I absolutely LOVE Kudo. I love Kudo so much I get their gluten free “sourdough” interpretation every 2 weeks, that’s how good it is! I am so thankful we have a world-class safe and dedicated gluten-free bakery in the CBD! I also loveee their savoury focaccia breads when they’re out.
Honestly Kudo is such a gluten-free staple in Melbourne that there’s not much I feel I could add! I will say this: it’s as amazing as everyone says it is, and it’s worth coming in every month or so as the menu does change.
Some things to keep in mind - not criticisms, just things to be aware of:
- The stools and tables are tiny, so it’s not the comfiest place to eat in at. You’ll be fine to sit down and have a coffee and a sandwich or whatever, but it’s not set up for people to sit and chat. If you need a supportive seat you might be comfier at the park across the road
- Not all of the menu is available from the time they open. Different things come out and different times throughout the day and things sell out too. If you go in early (before 10am-ish) some sweets may not be ready, in my experience
Those things in mind, everyone has to try Kudo at least once. The bread is second to none.
I have been regularly buying bread at Kudo for well over a year and still can’t believe it is Gluten Free. It is soooooooo good!! Sourdough fermented, crusty on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. The bakery is dedicated GF with no gluten products or ingredients onsite. The baguettes are to die for.
I was visiting Melbourne and this bakery was around the corner from my hotel. I got a loaf of the sourdough and the sourdough & olive. Seriously some of the best tasting gluten free bread I have ever had! As a sensitive Celiac I was in heaven. It looked liked they had nice desserts and coffees too, but I will have to save those for my next visit.
Absolutely amazing! This is my favourite gluten free bakery in Australia. The bread is SO good! It’s a very small venue so not the best space to eat inside, but you can get takeaway and take it to the park nearby. Some of the menu changes regularly, I’d recommend any kind of garlic scroll or herbed bread, and then of course their tarts are delicious when they have them.
The guys have my heart! Visiting Melbourne from Dublin. First thing to check was for a GF bakery and these guys did not disappoint. Only one option in the treats department for a gluten and dairy free sweet which i didn’t love but the bread is to die for. Take yourself here for a toasted sandwich (look they are expensive but it was sooooo worth it!) The bread is some of the nicest sourdough Iv had
Fantastic dedicated GF bakery with great options of sweet and savoury. Hearty and filling toasties were gorgeous, along with the canelés and madeleine (the madeleine is closer to a small pound cake in texture rather than a traditional madeleine, but delicious and not dry in the slightest). We also had their pandan jelly latte which was absolutely delicious. Delightful place and would 100% reccomend!
My first food experience in Melbourne! I got one the cashier recommended, the three cheese toastie and a vanilla and rum canelle. The bread was really good, I could see myself eating a whole baguette. I definitely want to stop in again - cannot believe this is entirely GF! Menu seems to be rotating seasonally, small selection of toasties - understandably so because it is a tiny bakery in the city.
Lovely little dedicated GF bakery making excellent bread. We bought the pumpkin loaf to take away and had cheese toasties, canele, and coffee/hot chocolate for breakfast. Everything was great. The hot chocolate was dark and strong - perfect. Only seating for 5! 2 inside and 3 outside under cover. It was 10 degrees C and raining but we were comfortable in the outside space.
Kudo is a GF paradise!! everything is gluten free, and they offer a rotating menu of breads (check their instagram if you want a specific item). their canelé are delicious and have many asian-inspired flavours. they do get very busy so i recommend going close to opening.
