I will start by saying my husband enjoyed his sandwich. I have Celiacs and am very sensitive to croas contamination. My husband called ahead to make sure they had a Gluten Free menu. They did. I told the waitress I have Celiacs and she said she would tell the cooks to be very careful. After looking over the Gluten Free menu I noticed the onion dip was called the Guinness Onion Dip. I asked the waitress if this had Guinness in it as it's on the Gluten Free menu. She said it did. I then stated that it's not gluten-free then. She said "the Gluten boils out when we cook it". I wasn't going to order that, so I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. I had about 3 bites and started feeling very sick. I flagged down another waitress and asked if the corned beef was cooked in beer. She came back and said yes. At this point I was sick and mad. I told her, "This was on the gluten-free menu and it's not gluten-free and now I'm sick." The manager spoke to the owner who said "it's only 1 part Guinness to 4 parts water. The Gluten boils off" I told them that's not how Gluten works. You can't "cook off" the Gluten. They didn't charge me for my meal. But obviously I became very sick because of their lack of knowledge about Gluten and what is actually gluten-free and how things become cross contaminated. I will never eat there and if you have Celiacs I would NOT recommend it.
Had an interesting experience here.
Just be careful to read the “fine print” of their gf menu..
I am going to share photos.. the last item on the Gluten Free menu lists out all of the components, and then the following line, says to make sure you as the customer sees this line and tells the server to not include a couple of the components so it will be gluten free…
Of course I didn’t read that far..
But out of general
Gf paranoia my meal arrived with a dinner roll that looked to good to be true..
Phew!!! They do have a gluten free menu!!!
But the devil is in the details and the server was not aware herself of the line to exclude the components either.
The error was corrected, we didn’t get charged for the mistaken meal.
That being said, the Irish Bowl was very dry without the gravy, so ask for lots of butter.. that will solve the issue.
