I had the bacon wrap filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes, and side salad with Italian dressing. They did bring out a backed tomato that had bleu cheese and another cheese, I wasn’t sure if bleu cheese was gluten free so I did not eat it. But everything else was very tasty, no steak sauce needed and very tender juicy steak. Neat atmosphere, will dollar bills as wallpaper and hanging from ceiling Will definitely go back!!
Good food with shrinking portions. Asparagus is now 4 tiny pieces. Prime rib is now $50. Just like many restaurants they put croutons on the salad. .18 bowl of beans is now 6.99. GF or not you will leave feeling robbed.
It's fine if you don't need to worry about cross contact. The server seemed knowledgeable and my food arrived with allergy flags, so I felt reassured. I had the french onion soup (sans the bread) and a burger (no bun) with mushrooms, onions and Swiss cheese. Root beer to drink. Food was delicious. It takes four to five hours for me to have a reaction. I woke up at 11 p.m. with nausea and cramping. Felt awful the next morning and still cramping and slightly nauseous two days later.
This year was my husband’s first year at McGuire’s and he has celiac. He ordered the Molly’s cut, salad with no croutons, 18 cent bean soup, and asparagus. We also got the Spinach Artichoke Dip with homemade potato chips as an appetizer. You get SO MUCH FOOD. But he loved it! Said it was phenomenal and never had any reaction! He also have some leftover steak, asparagus, and mashed potatoes for lunch the next day and never had any reactions as well. We love this restaurant and are so grateful it was safe for him!
Our waiter was rude right off the bat. When I asked about gluten free he rudely replied he knew nothing about gluten. Then he forgot my Diet Coke twice, forgot my appetizer, and offered zero other help for me needing something GF due to celiac. Thank the Lord I got mashed potatoes, a chef salad no croutons and a small of bean soup and didn’t get sick.
McGuire’s was recommended to us by several people. The wait was long, but we agreed to eat outside in the tower for a shorter wait. The tower had beautiful views of the water. There was a separate menu. I informed the waiter that we had gluten allergies. I ordered the naked Mahi Mahi. It was served with a crispy grit cake with my Mahi Mahi laid on top of it. Sigh…..because I’m used to it, I took it off and removed the crispy grit cake in a separate plate. I think the server would have fixed it, but I didn’t want to make a fuss. The rest of the food was okay. Caesar salad, minus the croutons, was warm and wilted. Other without gluten allergies enjoyed their food.
Has a fairly large gluten-free menu. The server was very helpful and checked with the head chef.
They have a gluten free menu, but the hostess and waitress didn’t seem to have much knowledge about it. The hostess didn’t know they had a gluten free menu until another person grabbed one and handed it to her. The gluten free menu doesn’t list the sides, so I asked my waitress what sides were gluten free and she just listed all of their sides to me. The food was delicious and I didn’t get sick.
The waitress was very knowledgeable. The gf menu had spinach artichoke app on it but luckily the waitress realized that unfortunately their new chips are not corn. She brought me celery and carrots instead. Also my steak came out with the fried onion ring on it so they had to remake it. So make sure your waiter/waitress specifies no onion ring gluten allergy when entering your order. Next time I’ll ask for the manager to ensure it’s done correctly in the kitchen. But food as always haz been was absolutely amazing!
Food, service, and drinks were very good, but there are items on the gluten free menu that are fried in a shared fryer, and there was no indication on the gluten free menu that the steaks are served with onion rings. I have an email into management to address these concerns, but if you are really sensitive I would think twice about eating here.
Had separate gluten free menu and was amazing! Server was also helpful.
Eaten there several times over the years. But last night I ordered strictly off their gf menu and got seriously sick. I think it was their appetizer Blue Chips that made me sick. I got blisters on my tongue and ended up throwing up and getting a migraine. I'm celiac. Manager was uncaring and acted like it wasn't their fault. Just be careful if you go here.
Server lacked knowledge. Ordered the pork chops and even though the gf menu said it comes with sauce and applesauce for a side, they didn't put either on the plate. Had to ask for it. Again, poor effort from our server to make sure we had a great experience.
We are there for an evening meal. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. I ordered only from the gluten free menu asking for the substitutions given. I had the artichoke dip, salad and the Molly steak. All the the substitutions. The best steak I've had in years! I highly recommend it. I'm very sensitive and had no problems whatsoever ever.
The waitress was exceptional and very knowledgeable. There is a separate gluten free menu that has quite a few options. It was the best food we ate in the Destin area by far. There was one weird occurrence though. We ordered the potato skins appetizer and my non-gluten free family members couldn't figure out what would be in them that wouldn't be gluten free, but they weren't listed on the gluten free menu. We asked the waitress why they weren't gluten free and she said they were. My boyfriend ate them and didn't get sick, so that was a little weird.
The staff was very friendly and did what they could. Yes there is a gf menu, but no gf brunch menu. Had the grilled chicken- it is 2 big breasts(but was bland and dry)! All portions are HUGE. Lamb and steak were very good. Could not guarantee omelettes gf for celiac level and cross contamination. Fun atmosphere and options for dinner or lunch but do not do brunch.
Absolutely the best steak I have ever had! They are great with cross contamination and have a good size gf menu. I will definitely being eating here again when in town.
Having been my first gluten free trip to Destin, my dining experience at McGuire's was one of the better ones I've ever had in Florida. I'm the only gluten free eater in my family and my meal was VERY good. We had the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer and I requested corn tortilla chips (which, according to my family, were better than the ones that came with the dip). For my entrée I ordered the grilled chicken which was moist and had a sweet, citrus flavor. I also got their signature bean soup which was surprisingly super good! Everything I ate was off of the gluten free menu, which- in my opinion- wasn't limited at all. If you're worried about running into complications, I suggest double checking with your server when you order so that they understand exactly what you want and what you don't want.
If you have a severe allergy I suggest not coming here. While they do have a "gluten free" menu it is limited. My steak came with onion rings on it even though it was ordered off the gluten free menu. My steamed veggies where still half frozen as well. After sending it back 2 times it finally was delivered correctly. Everyone was done eating by the time I got to eat. And they didn't even take it off my bill.
The food was not good! They loaded everything with pepper and made it taste horrible. I alerted my server of my severe gluten allergy and when they brought my steak out it had onion rings on it. I should have sent it back but it took 45 mins to get our order that I didn't. It was overpriced for the quality of the food. The potato was hard as a rock...BLEH! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone but especially not someone with an allergy to gluten!
The prime rib is to die for. Limited gluten free options but many items can be gluten free off main menu. Great atmosphere but plan ahead because it is very popular..
