How did I miss that there was beignets?! My muffaletta was delicious, I’m glad I found this place on this app when we were in town November 2017 for my friend’s bachelorette.
Wonderful crab cake poboy!! Came with potatoes, also yummy!
A trip to NOLA with no po boy or beignet? No way! I hunted high & low (online) & found this gem. A sweet walk up counter in the market area. It was busy and the wait for food was a tad long but they were polite & courteous. They offered water & orange slices while I waited. My GF crab cake po boy was delicious. It was served on slices of GF bread with potatoes on the side. I miss the loaves. I felt safe and craving was satiated.
Delicious food served by the friendliest bunch of people you’ll ever meet.
This was a booth in the French Market. The food was fresh and wonderful. The only reason I gave them four stars was because we ordered and paid and then they told us they were behind and the wait would be 25 minutes for our food.
The staff was amazing and caring. The food was great, and I can't wait to go there again!
So thankful to have found this place! I have a gluten and dairy allergy and they accommodated both. Friendly staff in person and they deliver through app services like grub hub. Had the turkey Po boy, chicken tacos, and pancakes.
Amazing find for a traveler! Staff was ridiculously friendly and accommodating, even offering free ice water and orange slices on a hot day while waiting for your food. GF/DF crab cake tacos with spicy remoulade were delicious and more than enough to eat one for lunch and take one back to the hotel for dinner. OK, so it’s not cheap, but for something different and authentic to the area that I can eat with confidence and not get sick, while supporting a local small business - worth my 20 bucks any day!
Just wonderful. Ordered delivery from Postmates, and the restaurant themselves voluntarily sent me a text to confirm that everything was gluten and dairy free! (I mentioned my allergies on the order) Reasonably priced, and Very Tasty! I can see why their crab cake salad is rated #1...! (If you haven't tried postmates yet you should - use my code https://postmat.es/zGlCVBExRN to get some free delivery credit!)
Ordered gluten free crab cakes with gluten free toast. Was handed a plate with a wheat English muffin. Informed staff this must be a mistake, they told me it was my order. They only took it back when I stated I have a severe allergy to gluten and if I ate this I would get incredibly sick. Frightening experience to be told something is gluten free that is clearly a wheat product.
Very knowledgeable and went out of his way to ask about any allergies. The food was really good and the service was great.
This place delivered on so many levels I’m not even sure where to start. Let me just say that the previous reviews were right on or didn’t gush enough about this place. I have celiac so it is important for me to do a place that is GF. I ate here with my wife and had no issues. I got the poached egg and GF crab cake and it was the best crab cake I’ve ever had (including non-GF). I also ordered the cheesy grits and they were very tasty. Wish we could’ve also eaten the Okra Gumbo but just too much food. As a side note the owners’ son sat and chatted with us and the waitresses were very friendly and Celiac knowledgeable. We’ll definitely be completely by back here tomorrow or during future visits. Updated (4/26/18) - Returned today for another round of the Poached Egg with Crab Cake and an extra crab cake. Just as good as yesterday and will have to return for every future visit.
Everyone here is wonderful and attentive to all allergies. they have a lot of NOLA classics such as gumbo, poboys, crab cakes and even gf pancakes for breakfast. A little pricey for breakfast but well worth it to not get sick. Everything was delicious!!
The staff is great and the food is gf but it’s a big of a let down. Food is pretty mediocre. Had the crab Po Boy and it want great. Also it was $17. Ouch.
AMAZING. Very willing to answer any questions and very transparent about the kitchen which makes it easy
Knowledgeable and friendly staff.. amazing quality.. crab cake was out of this world!
This place is amazing! We had searched and searched for GF and these guys were well worth the wait! Amazing local and fresh cuisine. Tried the crab cake tacos...decadent! Amazing service too.
Staff immediately responded to “celiac” and assured they would take care of me and there would be no cross contamination. My crab cake tacos were incredible! Had to wait a little while but it was lunchtime, and clearly they make everything to order. Staff brought out orange slices while we waited on our food. The house made lemonade was some of the best I’ve ever had, too. Eat here!
Went out of my way to walk to this place and when I got there at 11:40 am -- prime lunchtime, they told me they wouldn't serve me because they were having an internal meeting. WTF?!?! Bad business! Go to the Crepe Cart instead! Amazing service and the vegan gluten free savory Crepe was perfect!
Pancakes delicious. Omelet good. Crab cake THE BEST. Then went back today for the crabcake Po Boy. So good. Served with fresh orange. This is small counter top but plenty of seats in middle of French market. Next to them is Alberto which serves wine beer. Etc. and a gf muffalatta. So today we went and go gf poor boy at meals with a heart and a muffalatta at Alberto’s. Perfect!!!! Worth a visit.
the gluten free pancakes are amazing my mom and I go here every chance we get
The staff/owner was extremely knowledgeable about all ingredients going into their products and were willing to make accommodations! I had the gluten free pancakes made with almond milk. They have Earth Balance dairy free butter. Would recommend to EVERYONE!
Wow!! GF crab cakes!!!! So happy this place exists in NO! Hard to find gf crab cakes...and served on gf bread; “po-boy” style! Salad dressing was wonderful too! Had two meals here while in town for three days! ❤️’d it!!! Great staff, and service!
great food and service. I have celiac, ate two meals there & had no problems.
Simply amazing we went back every day during our trip. Thank you. Crab cakes were outstanding!
Got the gluten free blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon and did not get sick. For your information it is right next to Albertos AND the crepe cart! which have gf options. This is my safe place restaurant, will go back later for the gumbo!
Delicious salad and amazing customer service. One of the ladies helped my girlfriend find a pair of flip-flops while we waited! A real gem.
The crabs cakes are the best I have ever eaten!! Highly recommend .
Crab cake sandwich in GF bread...amazing! This was definitely worth the extra effort to find!
Such sweet staff and amazing crab cakes, pancakes and toast, all gluten free!! Made my trip to New Orleans a little more authentic because I could eat more of the seafood items...they've also got poboys!
Great location in the middle of the French Market. The man running the bar as well as the woman that I believe was doing the cooking in the back were both incredibly nice and helpful. I had some amazing gluten free pancakes, perfect texture and cook. They had a lot of great options on the menu that were clearly marked. Food is cooked to order, so if you go expecting fast food and are going to be rude while you wait expecting it to churn out in 1 minute, do everyone a favor and go to McDonald's or something. Great food and great staff are always worth any wait.
GF options including crab cake and pancakes. Don't be in a rush - everything is made to order. This is a walk up cafe window in the French Market.
Servers were friendly. Everything is cooked to order which means you'll wait a few minutes. The food is worth the wait! The food is not "better than most other GF food." It's better than most food. Five star restaurant quality food in a casual setting.
I may move to New Orleans just so I can eat crab cakes everyday! just be sure to say you are gluten free, they take it very seriously.
AWESOME place if you're avoiding gluten, definitely celiac friendly!
I love this cafe. I have a strong case of celiacs and I'm always scared when I go to restaurants. The staff was amazing and the food was great (I recommend the gumbo). All of my friends have been eating authentic New Orleans food and I haven't gotten the chance, so this was a perfect place to try some! I definitely want this to be a chain.
Went based on other reviews to get blueberry gf pancakes. They were delicious.
A great find in the French Quarter. It is within a shopping area where various vendors are located. According to my phone we had arrived at our destination but were without a clue as to where it was. I asked the person at the first station. She directed us down to where they are located. It is a little lunch counter with very limited seating. They were very familiar with how to prepare gluten free food and the gentleman who served us had an attitude of truly wanting to help me and be sure I would be okay. I had a sandwich with home style potatoes and a glass of sweet tea. It was all very good and I had no reaction at all.
Absolutely amazing! I had the GF crab cake po'boy and couldn't believe how delicious it was. We're heading back for breakfast
I'm from New Orleans, but due to my Celiac disease, I rarely eat out. Meals from the Heart is only one of two places I feel safe in the knowledge that I won't get sick. The other has gone out of business, so now it's only MFTH, which is fine with me, they have a great variety of gf foods, the staff is the best, and very attentive, and knowledgable.
They have absolutely amazing food and they have a larger variety than most places.
Absolutely amazing!!! They were extremely accommodating and the food was so yummy!
Wonderful staff and good, they genuinely care about their customers and know all about celiac. I felt very comfortable eating there and knowing I would not be sick afterwards. A must go-to when in New Orleans!
Very nice staff and gluten free options
My daughter and I both have Celiac and decided to eat lunch here. I got a turkey sandwich (Udis bread but they made it so tasty) and she got a veggie omelette with gf crab cake. They were both delicious and neither of us got sick. Staff was very knowledgeable about Celiac and made us feel safe about eating there. Only 8 stools at their stand and there was a little wait for the food and with tip, I spent $50 for the two meals, but it was definitely worth it and we'll go back again before we head home! Somebody stated cash only but they do accept credit cards now. I was very impressed with James and appreciated him thanking us for trying them and staying that he was glad that they were able to accommodate our needs. So were we James!
Very knowledgeable about gluten. Very careful. Nice staff who cares about your health. Ate there twice and never got sick. The only gluten free gumbo I found in New Orleans. It was great. The chicken Po-boy was good, not great. But worth eating for you're having trouble finding safe options. Update 5/31/17: went back this year. So glad to have GF gumbo and crab cakes. The only place I found in NOLA. Despite telling them 3x I was GF they served me gluten crab cakes. Luckily the woman who gave me my food caught it. So be aware that both the vegan and regular gumbo are GF. But they make crab cakes with and without gluten. So make sure you are getting the right kind. Also 25 minutes to get food, so be patient. But it was worth the wait!
I got okra gumbo and felt great after. I am a very sensitive celiac and the guy working talked to me about different menu items. I appreciated the extra step he took to ensure I felt comfortable. This place was great, and I loved being able to grab something to eat in the middle of the French market. Great place!
Amazing crab cakes!!!
I had the most amazing time in New Orleans because of this fantastic food establishment. The family that runs it and the staff are just amazing. I tried over 20 times during my stay and felt great from meal to meal. A great place to meet like-minded Folk and and connect with great food for the Celiac community. I will come back and back and back. Everything from their pancakes or crab cakes and poached eggs po boys and even amazing grits salmon and eggs dish that's delicious. Usually takes 10 to 20 minutes to prepare but they really take care of you. Plus also not to forget there vegan power shake. Simply made my trip a joy. Vegan options as well and an avocado beet salad I relied on heavily when I was there. Even vegan gumbo that was quite delicious.
It was so refreshing to sit down and have the man behind the counter (who was amazing) ASK if we had any food allergies they could accommodate before we even ordered. I also react strongly to cane sugar, and when he set my GF pancakes down it's like he read my mind and told me "this is 100% pure maple syrup." I also had the Carrot Orange Ginger juice which was VERY fresh, and my fiancé had an omelette and bacon and loved it as well. If I could give 10 stars I would!
