We decided to eat at Katie's based off reviews on this app and we're not disappointed! It was great!
Hostess seated us on the patio over looking the boat docks and server was attentive and supplied me with a GF menu card when asked. He was knowledgeable and helpful with my questions. He doubled checked with chefs and kitchen to ensure my order was possible without cross contamination.
I ordered a side salad with ranch, 3 Blackened Fish (whatever the catch of the day was) Tacos with rice and beans. I had server check if seasonings for blackened fish were safe for me and he confirmed it with chef.
The fish tacos were huge and delicious!! I could barely finish 2! The sauce on them was amazing!! I didn't really care for the rice and black beans but they tasted fine.
I really appreciated the efforts they put in to ensure I could eat safely since my Celiac is very reactive. I didn't get sick at all!!
Definitely recommend Katie's if you have Celiac Disease! Great safe option!
We eat here every time we come to Galveston and I have never had symptoms. The manager came out to ask about my level of sensitivity to cross contamination last time so they are really making an effort on the gf front. The food is always delicious as well! The negative reviews about the long waits or food not being up their standards are confusing to me. 1. If there is a long wait, it’s because the food and ambience is good. 2. If you’re going to be that picky about your meal, eat somewhere else or leave a review on a different app. The food here is delicious and the staff go above and beyond to keep us safe. What more can we ask for?!
We sat on the patio and it was lovely. The service was wonderful, and the seafood was wonderful. The portions were huge, but the food overall was not that good.
The vegetables were not seasoned, not buttered, anything. It was like a bag of frozen veggies was cooked, with nothing else done with them. The Greek salad tasted like it had bottled Italian dressing. Not very good.
Manager came out and ensured that the kitchen was taking precautions.
Oh my goodness! I’m here to say that this place blew me away! I’m not only celiac but have a shellfish allergy, which includes shrimp. My partner adores shellfish and shrimp, so we try to hit places in coastal areas where the catch is good. I mentioned the celiac and gluten free need as well as the shellfish allergy and our waiter pulled the gf menu from his apron pocket, ran us through the menu, then left to give us some time to look everything over, and sent the manager (or who I assume was the manager) to our table. I explained my needs again. He verified that I could have fish and walked me through some options. I ended up with fish tacos, with a crema sauce, Mexican coleslaw, pico on the side, with rice and black beans and corn tortillas. The fish was golden tile. It was so beyond delicious. They took such good care of me that my partner was impressed and stated so several times. I have leftovers because I filled up on two tacos. My partner had the fried shrimp and oyster platter and cleaned his plate as well. (Lucky duck can eat anything.) I would eat here again in a heartbeat.
Just ate here and it was so good!!! Wilson the manager, along with our waiter and kitchen staff all took time to come to the table, explain the steps taken to prepare my meal. They even came back to the table when they realized something specific needed to be substituted. I highly recommend!!!
They said the soups were thickened with corn starch so they were all gluten free so I got the lobster bisque and it was very good. They is quite a few gluten free options and the server was very helpful and had a tiny gluten free menu they keep on them since the menu isn't marked. The fish was also good. My family members who are not celiac say this is in their top 3 places on the islands.
My food was delicious, and the service was great. The first thing the server asked was if anyone at the table had food allergies. When I said gluten, she whipped a GF menu out of her apron! Everyone who came by the table (server, manager, server who brought the food) was extremely knowledgeable about what was and wasn't GF. I had the grouper platter with golden tile subbed for the grouper (server's suggestion), and it was divine! Katies also has fish market next door and own several shrimp/fishing boats. The fish is water-to-table fresh! It's also dog-friendly on the patio!
Very disappointing. Long wait time for very overpriced mediocre meal, and unfriendly service. They do have a separate gf menu if you ask the waiter. I’m celiac and I got the Galveston bake and substituted the Mashed potatoes for the cilantro lime rice since I’m also dairy free. Felt like eating in a cheap cafeteria but they charge $40 a plate.
I had a great experience! I had the catch of the day Galveston style, some Mexican shrimp cocktail, and a seafood soup. All were excellent. I let the waitress know I had celiac and the kitchen manager came by to talk with me. Everyone else from my family ordered regular items and also enjoyed their meals. The portions are big so we could have split a few things.
Wow! What a find! They have a limited GF menu but enough to make anyone happy. I ordered a special after my waiter went back to the kitchen to verify that it could be prepared GF. The manager came by to confirm my order and went back to the kitchen to confirm that it was prepared GF.
There IS a separate GF menu! Our friendly waitress had it on a little laminated card. Everything I ordered was delicious — Mexican shrimp cocktail, garlic butter crab fingers, Caesar side salad. Drinks were amazing. Inside was a bit noisy but dining outside on the deck was very relaxing. Highly recommended!
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about what to recommend for a gluten free meal- it’s been 3 weeks and 3 states ago so I don’t remember if there was a specific gf menu- I had grilled fish, plain white rice , and a wedge salad…my preference, I just like a wedge plain with ranch dressing on the side… the restaurant makes their own salad dressing and the ranch was gf and extremely good- you could tell it wasn’t commercial from a bottle…. My meal was delicious and I had no problems afterwards… when I told my waiter that I have celiac and extremely sensitive, he and the cook staff took this seriously… it was a long wait time to be seated- Spring Break, go figure, but definitely worth the wait!
