I’d give maybe 3.5. Loved Leatherby’s growing up and we even had their ice cream at my wedding reception before I had celiac, but I was really scared to try it based on other reviews and the fact that Leatherby’s is basically run by teenagers. I contacted the company to ask if they had a gf menu or at least to know if the Black and Tan ice cream is gf because it’s my favorite. This was their reply: “There is no gluten in a Black and Tan. The caramel served in store and the chocolate sauce are gluten free. The caramel in jars to go is the only caramel that contains gluten(it’s a preservative). When you order, let your server know you’re allergic to gluten, and they will wash/sanitize everything in the process so there’s no cross contamination. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you!” At the restaurant, our server said they had a chart that said which items were gluten free. Wish I could’ve seen it. Although they have a few salads that look gluten free, I wouldn’t trust the savory food at all with cross contamination. I ended up getting the Black and Tan ice cream, even though I was still pretty terrified (I’ll include photos). I’m not sure if they took any special precautions even though I requested it. The ice cream was very good although it could’ve used sauce on top like they used to do many years ago. Overall, it was delicious and I don’t think I had any symptoms. I don’t think I’d come here often, though. When the place is basically run by teenagers and there’s no gluten free menu, it makes me nervous.
