Fantastic Colombian street food restaurant, entirely gluten-free. (All the dishes are traditionally made with corn and tapioca flours so there is no gluten needed.) Most of the menu is arepas, which are corn flatbreads stuffed with various fillings; Maiz stuffs them very full, so be aware that eating them can get messy! Appetizers include pan de bono (savory tapioca cheese roll, aka pao de queijo), empanadas (various fillings, including chicken, cheese, and beef), and arepitas (small arepas with cheese in the batter) - it's very possible to make a meal from these if you don't feel up to an entire arepa. While you can get an arepa with a non-cheese filling, be aware that most items here contain cheese, so not great if you're dairy-free. The Brunswick restaurant has a spacious, eclectically-decorated seating area and is near a park.

Entire menu is gluten free and several gf beer options. Food was fresh and delicious! Had arepas and pigeon brew beer.

Such great flavors and with it being 100% gluten free, I enjoy it that much more knowing it’s safe! The empanadas are soft and flavorful and the fillings are great. A great addition to Brunswick!

Been to the portland location several times, my first time at this one. Exact same food, different atmosphere. Both are casual, but this one seems to have more drinks & more of a food stall type of feel. Beautiful space and parking right out front

Maiz is dedicated gluten free, celiac safe and is soooo good! The empanadas are our favorite, and the arepas are great too. Our 11yo (who has celiac) loves getting a build your own bowl with rice, black beans, cheese and a side of plantains. It’s a fun atmosphere too. Highly recommend!

The food was amazing! We got arepas & the cheese empanadas. We will definitely be adding this to our list of safe restaurants to frequent! The waitress assured me everything that came out of their kitchen is GF, I had no reaction.

Love Maiz! The food is wonderful and the great staff are a joy. This dedicated GF restaurant offers Columbia food with offerings you can customize to your liking. Closed Sunday and Monday. They also have a location in Portland,ME

I can’t believe it took us so long to try this place out. Arepas, empanadas, everything we tried was excellent. Super friendly people. We left talking about what we’ll try next time we go- there WILL be a next time (and soon!)

So amazing I went two nights in a row. Just keep craving it. I wish I lived closer so I could make this a regular part of my life. The space was also really comfortable for conversations, staff was super helpful, all the food is gluten free, just some canned beers keep it from being 100%GF

Do not miss this place! Everything here is GF! I have a dairy allergy and they said any arepa could be made DF. Everyone was happy with their meal, even my 10 year old who said he didn’t want to eat here. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Tons of seating at the Brunswick location, indoors and out. We will definitely be back.
