Review of Laughing Seed Cafe

This restaurant does NOT have truly gluten-free food. They serve food that was once naturally 'gluten free,' until they placed it onto surfaces that are absolutely, consistently exposed to gluten. Lots of it! Forgive me, for I'm rating this poorly based strictly upon my dissatisfaction over the fact that I was misinformed by staff when I called ahead to inquire as to whether or not their 'gluten free' food is safe for celiacs. I didn't want to waste the gas and time to drive out there if it wasn't. The woman on the phone told me it is. It is NOT, as I was fortunately informed by the kind and knowledgeable waitress as well as the apologetic chef. This cost me a great amount of quality time spent with some vegan friends who were visiting from many hours away. WHY OFFER 'GLUTEN FREE' FOOD THAT YOU TURN AROUND AND EXPOSE TO GLUTEN, THEREBY RENDERING IT INEDIBLE BY THOSE OF US (with Celiac or NCGS) WHOSE DISEASE IS THE VERY REASON "EATING GLUTEN-FREE" IS EVEN A CURRENT TREND? (Insert huge slap in the face)

Note: I used to frequent this restaurant prior to receiving my celiac diagnosis. I won't take away from the friendliness of the staff or the quality of their food. They are bit too pricey, but good. JUST DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE CELIAC... Remember: it only takes about 1/75th to 1/100th of a slice of bread to cause 6-18 months of intestinal damage. Is one meal worth the risk?
