I originally wanted to go to this joint because my girlfriend had gone before multiple times and had an amazing safe meal. I have celiac disease, and I only attend places that have gluten-free on the menu and have been visited by sensitive friends. If they get sick, I'm not going, but I heard it was really great! So I was excited. That was, until I sat down.

So, like always, we sat down, and when the server came, we told him that we had specialty diets. He made this contorted face like "eh, yuck"and we said to reassure him "It's just gluten free and dairy free, we just wanted to tell you, so you could let the chefs know." He seemed confused, and pointed out to us that the gluten-free items were clearly marked on the menu (Obviously). He then went away and the three of us just starred at each other wondering what just happened. We've all been through this before, where the waiter just had a misunderstanding on what we were asking. So we gave him another chance.

We then asked why the tacos (the easiest thing to make GF) weren't marked gluten-free when other things were that had similar ingredients. He battled with another person in our group saying that it was the sauce in the meat. Now, head scratch here, it's the same meat in the other dishes marked gluten free. He then went on to say that it was "just a little sprinkle" of the seasoning. At this point, the look of confusion was more like terror.

Another person stopped by, maybe a server, and we begged to speak to the manager again, since it had been a few minutes. The first arrogant waiter stopped by again and said, "I heard you want to talk to the manager, but I know the menu from the top to the bottom." You could tell that he was arrogant and thought he knew it all. I told him that we had to talk to a manager because we don't want to get sick. He said "well, you know it's not really our fault if you get sick."Now, I understand why restaurants have the legal clause that it is not a gluten-free kitchen even though they prepare gluten-free food, but it's not an excuse for you to not do your job! Especially if you advertise gluten-free food. The level of smugness from this guy was dripping.

He came back out and told us that the manager was in a meeting and that we couldn't meet with him. We told him were were leaving and I asked for a bill. He said that we didn't have to pay and he understood why we had to leave.

I had never dealt with that level of rudeness, smugness from a server before. All you had to do was send over a manager. In fact, when we left, one of our party ran into her old server and he had no problem serving us gluten-free safely. But at that point, my blood was boiling and I was out the door.

So, thank you, ONE SERVER for wasting our time, energy, and emotions. I understand how to navigate a restaurant gluten-free to stay safe - but do you? You would have gotten a great tip from all of us. We would have been great people in your section. But instead, you let your arrogance stand in the way and managed to turn me off from your restaurant. One that is rated in Find Me Gluten Free. One that is recommended by celiacs. Absurd.
