good, tasty food that doesn’t require five-alarm chili peppers. Lots of great options in the neighborhood that have better service, better food, and reliably gluten-free. Won’t be back to Jewels, ever. Edited to add: Talked to a friend who is celiac that has also been glutened there. Very disappointing. Edited to add: reading other reviews, I think the abundant use of oat flour is the source of the gluten exposure. Studies are showing there really is no such thing as truly GF oats due to cc in processing. Certified GF only means there’s less than 20 ppm, not zero. So even if they are using certified GF oat flour, that does not mean there’s zero gluten. Celiacs beware!
I love this place the food is amazing. However I wass wondering why every time I ate here I get sick;( Im so sad to find out today they use oats in everything and oats also make me sick. Lucky for some they are certified gf oats but for me I cant eat here anymore, unfortunately cross contamination is an issue for me;(
Amazing. Dedicated GF and very inventive (brunch-themed) menu. Good selection of baked treats with excellent texture. Great service and good pricing. Most items are spicy, however. Was fabulous for me, but not my dining companion because of that, so just a heads up.
10/18/14- Delicious! We are from Utah and found this amazing 100 percent dedicated gluten free place. First day was at lunch. I enjoyed the poblano deluxe burger with homemade fries, yum!!! Today we went back for breakfast and I had biscuits and gravy!! 4/1/19- We are back again! We went this morning for breakfast and I had fried chicken smothered in their country gravy, potato hash and some eggs. Yum! I haven’t had fried chicken with gravy in over 10 years!! We wish this place was in Utah!!!
Wow! Such a great experience. You have to try the popcorn chicken and donuts!!!!!!!! Belgian waffle, chicken and waffles and chicken fried chicken with gravy got rave reviews from the family. (Non-Celiac husband loved the chicken and gravy - even better than typically fried food). Waiter and hostess were very friendly and helpful. If I could only recommend one restaurant in Phoenix to try, this would be it.
Love their food! Staff is not friendly at all. Waitress took our order and never returned. Someone else brought our food, never got our check, never even got a refill on water (super small cups). Disappointing because their food is really good and I can actually eat here with complete confidence. Too bad their staff is unfriendly and apathetic.
Jewel’s was awesome. My husband had the fried chicken waffle sandwich and I had a waffle with eggs and bacon. We took a cheese danish and a mint cheesecake brownie to go. Everything was outstanding. The only really strange thing was that they didn’t have any decaffeinated coffee or tea, or even herbal tea.
I ordered for delivery, because they have a company that now delivers,so I was excited! I ordered onion rings, because people raved about them, and a bagel egg and bacon sandwich. I was sadly disappointed with the food, and it was not the fault of the delivery service. The onion rings we're horribly greasy, and very limp and old. The bagel was dry, not butter or condiments, and the bacon was rock hard. The potatoes were inedible. I was so excited to have this meal, and am now sorry I ordered it. Maybe it's better if you go in person and eat there. I wonder
Wow! This place is amazing!!!!!!! Everything is gluten free, and the food is spectacular. I stayed in Phoenix for a couple of days and came here three days in a row (that’s how good it is). I had chicken and waffles with a delicious buttery honey sauce. I hadn’t had fried chicken like that in a VERY long time. Didn’t feel sick after eating it, it’s a miracle!
I wish I could like this place because they do have good tasting, good looking items, and it is all gluten free. But I've always gotten the feeling that they really aren't very "into" the bakery part time of their business. This was confirmed by a bad customer service experience recently. They make tasty cupcakes, so I wanted to order some for my wedding. I called multiple times and at first was asked to call back later, then was told "I think we don't do custom orders anymore, let me get my manager" and then they took a message and never called me back. Soon after I saw that the custom order form was removed from their website. So I took my business elsewhere.
Great place! I ordered biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was super light and tasty. Gravy was good (not great...needed more sausage in it). My husband ordered chicken and waffles. I must confess I never understood that combo, however I am now a convert. The chicken was amazing...moist, with a tasty and flaky breading. They create their own dredge from their own flour recipe, and it was yummy!!! The waffles were seriously some of the best waffles I’ve ever eaten. My husband, who is not celiac, said he thought they were great! I highly recommend this place!
Great place for a safe leisurely breakfast. My breakfast included everything anybody could ever want, two eggs, country potatoes, the most delicious bacon I've ever eaten, and a strawberry pancake with fresh strawberries cooked inside, delicious! I've only had maybe three pancakes in the last year & this was the best. My gluten-eating husband decided on fried chicken & Mac n cheese, loved the chicken & the potatoes from my breakfast, thought he would have liked more cheese on his Mac. We were very happy & got donuts and a scone for my mom. She loved the scone.
The staff is extremely helpful with questions and the fact the entire restaurant is gluten free lets you feel good you can eat anything on the menu! Bakery items are amazing. Cost is kinda pricey but very good food we will be back . Be nice if a west side type of restaurant such as this.
A great restaurant, which just happens to be gluten free (which is essential for me, but I really wanted to emphasis that it's a great restaurant first and foremost). We are visiting, but this place makes me want to move. We had a Nashville style chicken fried sandwich and onion rings, and they make me legitimately "Mmmm" like a cartoon character. The bakery special- a scoffle, also was delicious. My only regret is not physically being able to try more.
We have eaten here twice. The first time for lunch and it was fantastic. Onion rings!!! I was elated. So we went back for breakfast. The best chai tea I have ever had but the rest of the meal was very disappointing. The bisuit was inedible. The waffles mushy. The egg we ordered medium was on the done side of completely hard. The eggs and potatoes were unseasoned. such a disappointment.
They really gone downhill in the years that I've been going here. Multiple changes in the menu lead to disappointment and being unable to order something you loved the last time you were there. I had a weekday off and went down to get a donut, which is quite a drive for me, only to find an Unapologetic employee tell me that Donuts are only served on the weekends. Quality of food also is not as good. Just disappointed
As a Celiac, it’s so refreshing to come in to a restaurant and not have to ask what I can eat. Everything is gluten free. It is literally a breath of fresh air with out an ounce of an anxiety rush. I ordered the Chicken and waffles and the Biscuits and Gravy. Both exceptional! Next time I come back I’ll get the Chicken Waffles. It was my favorite. PS try all the baked goods they have to offer.
GF Chicken & Waffles, with 3 toppings on the side = bliss!! Service was a bit unorganized, but they were so nice. The amazing food more than made up for any prior confusion (mixed up orders between tables). Highly recommend, especially if celiac. It was nice to feel "normal" and to not be treated any differently, because of my allergy issues. What a treat!!
