Unsafe for celiac. The lady at register was very nice and told us there is lots of cross contamination. We decided not to eat there, so I can’t rate the food, but it looked delicious.

I LOVE THE MELT SHOP it’s the best place ever It has gluten free bread which makes it so that me and my family can eat there

The bread is so good! You wouldn’t know it’s gluten free. The staff is knowledgeable. The tots are GF as well! The sandwich may seem “small” but it is totally filling.

Delicious gluten free grilled cheese, tomato soup to dip it in and tots! Haven’t tried the shakes yet but stay tuned, I will! Friendly staff and super clean place. And great prices too!

Wonderful experience here! The employees were knowledgeable regarding cross contamination and how the sandwiches needed to be altered to accommodate our gluten free needs. The tater tots are fried in a designated fryer so we were able to enjoy these as well. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again in the future.

Super awesome. Asked if it was an allergy or a preference (to change gloves or not.). GF burger melt was to die for!

Great food. Front counter person ask if our GF was an allergy and said she would take care of it.

What a fantastic find in NY thanks to you guys. Was here 2 weeks ago and didn't know it existed. We fly home today, so this made my day! The Staff are sooo friendly and helpful and gave good advice. I went for the Grilled Chicken Sandwich on Gluten Free Bread with Tater Tots. The G/F Bread was only 50 cents dearer. I've been paying $2 extra elsewhere. My meal was Delicious!! Can't wait to come back and eat here again

Spectacular GF bread and they can do any sandwich on the menu except the fried chicken of course. We will be back many times!

Gluten free bread for the sandwiches was awesome. So were the tater tots

Food was amazing! I saw others ratings and was a little concerned, but I had no problem with a melt and tater tots. The cashier did warn that they can't guarantee celiac friendly but they do there best!

Thought I would be OK here because I don't have Celiac and can usually tolerate a little cross contamination, but the girl at the register asked if I wanted the tater tots bc they were GF. They were not. Only ate those on my lunch break and got very sick by the end of the work day. Gave the sandwich to my boyfriend.

I had a sandwich and loved it. They warned that there may be some cross contamination and they cannot guarantee gf. If you are gluten sensitive this is a great place!!

Are here one time and got horribly sick. Later found out they grill the GF bread and regular bread on the same sandwich presses. Unbelievable!! AVOID!!

Glorified grilled cheese, with lots of cross contamination. Cheaper than many things in the area, but not great.

allergic to wheat so not celiac, but I had the burger melt with no cheese sauce and was fine. GF bread was better than a lot of places I've been. staff was knowledgeable about gluten in certain things.

If you are sensitive, I would advise to skip this place or order a salad. They do have GF bread, but they are also moving non-GF bread all over the place. I think the air probably has gluten in it. If you are not very sensitive it might be ok. My celiac-wife had a salad and really liked it. On a side note, I do not have gluten issues and my #3 sandwich was GLORIOUS.

I ate at Melt recently and I ordered a grilled cheese on gluten free bread. They don't have a dedicated area for grilling my sandwich and used the same utensils that they used with regular wheat bread. I wasn't too worried because although I have celiac I am not as sensitive as some are with slight cross contamination. I appreciated them not slicing my sandwich with the same knife that they use for other sandwiches and notifying me that their cheese sauce is made with flour so he wasn't going to put it on the sandwich. I did however get sick fairly quickly after eating my sandwich and won't be back unless I am certain they have a dedicated kitchen area.

I am GFDF, and was nervous to eat here. They made it wrong the first time (used butter and cheese), but I brought it to their attention, and they were very apologetic, and remade it for me. It was delicious!! Haven't had a reaction...yay!! ;) Will be back...

Amazing gluten free sandwiches. I am very sensitive to cross contamination and ate here twice on my trip with no illness! So good!

Great service with what I would say was Super Forward Friendly attentive staff. I asked about GF bread, he said he could make any sandwich on GF bread. Accepted the long pause and questions I had. I said, "My need is an allergy, not a preference". He stopped the process, turned into the kitchen, gave instruction and followed up on it. The staff prepared the sandwich on a separate surface and used caution. In the space, a pure kitchen may not be possible. I ate, enjoyed and had no reaction to a chicken club sandwich. It was a knock out delicious sandwich. I had no reaction. Of course, I would recommend talking with them and make your own judgement. I'll go back again.

Grilled cheese made with Udi's bread - very cautious of cross- contamination. The cook changed gloves, and lined the tray with foil when making and cooking the sandwich.

Best GF grilled cheese I've had! However, talk to the management about cross contamination before you order. Read more: http://glutenfreecarolinagirl.com/2015/06/29/gluten-free-at-the-melt-shop/

Same surface cooking, so be warned! My main gripe with this place is they charge an extra .92¢ for GF bread but my grilled cheese sandwich was only slightly larger than 1/2 the size of my friend's regular sandwiches (which fill the box). It's not really a comparable swap at all, since you get charged more for less. I tried the tots, they were good as well.

They use the same surface for cooking gluten free and regular. NOT safe for celiac or very sensitive intolerance
