Sadly I wanted to love this place as they seemed knowledgeable but I am Celiac and this was one of those instant sick reactions after the first few bites and not worth risking trying again.
The kitchen staff and servers are very careful about cross contamination. If you are super sensitive I am sure they can safely serve you a burger and fries without making you react. I am both dairy free and gluten free and I opted for a salad because I don't like Udi's buns. Their bun vendor changes regularly so you might have better luck. I also like that they donate to local school fundraisers.
Dedicated fryer is amazing - service is slow however have never gotten sick from here!
They have a separate drier and I got to enjoy fries. The hamburger bun was delicious as well. I had a great experience overall.
Not a big menu offerings for gluten free. I do appreciate what they have.
The staff here were super friendly and knowledgeable about Celiac Disease but I still ended up getting sick, so something didn’t work. I would recommend really emphasizing the need for no cross contamination.
I have tried a few times to eat here because of group happy hours and other things people have chosen. Every time I get sick. They put flour tortilla chips on my salad when I ask for the salad without them and they took them off but a few were left. They no nothing about the fact that a shared fryer is contaminating. Don’t eat here.
They do have a dedicated gluten free fryer! But the service is slow and the food is mediocre at best.
My review below is before they moved and tore down that building. We went last night. They fessed up after over an HOUR of waiting that they couldn't do the gluten free frier because they were "too busy"!!! So beware. We waited almost 2 hours for food. And didn't get what they promised and what they used to do! So disappointed. They may not have a separate frier anymore. No clue if they can even do gluten free anymore. Beware. So sad. We used to go here a lot. But they moved an supposedly improved. They didn't. Watch out. You need to really make a point to tell them you are GF and ask that everything be taken seriously. We went here frequently with no problems. They will fry tots or fries separately IF YOU REQUEST IT. One time we didn't make it a point to request it and they fried my son's fries with the fish and chips that had gluten. He was sick as a dog and they didn't tell us until after he had eaten quite a few fries. So now we make a huge deal and ask a few times if they are GF before he and I eat. Many choices. They have a separate menu. Just make sure you tell them you have a GF allergy and that they write it down.
Nice gluten free menu & a dedicated fryer! I have Celiac and eat here regularly without any problems. Gluten free buns & gluten free pizza too.
Super nice server... But I was concerned to see Cajun Tots labeled gluten-free despite the shared fryer. Ordered cheeseburger on gf bun (discussed bun prep) and salad. Definitely glutened here tonight. Can't come back here.
This was my third time here and the least pleasurable of all my visits due to the waitress getting visibly annoyed with me asking questions about the gluten free dishes. I got the GF burger (she said the fries are NOT cooked in a separate fryer so I couldn't have them). It was really good but even though I asked her if she could ask the cook to clean the grill before doing my burger, I know she didn't. I got a little cross contaminated. Not severe, but combined with the attitude, I won't go back.
Differing experiences. One time i had a 5 star experience. Ordered here at Rooftop Bar and had cocktails and Cajun tots and was fine- bartender got a clean shaker for the drinks and told staff in the kitchen to be careful with preparing my order. She seemed knowledgeable about Celiacs. Unfortunately, went to the downstairs restaurant on another occasion and waitress was low-key rude about my allergen request. Just wasn't friendly and seemed in a bad mood about it. I got CC'd, I think by the burger although I ordered gf bun. In fairness, in regards to my dinner I did not ask for a glove change or about CC in the kitchen because the waitress made me feel embarrassed and I was with a large group of people. I risked it and paid the price. It could be ok if you ask them to glove change but I don't know and probably wouldn't order at the downstairs restaurant section again. Got medium level CC'd and I'd rate it 2 stars. Go with the Rooftop bar where there is a lower customers to staff ratio and they may be more able and willing to see to dietary needs. Maybe celiac friendly. Depends on staff.
I've been here three times since diagnosed with celiac disease. I've never gotten sick. I haven't tried the GF sandwich buns, but the GF menu has several nice options and they'll make any sandwich GF. Some servers seem more knowledgeable than others. No one has ever been rude to me about needing GF. I would love more GF options, but I'm content to have a place to go for fries. The frier is dedicated! I'll tentatively say this place is celiac friendly.
There are some limited gluten free options here. I do like the clams, and I order a side salad with no bread or croutons without a problem. I think their rice bowls are gluten free (very spicy), and they do offer gluten free buns for their burgers. Sometimes there is a gluten free option for soup.
I also had a horrid experience here. Bun was not gf though the server said it was. Sick for days. Ugh!!
I've enjoyed the gluten free burger at other McMenamins locations, but this one was horrid. I asked for a gluten free burger with grilled onions- they charge $2 more for this. I got a burger with a rock hard bun and burnt onions. I scraped the onions off, but could not bite through the bun. I returned food to the kitchen for the first time in my life. I sat there waiting while my husband finished his meal. I received another burger with a very rubbery-ugh bun and raw onions with blackened edges. I couldn't eat this one either. They must microwave the hell out of them. I don't eat out very often since I have celiac, but this was the worst experience I've ever had! The waitress didn't offer to comp anything. I didn't ask her to either. The area where we sat stunk of mildew too. At least I didn't get glutened. I'm never going back to this one!
Not gluten free friendly in beer or food selections
This is not a 1 dollar sign establishment - once you pay the upcharge for a GF bun, their hamburgers started at about $15. That was about the cheapest thing on the menu for lunch. Having 3 kids, we left rather than pay $100+ for lunch.
I love getting a bacon burger here without a bun and Cajun tots. They have a gluten free dedicated fryer too. The waitstaff is always very friendly and I feel safe eating here. I only wish they had a bigger gluten free menu. So yummy!

I ordered a salad gluten free no croutons and I found a crouton in my salad I notified the server and he was very disrespectful to my celiac disease he implied that I was faking I notified the manager don't go there if you have celiac disease because they are not sensitive to our needs
McMenamins had gluten free burger buns available that were surprisingly good. Their ranch is gluten free as is their special sauce which I didn't think I'd like but was surprised how much it improved the burger.The special winter cider is awesome and they also carry Omission beer there. It's a great place for a full meal or for a drink with friends. They said they fry their fries and tots in a separate fryer but I didn't try them. Maybe next time!
When it comes to atmosphere Mcmenamins gets 5 stars... When it comes to gluten free, giving them 1 star is a stretch. The first time I ate here my gluten free salad came with raspberry vinaigrette that contained beer... Luckily I asked for the ingredients before eating it. The second time I are here my gluten free/dairy salad first showed up with two huge pieces of bread served right on top and when they served me my second salad I discovered little shreds of cheese hidden throughout the salad and our gluten/dairy free steamed clams arrived with two more huge pieces of buttered bread on the plate. They have a gluten free menu but no dedicated fryer so your gluten free fries will be fried in contaminated oil and your gluten free meal prepared in the same areas as other peoples regular pizza and burger. Very unsafe and disappointing! :(
menu given was regular menu, so ask for "dietary restrictions menu", which shows more options that are GF & DF (even vegan and vegetarian) than what are on the regular menu. Enjoyed the Green Machine specialty dish with brown rice, although needed to add a bit of salt to enhance flavor.

The waitstaff at McMenamins Sand Trap Pub were helpful and the atmosphere was laid back and comfortable featuring a fireplace and rustic vintage details. The food was delicious and there were plenty of options available on the "Dietary Restriction Menu" which listed items for gluten, dairy, vegetarian, and vegan needs. Gluten free buns, gluten-free pizza crusts and ciders were available. We'll be back!
