Joe beef was amazing. I have celiac disease and the first thing they asked was if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions. They walked me through the menu and said basically everything could be made gluten free or was gluten free. They even offered to make new sauces etc. The server recommended an amazing wine and we had the ham and cheese appetizer, tuna tartare that was served with endives, gluten free lobster pasta, filet mignon and smashed potatoes. They also had a gluten free dessert which was great. Highly recommend.
I am a Celiac. I was told that the Chef is also Celiac. The food was amazing and safe. The server was very knowledgeable. I had/shared the GF pasta with lobster and a filet mignon with an onion soup gravy. Additionally there was a multi layer cake and a whipped cream dessert with chocolate sauce. All GF and all delicious.
Joe Beef is a classic spot in Montreal. They are so cautious with celiac and can make almost anything on the menu gluten free (except the lobster spaghetti)! Our server told us to let her know what we wanted to try and the kitchen would do what was required to make it gluten free. For example, we had the beef tartare that usually comes with bread but they served it to us with endives instead. Three out of four of their desserts were gluten free. I felt safe and had an incredible meal. 10/10!
When the owner of an establishment of this caliber has celiac, you know you're going to be in good hands. This was one of the best meals of my life, and these guys are *on it* with gluten free / celiac awareness. Did not feel worried at all during/after the meal. A tremendous amount of the menu is safe, and their knowledgeable staff will expertly guide you on what to order/avoid. You are in good hands here.
A mainstay of their menu, the lobster spaghetti is (or can?) be made with their delicious, house-made gluten free noodles.
I was also able to share a ton of appetizers "family style" with my non-gf pals - which is a rarity in and of itself. Tons of gf dessert options as well.
Highly recommend!
