Enjoyed our dinner here! Not the best arepas I’ve ever had (I prefer a fluffier arepa dough and these were thinner) but still very good.

Maiz is very safe for Celiac and the food was great. It was surprisingly expensive for rice, beans, and meat (~$108 for four meals and two beers), but I recommend it if you're in the mood for Colombian!

This was a great little place. Friendly staff, delicious safe food. I’m a very sensitive celiac and had no problems. I loved the cheese empanada and coconut lime drink.

This was the first place we ate on our trip to Portland and everything we had was absolutely delicious. We ordered 4 dishes and each one was better than the last. The portions were also very reasonable.

The restaurant is tiny- there’s only 2 or 3 tables and a few stools, so keep that in mind when deciding what time to eat. We ordered takeout after reading that parking can be difficult (it’s street parking which wasn’t a problem for us, but there’s also a Walgreens across the street I’m sure you could park in the grab your food in a pinch).

I moved to Portland a few months ago, and Maiz has become my new go-to. The entire menu is gluten free. I love the arepas and pan de bono! I’ve tried multiple things off the menu, and honestly EVERYTHING is delicious!

Outstanding! This food was sooooo tasty. Even my husband, who does not typically go for this type of food (meat and potatoes guy) raved about it and wants to go back. Totally gluten-free, and those arepas were out of this world.

The greatest thing about this place is that EVERYTHING is gluten-free! My partner and I enjoyed our food, him more than I. Our favorite was the cheese arepa.

I had the tipico arepa (cheese,) with garlic sauce and chicken+cheese empanadas with cilantro sauce. My partner had the arepa upgrade and the chorizo+cheese empanadas with rosada (mayo and ketchup) sauce.

I paid nearly $60 bucks, I’ve seen much better prices elsewhere.

In town visiting and wanted to make sure to hit Maiz. Ordering was overwhelming but I ended up with the Garlic Chicken Arepa and a Lucky Pigeon Beer. I haven’t had been in YEARS. It was good but I’ll stay a spirits drinker for now…I really appreciate having the option though! The Arepa was only meh. It was very bland, I was looking for much more flavor especially with a garlic paste. I ended up getting more to slather on as well as the cilantro sauce that again wasn’t very flavorful. My hubby had the chorizo and beans arepa that was only ok, we prefer chorizo that doesn’t have cinnamon or the spices I I denture as more sweet. I would definitely go back and try more.

Ate here THREE times on a 5 day trip to the Portland area. Completely celiac safe as it’s all gluten free. No reactions and the most delicious food! First time having arepas. Highly recommend!

Delicious arepas!! Everything is completely gluten free including sauces (just watch out for bottled drinks). Each arepa comes with your sauce of choice. Variety of filling selections - including vegetarian options. Several sides and appetizers as well.

I had the bean arepa- very large size - filled with beans, cheese and some pico de gallo and guacamole!! The cilantro and green hot sauces are delicious. My husband had the veggie arepa - with chickpeas, cauliflower, tons of guac.

Local gluten free beer with my arepa was a perfect pairing. I would definitely recommend stopping here for a filling meal!

This is small place with some parking available out front, but it's not downtown which I think makes it easier to get to. The arepas here are so good, and filling, you may even have some leftovers for the next day. Be advised there is not a lot seating inside the restaurant, so during peak times it's probably best to opt for takeout.

The BEST food I’ve had in years of being GF. Everything on the menu is GF. I had the arepa de chorizo and was not disappointed! Just as good (if not better) than the arepas I had in Latin America. Cannot recommend this place enough.

A GF kitchen, great food and huge portions. Eaten here several times now with no issues. The arepas are overstuffed with the fillings and the rice bowls are very generous

It’s always a pleasure to eat somewhere I know I’ll be safe. I had the mushroom and plantain arepa with green spicy sauce. It was good, but a little dry, and the mushrooms weren’t as flavorful as I was expecting. Overall I think maybe I just chose wrong and am looking forward to going back and trying another arepa next time.
