OVER THE YEARS - so a long time - i have eaten the gluten free vegan muffins here. They are DELICIOUS. The last time I was in there however, I had a muffin that was very clearly and certainly one of the gluten free vegan muffins. I ended up being sick for the better part of a month. That muffin was very much cross contaminated or someone made a mistake with their flours.... I was in dire straits for three solid days. Please don’t eat these muffins if you are celiac or sensitive to gluten. It is very tempting and it was kind of devastating for me to rule out this place 100% as well, as they have other locations in brooklyn which I’ve frequented, and have looked forward to those muffins many a time! However, my health is far more important and i would never risk that again with this establishment. It’s made me really think again and refine my habits of eating at places that are stating GF and DF on their signage, they even kept the muffins separate in the display case. I speak with the staff about it every time i eat there - So there’s this whole illusion that if you eat these muffins (or whatever food is being advertised as GF), that you won’t be sick. The whole trend of advertising this needs to end because these are not safe for people with celiac disease or intolerances or allergies, and it is putting our health in jeopardy by teasing us with these goodies when ultimately we need to be SO diligent and discriminating when we’re eating out. Sorry for the rant, but that muffin was really destructive to my health!
