Fun place with well marked menu of gluten free items. Bit limited on vegetarian gluten free items because the tofu isn’t gluten free. (Really wish they’d change that.) The edamame was absolutely delicious. Had a decent cabbage salad as well. Lots more options for meat eaters.
This place had my favorite bites of our entire trip to Austin. There are quite a few gf marked options on the menu. We came for their happy hour ($5 frozen G&T???) I had the edamame and the sesame noodles which were incred. Husband had the salmon dip (not gf but he loved it). Will definitely make this a stop when we come for another visit!
Service is amazing, bar tenders are fun, friendly, and attentive. Love the space and vibe both inside and outside. Come here!!!
2024 Update: Still no issues with the Salmon Bowl! (My go to)
2023 - Original Review: I went to Loro last night, and absolutely incredible food. I got the Brisket (just the meat) & Salmon Rice bowl and it was fantastic. Since it was a little slower when I was there, the brisket came out in 5 minutes, lightning quick. They also noted it was for a gluten allergy as they brought it to the table.
The salmon bowl was very good. Mine came out separate from everyone else’s and took a lot longer which is a good sign 😁. My table mates were eating wonton chips and I noticed they were flaky. With the wind kicking up, flakes got all over. Not the restaurants fault of course but more of an observation of sharing with a guests that eat gluten.
The first question at the counter was are you celiac? They knew very well what was gf, what had cross contamination and what didn’t. There are plenty of options, but it is a shared fryer. I loved the salmon, snap peas and coconut rice. Fun vibe too! Staff mentioned gluten free and celiac safe when they dropped off the food. So nice!
Cute environment! Lots of great food here and pretty quick service. Go up to the counter/bar and get the celiac allergen list. It shows what foods are safe and what modifications need to be made to others.
Due to supply chain issues, Loro doesn't have tamari. Some of their normal GF items are off limits for now, like the chicken Karaage. There were still a ton of options available (attaching an allergen menu) and our server was kind enough to walk me through the menu and mark each item we ordered as an allergy to prevent any cross contamination. Food was wonderful and no issues aears. Always a great spot for gluten free eats.
This place is fantastic. When your order at the bar, the folks working there walk you though all of your options and are extremely knowledgeable about celiac needs. A decent portion of the menu is safe to eat. Quality of the food is amazing. I did not get sick after eating here and felt confident the team would keep me safe.
They are very knowledgeable of their menu and cross contamination. They have a huge book with all their menu items listed with allergens, ask at the bar where you order. Let them know you have celiac and they will take cross-contamination precautions. Also, house made sauce for rice bowl does contain fish sauce but bartender/server checked the bottle and it said “Gluten Free”. To go orders will also reflect GF items.
It’s a nice setting with outdoor seating mostly. The food I ate was good, and I did not have a gluten reaction.
However, this place loses 2 stars for
#1 No dedicated fryer
#2 house-made sauces contained gluten
A few changes in their menu and kitchen would make this place truly gluten-free friendly.
Loro is fantastic! Menu is clearly marked & staff is knowledgeable & understanding. Every single thing we’ve had there has been incredible. I’m always down for their frozen gin & tonic. If you are lucky enough to come on a day they are offering a bbq rib meal, do it! It’s transcendent. Can get crowded (it’s a beloved spot) but has loads of outdoor seating on the swanky patio & additional outdoor areas, as well as indoors.
Have ordered the same thing a few times and really enjoyed it each time with no symptoms (bavette bowl and chicken karaage). When we ordered online the first time, we ordered something that people online often commented was gluten-free, but the restaurant called us to say it's not and asked if we wanted to substitute it (pork belly). Very grateful they caught it!
The lady behind the counter was extremely helpful she knew what was GF off the top of her head but she brought out the allergy binder just to double check. She even explained how the different food was cooked and the taste! The food was delicious and I did not get sick! Great overall experience!
Every staff member I talked to (hostess, bar staff, server) knew exactly what was and wasn’t gf/celiac and was very nice about educating me on it. Tons of gf options here—most of the meats, many of the sides. No reaction to anything I ate and it was delicious!
