The staff/owner was extremely knowledgeable about all ingredients going into their products and were willing to make accommodations! I had the gluten free pancakes made with almond milk. They have Earth Balance dairy free butter. Would recommend to EVERYONE!
Wow!! GF crab cakes!!!! So happy this place exists in NO! Hard to find gf crab cakes...and served on gf bread; “po-boy” style! Salad dressing was wonderful too! Had two meals here while in town for three days! ❤️’d it!!! Great staff, and service!
great food and service. I have celiac, ate two meals there & had no problems.
Simply amazing we went back every day during our trip. Thank you. Crab cakes were outstanding!
Got the gluten free blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon and did not get sick. For your information it is right next to Albertos AND the crepe cart! which have gf options. This is my safe place restaurant, will go back later for the gumbo!
Delicious salad and amazing customer service. One of the ladies helped my girlfriend find a pair of flip-flops while we waited! A real gem.
The crabs cakes are the best I have ever eaten!! Highly recommend .
Crab cake sandwich in GF bread...amazing! This was definitely worth the extra effort to find!
Such sweet staff and amazing crab cakes, pancakes and toast, all gluten free!! Made my trip to New Orleans a little more authentic because I could eat more of the seafood items...they've also got poboys!
Great location in the middle of the French Market. The man running the bar as well as the woman that I believe was doing the cooking in the back were both incredibly nice and helpful. I had some amazing gluten free pancakes, perfect texture and cook. They had a lot of great options on the menu that were clearly marked. Food is cooked to order, so if you go expecting fast food and are going to be rude while you wait expecting it to churn out in 1 minute, do everyone a favor and go to McDonald's or something. Great food and great staff are always worth any wait.
GF options including crab cake and pancakes. Don't be in a rush - everything is made to order. This is a walk up cafe window in the French Market.
Servers were friendly. Everything is cooked to order which means you'll wait a few minutes. The food is worth the wait! The food is not "better than most other GF food." It's better than most food. Five star restaurant quality food in a casual setting.
I may move to New Orleans just so I can eat crab cakes everyday! just be sure to say you are gluten free, they take it very seriously.
AWESOME place if you're avoiding gluten, definitely celiac friendly!
I love this cafe. I have a strong case of celiacs and I'm always scared when I go to restaurants. The staff was amazing and the food was great (I recommend the gumbo). All of my friends have been eating authentic New Orleans food and I haven't gotten the chance, so this was a perfect place to try some! I definitely want this to be a chain.
Went based on other reviews to get blueberry gf pancakes. They were delicious.
A great find in the French Quarter. It is within a shopping area where various vendors are located. According to my phone we had arrived at our destination but were without a clue as to where it was. I asked the person at the first station. She directed us down to where they are located. It is a little lunch counter with very limited seating. They were very familiar with how to prepare gluten free food and the gentleman who served us had an attitude of truly wanting to help me and be sure I would be okay. I had a sandwich with home style potatoes and a glass of sweet tea. It was all very good and I had no reaction at all.
Absolutely amazing! I had the GF crab cake po'boy and couldn't believe how delicious it was. We're heading back for breakfast
I'm from New Orleans, but due to my Celiac disease, I rarely eat out. Meals from the Heart is only one of two places I feel safe in the knowledge that I won't get sick. The other has gone out of business, so now it's only MFTH, which is fine with me, they have a great variety of gf foods, the staff is the best, and very attentive, and knowledgable.
They have absolutely amazing food and they have a larger variety than most places.
Absolutely amazing!!! They were extremely accommodating and the food was so yummy!
Wonderful staff and good, they genuinely care about their customers and know all about celiac. I felt very comfortable eating there and knowing I would not be sick afterwards. A must go-to when in New Orleans!
Very nice staff and gluten free options
My daughter and I both have Celiac and decided to eat lunch here. I got a turkey sandwich (Udis bread but they made it so tasty) and she got a veggie omelette with gf crab cake. They were both delicious and neither of us got sick. Staff was very knowledgeable about Celiac and made us feel safe about eating there. Only 8 stools at their stand and there was a little wait for the food and with tip, I spent $50 for the two meals, but it was definitely worth it and we'll go back again before we head home! Somebody stated cash only but they do accept credit cards now. I was very impressed with James and appreciated him thanking us for trying them and staying that he was glad that they were able to accommodate our needs. So were we James!
Very knowledgeable about gluten. Very careful. Nice staff who cares about your health. Ate there twice and never got sick. The only gluten free gumbo I found in New Orleans. It was great. The chicken Po-boy was good, not great. But worth eating for you're having trouble finding safe options. Update 5/31/17: went back this year. So glad to have GF gumbo and crab cakes. The only place I found in NOLA. Despite telling them 3x I was GF they served me gluten crab cakes. Luckily the woman who gave me my food caught it. So be aware that both the vegan and regular gumbo are GF. But they make crab cakes with and without gluten. So make sure you are getting the right kind. Also 25 minutes to get food, so be patient. But it was worth the wait!
I got okra gumbo and felt great after. I am a very sensitive celiac and the guy working talked to me about different menu items. I appreciated the extra step he took to ensure I felt comfortable. This place was great, and I loved being able to grab something to eat in the middle of the French market. Great place!
Amazing crab cakes!!!
I had the most amazing time in New Orleans because of this fantastic food establishment. The family that runs it and the staff are just amazing. I tried over 20 times during my stay and felt great from meal to meal. A great place to meet like-minded Folk and and connect with great food for the Celiac community. I will come back and back and back. Everything from their pancakes or crab cakes and poached eggs po boys and even amazing grits salmon and eggs dish that's delicious. Usually takes 10 to 20 minutes to prepare but they really take care of you. Plus also not to forget there vegan power shake. Simply made my trip a joy. Vegan options as well and an avocado beet salad I relied on heavily when I was there. Even vegan gumbo that was quite delicious.
It was so refreshing to sit down and have the man behind the counter (who was amazing) ASK if we had any food allergies they could accommodate before we even ordered. I also react strongly to cane sugar, and when he set my GF pancakes down it's like he read my mind and told me "this is 100% pure maple syrup." I also had the Carrot Orange Ginger juice which was VERY fresh, and my fiancé had an omelette and bacon and loved it as well. If I could give 10 stars I would!
Love, love , love Meals from the Heart! My go to place in the area. I Always get the GF crab cake poboy. So delicious! They have Gf breakfast and some yummy shakes too. Staff is awesome. Always a great experience.
This eatery had the best crab cakes I have ever had. Literally a spiritual experience..... Staff are great. Would recommend 100%
really sweet and attentive staff.
This corridor of the French Market with the Crepe Cart just across really helps a person w Celiac navigate gluttonous NOLA!!! Food was delicious and the people simply wonderful.
Seriously, I can't even describe how amazing these crab cakes are... the best gluten free meal in the city. Possibly the best crab cake ever. I have celiac and the owner took amazing care of me. No issues. Please visit if in the area!!!
Had the crab cake po boy, and it was delicious and filling. Great service, and such a fun atmosphere at a little stand in the French Market.
Good experience! My 4-year-old daughter is a celiac and had no reactions after eating here. She enjoyed her pancakes with bacon. We had po-boys and they were good as well. Don't take the mixed veggies as a side though - they surely came straight from the freezer. It's rather like a foodstand with outside seating, bytheway.
It is good. I had the chicken poboy with the potatoes. Just know if you go at lunch that it might be longer than a 20 min wait. I think was closer to 30 min or longer to get my food. But everything is done fresh to order.
Outstanding! We had the pancakes with grits and eggs! Everything was fresh and healthy and it taste great.
We went to days in a row and the crabcake Po boy was good! We also ordered the gluten-free gumbo and that was pretty good too. My husband ordered the gluten-free crabcake tacos and the tortillas were a little dry.
I has breakfast here twice. I had the crabcake and poached egg. it was great! the second day I had the blueberry pancakes. also great. I had the combo carrot and orange juice. they give orange slices to eat while you wait.
Amazing! Super friendly and helpful. All the food is healthy and delicious and you can get Gluten Free crab cake po'boys or Gumbo! Menu options are extendive and many were vegan or gluten free. Made my day!
Delicious food, but very slow and chaotic service.
Gluten free pancakes, sausage, grits, and yummy crab cakes. Everything was delicious and clearly marked on the menu. Quite a few options. Portions are rather small (based on American appetites) but glad to have GF options in the market. They were very busy so we waited about 40 minutes. Luckily there were enough of us to take turns holding seats while the others enjoyed shopping.
Awesome food and all gluten free extreme celiac here and no reaction! Love it
If you don't have celiacs the food is great, if you do it's a great trick for you to become deathly ill.
I have been here every day for breakfast while on vacation. They are very careful about GF. BEST crab cakes I've ever eaten!!
Great food and service!! Loved the healthy options instead of everything fried.
Context: this is an outdoor diner at the farmers market with counter seating, so it's small - maybe 8 seats total? Yummy food. Had gf pancakes and grits. Pancakes are some of the best I've ever had, and tons of breakfast and lunch/dinner options GF or vegan, too.
Had the ocra gumbo. Delicious and stew-like, with flavorful turkey sausage. Served with a side of GF toast. It took a few minutes to prepare, which is a bit unusual with a food stall, but the guy behind the counter let us go find a table nearby while we waited. And of course there are tons of options nearby for your wheat-eater friends.
It took us over 2 hours to get there and we thought we arrived too late. They were so kind and took my order anyway because of my need for gluten-free . They said they try to do special things for their gf customers (talk about celiac friendly)! The crabcake salad was delicious.
