The menu (and GF offerings) have changed as of May 2022, and many of the things previous posters talked about are no longer available! I was able to be clear and advocate for my needs, but there was a very limited selection - I ended up getting plain roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus which was good. I was disappointed because there had been such good reviews before, but I was still able to eat safely after being very clear about what I needed. The staff were not as knowledgeable but were able to ask the kitchen to make sure it stayed as safe as possible.
The waitress was knowledgeable about what was safe on the menu. Basically 3 entrees, bread less sandwiches, and crouton-less salads. We had the shepherds pie which was very tasty, and nobody got glutened. We love the colonial ambiance. We will probably be back.
Giving 4 stars because being offered a bread less sandwich stinks. How hard is it to Get a loaf of bread and stick it in the freezer!
Came to put our na.e on the list and woman said 6 put could not put my name on the list for 6 that I would need to come back. Sad management.
Remember to ask the server about the gluten free options because there are more than it says on the menu! Like the menu only denote the shepherds pie and stew were gf but the server let me know there were a couple other options and I ended up getting the roasted vegetable trencher (sans bread) which was really great. It was very herby and had a lot of flavor, and it came with a side which I chose potato salad which was definitely a great choice
It was such a treat to find a tavern at Colonial Williamsburg that not only had GF options but took great care to ensure we had a great meal. From double checking the candies ginger in the punch was ok to explaining how things were prepared so we knew if they were st risk of cross contamination, our server was awesome.
Our waiter was not at all educated on gluten free eating. One of the items marked GF on the menu is actually not gluten free, which we found out after out order was placed. In place of that appetizer, we ordered the cheese and fruit which again, we were told was not gluten free AFTER I ALREADY ATE IT! Only one entree is gluten free, not a good selection which was disappointing after reading prior reviews. I would not suggest this restaurant to anyone, especially not individuals with celiac.
Many GF options. Wait staff very helpful and provided good recommendations for multiple allergens.
