Amazing!!! There’s nothing like walking into an establishment and not having to worry about cross contamination as everything is gluten free. The Arepas here are absolutely amazing as are all the sauces.

All food is gluten free. I had the arepa basico with a sauce called roja y dulce. A great experience! The best part was I didn't get sick, which sounds like weak praise, but you GF friends know what I mean. Please note Maiz opens at 4 pm Monday-Thursday, but does serve lunch Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Looking forward to going back!

Delicious arepas, even if a little messy. They seem to take GF seriously when ordering online, and the staff are very nice. No issue for my celiac wife.

Really knowledgeable about celiac and food is naturally GF. Some items are better than others but overall well worth the trip! Don’t miss the cilantro sauce

Highly recommend!!! I love arepas, so this was my first choice for my one night in town. I ordered chuzos and the pork arepa. This was the best pork I have had and the sauces are amazing! The chuzos were so delicious. This made my first night ever in Maine even more memorable, and I brought my dinner to a picnic table at the Portland Head Lighthouse. Great memories!

The food is really good. The whole menu is gluten free! So far I have only had an arepa but I cant wait to go back and try more things like the empanadas. The arepa was big so I got two meals out of it.

Across all of the towns, cities, states, countries and continents we've eaten in, MAIZ is hands down one of our top two or three favorite restaurants ever. Delicious, unique and gluten free food. Good sized portions and lots of choices! As other reviewers have stated, all of the food is GF and one of the owners has Celiac. They do sell gluten filled beer, but it's in cans and not at all threatening. Worth a road trip! Seriously, go here, people!

As a Celiac living in the Portland area for the last decade, I would like to show some serious love and appreciation for the existence of this place and proclaim it accurately as one of the best Celiac-safe establishments ever in Portland. This food is gluten-free and drips with flavor that I truly only remember from pre-Celiac days; the arepas are outrageously tasty with the corn tender on the inside side and perfectly grilled on the outside, and meats which are tender and flavorful. The sauces are possibly even more delicious - do yourself a favor and try the Salsa de Suerito if you don't mind a hint of spice. These folks were kind and answered my questions over the phone before initial visit and confirmed that everything that comes in and out of Maiz is gluten free. I am a risk-adverse Celiac and therefore typically look only towards dedicated gluten free kitchens such as this when eating out....I can report all experiences at Maiz have been safe as advertised! Sincere hopes that this spot does as well as it deserves and is a cornerstone of Woodfords Corner for years to come!

Delicious food! Dedicated gf facility (one of the owners has celiac so she is very careful). However this location is closed—they’re now at 621 Forest Ave, with an expanded menu. One of my favorite places to eat in the city!
