The food was excellent. There was no separate gluten free menu and only the burgers were marked as having a gluten free option. I let the waitress know I had a food allergy since I wasn't certain about the dish I ordered. She double checked with the chef, which I appreciated. She also brought out some GF rolls for me, which was nice. I would definitely come back.

Ordered breakfast and was glutened :( very sensitive celiac here - had egg white omelet w veggies and side of bacon and was sick within 20 minutes. Menu looked great and I was confident eating here based on reviews, so be careful!

Ordered gf burger, gf fried flounder, and gf duck. Servers know a little but not a lot about gluten. All 3 dishes tested as safe using the Nima.
Yes
They have a few choices for gluten free. The restaurant is very historic to the Outer Banks

Great rolls served with dinner, knowledgeable staff proposed substitutions for sides.
The menu is normally small and the GF menu is therefore even more limited, but at least clearly marked. The food was just okay but compared to the expensive price it wasn’t worth it, and the service was definitely lacking. There are much better options in the area, and we only went because the Paper Canoe next door was too busy.
Yes
Food was good. Able to provide a gluten free roll while everyone else had one. Gluten free marked on menu. Our server lacked knowledge of what was and wasn't gluten free however
We ate several times there (breakfast and dinner) while staying at the Sanderling. They were very knowledgeable about celiac disease and helpful. Gf bread to accompany meals is no problem.
Yes
Very poor service and limited options. Only 2 items on the lunch menu were labeled GF (salads), and the waiter seemed very confused when we asked about gluten free options. It took over 45 minutes to get our GF sandwiches, and the server did not inform us of the delay until 40 minutes had passed.

Great food. Great atmosphere. My celiac 4 year old loved her warm gf dinner roll (she hasn't had a dinner roll in a restaurant since we were in Disney World). She had a cheeseburger with no bun, although they did have gf buns. Green beans were also safe. Waitress checked with chef on certain items. Adult Menu is labeled with gf items. Food is much higher quality than other more touristy restaurants nearby. If you are staying in Corolla or Duck, we highly recommend giving it a try.
Update Aug 2016-what happened to the GFree bread basket? I'd even pay extra for it, bring it back! It's always a little sad to sit and watch friends and family enjoy the rolls and breads when I cannot. The omelette and potatoes were still yummy though. July 2014--Breakfast is delicious. Staff was very knowledgeable about GFree. They even brought me a basket of GFree breads, and I cried. I haven't been able to eat from the bread basket in years. The farmer's omelette was delicious. I was consistently impressed by breakfast during the week. Ate dinner once, tuna steak, it was good but wasn't amazing.
Host and server familiar with gluten free info. Food and gf bread both were delicious.
Yes
The smoked salmon BLT was to die for, and my husband really liked his barbq pork sandwich. Both were able to be done on the BEST gf buns and bread!
NOTE: Despite being marked as safe on the menu (as of 2/22/15) we were told that the FRIES were NOT safe. However, they said that it was their bad that they misprinted that and they heated oil on the stove and made us our own batch of safe fries. they said that if they were super busy they might not have been able to do that, but they were more than happy to accommodate us today :)
PS. Lunch wasn't that expensive here. I saw three dollar signs and thought it would be pricey, but we left STUFFED after having an ap and two lunches for 43 including a good tip.
Extremely GF friendly. The waitstaff was willing to go back to the kitchen numerous times to see what items could be modified for me to eat. They served us warmed GF rolls- what a treat! We shared mussels that were GF without the bread accompanying them. And, I had the Carolina BBQ with grilled chicken instead of the beer chicken. (The BBQ items were a little heavy on the spice, but certainly empty on the gluten.) Left full and content. Excellent service and experience.
Went here the day after dining at the Blue Point. The Life Saving Station was far superior to the Blue Point restaurant in every way. The waiter (Bryan) was awesome. He was very knowledgeable and checked with the chef on all questions we had if he wasn't able to answer straight away.
Almost every item on the children's menu can be made gluten free and the same goes for the main menu. Gluten free rolls came right out of the oven and were delish! Our son who suffers from Celiac Disease ordered gluten free chicken fingers with a side of GF Mac & Cheese. He ate until he was stuffed...but still was able to have one of their several GF dessert offerings.
The entire wait staff was friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. My only complaint is that we didn't come here earlier on our vacation! We will come back here next year for sure. I recommend any families with a CD diner do the same.
If you call ahead, they will have gluten free rolls for you that come straight out of the oven when you arrive. The waitress told me that almost everything on the menu is gluten free or can be changed to be. The staff was all very accommodating, and they double checked everything with the kitchen. They also have an assortment of homemade gelato that is all gluten free, and very delicious. I left very full, but with no stomach ache!
