I loved it. I’ve eaten there a few times it was very safe for me. I have a very severe allergy and didn’t get sick. Just about everything had a gluten free option. Loved the crab cakes/crab tacos/gumbo/shrimp and grits and king cakes!
Great option inside the French Market. GF Crab cake po boy was yummy, Bloody Mary too. Will report back in a couple days about reactions.
Ate here twice. The person working noted the allergy and gave me gluten free bread along with my vegan gumbo. The bread looks like the Schars brand ciabatta. Everything was good and I didn’t get sick. This is a nice place to go because there are a bunch of other options for non gf people too, so nobody feels stuck eating gluten free stuff with you.
I’m so disappointed in this place! We ordered gluten free gumbo and we said no bread. She assured me the bread was gluten free, so we ate it. We went to the table near the restaurant and my son ate the bread. He told me it tasted like gluten so I took a bite also and assured him that she went and read me the ingredients. A few minutes later they found us to let us know they served us the wrong bread. While we were talking to them our gumbo was thrown away by someone cleaning the tables. They did not offer me a refund but offered to give me more gumbo. No thanks! Also their website says they have all kinds of food and gluten free food - but they were only serving gumbo that was GF. Never again!!
I got the shrimp and grits which were delicious, but I got sick. I checked after and realized they had given me gluten bread despite my order of gluten free. Definitely double check when you get your order before you eat it!
Food was ok - we ordered the gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice to share. The gumbo and jambalaya were very tasty and but the red beans and rice were bland. I ordered all three dished gluten free but two were served with gluten toasts - I checked that it was gluten free before taking the food and their response was that they were annoyed to have to remake.
I had the crab passion salad and my husband had the crab po’boy. While the food was good, the crab cakes were the tiniest I have ever seen! They tasted great and I could definitely taste the crab, but for the price this was not a very filling meal. My salad was supposed to have avocado. It did not and when I asked about it I was told they were out. So my salad really had very little to it.
Meals from the Heart has your back when it comes to dietary needs! They have an entirely separate vegetarian/vegan menu and all their gluten free options are clearly marked. I haven't seen anywhere else I could eat just about anything on the menu. Some offerings, like the beignet donuts, are only available on occasions when the chef has been able to prepare them. Highly educated on special diets and they'll take good care of you. Oh the food is delicious too!
Clearly the name of this restaurant tells all. Vegan and GF. Focused on wellness eating. Very good. Staff very in tuned to CD requirements. I was recovering from a bad experience elsewhere and needed to be somewhere I could trust. This place fit the bill. The grill was cleaned for my meal. Food was very good. Staff kind and helpful.
Cashier was obviously not interested in his job and was on the phone while taking orders. Despite that they had very good signage next to each dish and had GF jambalaya and gumbo. They use okra to thicken their gumbo so no flour needed! Prepared separately and came with gf bread, which wasn’t clear to me on the signage so a pleasant surprise!
I was a little nervous to eat here. Most of the 41 reviews were positive, but there were a couple of hiccups. It was very busy, but the young lady who took my order mentioned they are careful to insure no cross-contamination. I had a po-boy shrimp with potatoes and a honey-sweetened lemonade. I am very sensitive to gluten, and I was fine! It is annoying I check my watch to make sure I am home 3 hours later, in case. And, I must trust the kitchen staff, the chef. But, once again, I was fine, and it was very tasty, a bit spicy. I finally had a po-boy in New Orleans. The gluten free French baguette was small but tasty
I felt fine afterwards but was not confident at all after my experience. I confirmed the gumbo was GF and ordered it, specifying I needed GF. After and extremely long wait, I was handed a bowl of gumbo (thankfully covered) and a wrapped thing on top. The cashier said it was bread - when I asked if it was gluten free bread, he acted surprised and said "I think so." I must have looked perturbed because he volunteered to check. Yeah, it was NOT GF. He took it back and did offer to get me GF bread but I declined after confirming that the gumbo actually was GF.
Gumbo was fine. I did not get sick, but the whole thing made it clear the fact that I'd ordered gluten free was never communicated to the back.
GF gumbo was delicious. Crab cakes are nothing amazing. Not a personal fan of the GF Po Boy as it just doesn’t hold a candle to the non-GF version. Separate GF prep table and cleaned griddle before making my meal. One of several amazing GF establishments in the French Market. Left plenty full and happy.
Terrible. $39 for a little crab cake, “gumbo” with just chicken and an order of a few inedible cold hard “beignets.” I had to go back and ask them to put sausage and shrimp in our gumbo. One of the servers tried to tell me that it’s whatever you get in your bowl. Luckily, there was someone more professional there to assist and correct the problem. Won’t be back. The First server also said she was going to bring our food to us. She never did, so I heard my name being called and so I went over. I would’ve been happy to but she told me she was going to come over. Very strange.
The food was fantastic! I got a shrimp poboy on gluten free bread and cajan potatoes. The waiter was very knowledgeable about allergies. There are several items on the menu that are GF.
Awesome gumbo and crab cakes, very knowledgeable and great food
