My fiancé and I visited the area to see his extended family. Anyone who has ever been to this area knows that there is nearly nothing for over 100 miles other than HyVee.
When I come here, I bring a cooler full of groceries in order to make it through.
They had gluten free pizza on the menu… I was not even going to bother with it. I was just going to eat my safe sandwich I had brought with me in my bag.
My wonderful fiancé insisted he would try - he talked to the sweet waitress and asked all the right questions about CC, no shared tools, new toppings, etc. The waitress went to the back to talk to the cook - she came back and confirmed they would be able to accommodate all of those things and the crust comes premade in a sealed package. I further pressed (out of anxiety lol) - confirmed that even the sauce or ladle could not be shared, clean gloves, tools, no shared surfaces - the waitress went back again to reconfirm my specific questions. She came back and was happy to say that they would be able to do all of that. She also mentioned she has a cousin with celiac so she understands how serious it is.
I’m happy to report it was not only a wonderful pizza, but I did not have a single reaction!! ❤
Typically I would have felt funny within 30 minutes and my skin will always present an inflammatory rash of some kind if I get cross-contaminated.
I thanked the waitress and cook - I expressed how much this meant to me that I was able to enjoy a meal out with our family.
