Gluten friendly marked on menu. Reception and waiter both agreed they would do their utmost to avoid cross contamination as I'm coeliac. Meal ordered and delivered by another staff member (I thought he was a chef at first) I commented that I had ordered without a bun because I am coeliac and being cautious. This staff member sarcastically commented loudly that there was a high risk of cross contamination in the kitchen. I talked it out with my hubby and said I didn't feel comfortable eating it. I was furious and hungry. My waiter returned and offered to have remade, at first I refused. My confidence in the food was gone, my waiter then said the other staff member was not a chef and that he didn't know why he had touched my food. He assured me he would have the meal remade with great care, which he did. The cost of my meal was removed from the bill and my waiter apologised. My meal of chicken, smashed potatoes and vegetables was hot and tasty. Unfortunately they have a staff member who needs attitude training.

Solid burger on gluten free bun. Cute spot in the middle of Hollywood!

We ate at Mel’s in San Francisco and it was a pleasant surprise to have a good selection of gf items. When we arrived in LA we spotted a Mel’s and knee this would be a safe spot for lunch. Although not a dedicated gf menu, buns are swapped for gf bread.

There wasn’t anything safe and the staff weren’t helpful.

They don‘t have a lot of GF options. I was there for breakfast and got scrambled eggs and toast. I always get sick after a few minutes if I ate gluten and after this I had symptoms the whole day.

All fries and homemade chips were listed GF on the menu but when you ask they don't have a dedicated fryer so they were not actually GF. Its frustrating that they have them listed on the menu as gluten free if they actually aren't after sharing a fryer with non GF items. No GF bun for hamburgers either had to eat the burger on GF sandwich bread.

Fryers are not dedicated, even though menu indicates GF. They do seem to have plenty of options for making a meal GF. When I received my meal (after asking for no roll), it came with roll sitting right on top of my chicken. We told the waitress and she was so upset that her cooks didn't listen. She quickly remedied it and apologized profusely.
It was pleasantly surprising to find so many GF options on the menu. Food was great. Service was great. Highly recommend.

they have a lot of gluten free items as indicated on main menu however their fries aren't gf as they're cooked in the same fryer as onion rings etc. also, they don't have gf buns, only bread, so I was disappointed by my burger but at least I didn't get sick!
Really surprised that Mel's Diner was a gluten-free friendly as it is...the majority of the menu can be made gluten free. Great place and worth a visit.
