I haven't been back here for several years due to covid and living in Washington. Didn't realize the last review was from 2017. Unfortunately I didn't have a good experience, the menu said to tell server about allergies and I tried to ask about gluten and was dismissed with no effort to understand. Without good communication I didn't feel safe eating here, so I didn't eat the food.
— Not at all
— No gluten-free information on the menu
— Not Much/None
— Poor
No specific GF menu, but the staff was great and checked with kitchen. I had a carnitas burrito bowl which was awesome. Great authentic Mexican food.
Novato has a lot of Mexican restaurants, but it's been hard to find one that can accommodate gluten-free food while still being tasty. The lady who answered the phone was very friendly and knowledgeable about what dishes had gluten in them, which convinced me to come in and give them a try. There is not a gluten-free menu, but she was able to answer all of my questions. The red burrito/enchilada sauce has gluten, so order the mole or tomatillo sauce instead. The Mexican rice is fine - it has none of the burrito/enchilada sauce. So, there are a lot of options that don't need modification (i.e. tacos, fajitas, seafood). In addition to having gluten-free options, the food was tasty, fast and cheap! The atmosphere is definitely casual - but it was quite busy at dinner time with a lot of happy customers. This would be a good place to take kids.
