DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU ARE A CELIAC!!! Supposedly this restaurant regards themselves as "gluten-free friendly". WRONG! I am a celiac. Not just gluten intolerant or following some gluten free fad diet, but a full blown celiac. This facility has proven to be extremely uneducated as to health/allergen risks. Both my son & myself ordered a grilled chicken salad from their gluten free options. The salads came out with a slice of garlic bread laying on the salad. When I noticed the bread, I politely explained to the waitress that they were ordered as gluten free due to celiacs and we couldn't eat them because of the contact. She said "no problem, I am very sorry we will remake those right Within four minutes flat (yes I had glanced at my phone when she walked away with the salads) she returned with two "new" salads and set in front of us. My initial thought was "they cooked the chicken and prepared these that quick?" My second thought as I glanced down at the plate was "holy crap this is the same contaminated salad!" How Did I know? Well when the original salad was set down in front of me I did not immediately look down at it as I was in conversation with another member of my family. I instinctively picked up the salt shaker and began to salt my salad and then I looked down and noticed the bread. Point is, when she brought back this "new" salad first thing I noticed was the salt lying all over the top of the cucumber slices. I wiped my finger across the top of the cucumber to verify as the manager happened to approach our table. I, as you can imagine, was livid. How dare a restaurant put a patrons health at risk to save lettuce on lettuce? It may take me a short while after I eat to get sick but what would have happened to the customer with a shell fish or nut allergy that when they "removed" and re-served the same plate went into anaphylactic shock and potentially died? Very upsetting, the ignorance in regards to knowledge of celiacs. No one understands until you experience the wrenching of your guts for days afterwards or the embarrassing rash that consumes your skin, the vision that blurs so badly that you cannot see to drive. The migraine headache that is so severe you don't know whether to vomit or cry. Or any of the other 300 documented symptoms of celiacs disease. Knowledge about the disease begins by understanding that individuals with celiac disease face a 5-fold increased risk of developing non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Do us all a favor and don't label yourself something that you are not. Making money should not be worth making unsuspecting individuals sick.
