King Daddy's Chicken and Waffle

Beware! While this restaurant presents itself as having a sensitivity and awareness of food intolerances and allergies, they do not. My waitress was dismissive when I talked to her about my severe celiac‘s disease, waving me off and telling me it is marked on the menu. When I persisted and told her how sensitive I am I assumed her attitude would not prevent her from notifying the kitchen. Now here I am, it was the only thing I ate that day, and I am dearly paying the price. I can tell it is more than a minor cross contamination issue. I called a few hours later, once I knew I was sick, and nobody has followed up with me about it.

Fabulous fried chicken! And the fried green tomatoes...what a treat!! My husband said the gluten less fried chicken was better than his gluten full fried chicken.

Ate here twice in the past week. Food was great and the staff was very informed on the gluten less items.

I absolutely love this place! I’ve only had waffles here but they are awesome! And very reasonably priced. A huge waffle served w whatever topping you want! Their menu states that they aren’t a gf facility but that they make every effort to prevent cross contamination. I am very sensitive to gluten. I highly recommend this establishment!

Amazing glutenless fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles!!!

best fried gf food i have ever had!! they are usually busy, but the wait times aren’t too long. they have quick service and very knowledgeable and friendly staff. definitely stop by if you are in the area!!

Awesome, funky little place that is definitely celiac friendly. We had a short wait—maybe 15 minutes—and once seated, our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about celiac. The fried chicken is delicious, and our whole family enjoyed the crispy sweet coating and the tender meat on top of waffles—so good! French fries are top notch and also gf. We tried the sweet potato hush puppies—good, but not sure I’d get them again. This was food that you want to eat again—we may have to road trip to Asheville just for King Daddy’s!

Amazing food!! They have a separate preparation area in the kitchen for gluten-less meal needs. The fried chicken and waffles are.... no words to describe the flavor! Just amazing! They have 2 waffles gf waffle Belgian like and a cornbread one. Both amazing! Will definitely be coming to try more from their menu. So many options for gf it is overwhelming!! Make the trip, you won’t be disappointed.

I felt completely comfortable eating here. Staff members were knowledgeable about gluten. The have a separate area to prepare gluten less food. I had the gluten less fried chicken and vegan gluten less waffle. They were very good and I did not get sick at all. I highly recommend this place.

Food was SOOOOO GOOOD and I just wanted to keep eating it. I got the vegan and gluten less waffle with fries and peanut butter and syrup. I didn’t like the sweet potato hush puppies but I’m picky.

The GF fried chicken and waffle was awesome!!! Would have given it five stars, but I think they were understaffed as we had to wait about an hour to get our food. It was definitely worth the wait to be able to eat fried chicken again though!

Wonderful service! I have been twice now and plan to eat here everytime I come to Asheville. No reaction at all and so good in taste texture and reheat

My family of four lives over an hr from here and have eaten here twice in the past few months because my son and I can't do gluten and I also can't handle dairy. Challenging at times to find food out let alone fried chicken. Super exciting to be able to have fried chicken. Son loves getting a waffle the size of his head. This is not my husbands favorite, but he loves me so... Been twice and both times had no issues.

My southern boyfriend was so happy that I was finally able to have hush puppies, fried chicken, and waffles. The food was delicious and I didn't get sick with Celiac

Delicious! Really enjoyed the sweet potato hush puppies and the “gluten less” fried chicken! The vibe is cool, too. I sat at outside for brunch and it was delightful.

this place rocks gluten free. we have Celiac and have never gotten glutened here. the food is incredible!!!!!! my fave is the duck endive salad. gotta get the sweet potato hush puppies every time, too.

This is an amazing restaurant. I had a gluten free fried chicken on gf waffle with cheese and bacon. It was amazing. They have gf sweet potato hush puppies! They have a separate fryer and were extremely knowledgeable about celiac and allergies. There was a wide variety of foods to choose. Wish I lived near here!!!

My fiancée test positive for two of three proteins and is extremely celiac. Came here on while on vacation and was excited after reading the reviews. After confirming all the items she was intending to order ( boneless fried chicken, GL waffle, sweet potato hush puppies) were gluten free the order was made. We were told the syrup and the dipping sauces were also gluten free. Well about half way through her meal she became foggy headed and violently ill and had to take a Zofran in order not to throw up. We were a family of seven so they added in a 20% tip. Our waitress knowing she was getting a guaranteed tip phoned in attending to us. She then argued with us when we asked to have it removed and confronted my fiancée about it (mind you she was a server for 15yrs.) If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible service and not GF friendly.

Absolutely amazing! Having gluten free bone-in fried chicken is quite a treat! I've never seen it offered anywhere else in the nearly 10 years since my celiac diagnosis. The waffle was really good as well, but I can easily make tasty gluten free waffles at home, so it wasn't as exciting as the chicken; the chicken was the star of the show!

This place is amazing! The staff is very knowledgeable and attentive, and they were quick to tell us that they were gluten-less because there is flour in the restaurant, but they have a separate fryer and utensils. We haven't had fried chicken in 5 years, so what a treat to be able to eat it again! Seriously delicious!!Just go eat here! You won't be sorry. Even the grilled chicken was delicious. Well done, King Daddy's!

Delicious gluten free waffle. Friendly staff. They call it “gluten less” because apparently it’s not legal to say gluten free unless you are a certified gluten free kitchen.

Just ate the most awesome fried chicken I have eaten in years! Waffles are yummy too. They forewarn you that there is a lot of flour in the air and if you are super sensitive you might not want to eat there. But I have experienced no ill effects & I usually know right away when I get glutened.

I had the GF fried boneless chicken and cornbread waffle with fried cinnamon apples on top. It was absolutely delicious. Best GF fried chicken (better than my own!). My non-GF partner had the grilled chicken sandwich. He raved about his food, too! Fun in-door and out-door atmosphere, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Staff did warn about possibility of cross-contamination, but they do have a dedicated fryer and work space.

Fried chicken was amazing. The waffle was okay, but gummy. Recommend one of the amazing sides with your chicken instead of the waffle! Brit was knowledgeable, friendly, and gave us great recommendations for other places to try.

Great fried chicken, waffles, and hush puppies! We got the GF fried chicken breasts, since it was a 25 min wait for the other fried chicken. One of the few times my kids have been excited about eating out since being diagnosed with celiac.

They have a dedicated fryer which is nice. I do eat less fried food being celiac, but I sure enjoy the opportunities I get to eat fried food safely. Would definitely recommend.

I never expected to have a gluten free waffle that fluffy! My meal was great, the waffle didn't even taste gf. The place had a nice environment and kind staff. I felt fine afterwards, definitely recommend eating there!

Wonderful food and wait staff. It was a treat to be out of town and actually have fried chicken. Fried green tomatoes were yummy as was the fried trout.
