Meltz Extreme Grilled Cheese

Cook was not willing to help at all. We were told that all toppings have been touched by gluten and that nothing would be safe. He offered to use GF bread, but said that absolutely everything was contaminated and wasn’t willing to use fresh containers of toppings. Do NOT go here if you have celiac or are sensitive at all.

— Poor

We were initially excited to try Meltz, after reading some positive reviews. However, my experience was unfortunately disappointing.

I walked in a bit nervous due to all the gluten on the menu, but I was open-minded, hoping they could accommodate my needs. A young man at the front was very kind and went to the back to discuss with the cooks my questions about making a celiac-safe sandwich for me. Sadly, what followed was far from reassuring.

As I watched from the counter, one of the cooks reacted loudly and dismissively, stating he didn’t have time for this. Another cook seemed bothered but reluctantly agreed to use a different burner. What really shocked me was that both chefs started laughing and appeared to be mocking my situation. As the young man returned, I pointed out what I was observing. He looked back, saw it for himself, and seemed embarrassed, but there wasn’t much he could do. My family and I let him know we were disgusted by what we saw and decided to leave.

For someone with celiac disease, the attitude of the person preparing my meal is crucial. I won’t put my safety in the hands of people who are clearly immature and shouldn’t be cooking for me.

Meltz should seriously consider better training for their employees. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially when it comes to handling food for those with dietary restrictions.

So many options for gf. The person taking the order knew what was safe and not. I recommend the cubano. They cleaned the grill and changed anything that would not be safe. Anything that is fried is done in oil that is contaminated

Delicious! I feel it was safe. The owner is very educated about cross contamination. Lots of choices! My Cubano sandwich was great!

Cashier was knowledgeable about gluten free and I love that she yelled “gluten allergy incoming!” to the kitchen staff. Fast, delicious, and I didn’t get sick! Would have never stopped at this place if I hadn’t seen it on this app. Online menu doesn’t even mention GF, but the staff is clearly well-trained. We’ll be back!

Wow! We will be back! We tried 4 different sandwiches and all were great! The staff was knowledgeable about the Gluten items on the menu, when we told them celiac and gluten allergy the gal took our order with confidence we heard her go back and alert the kitchen they all repeated it back. They prepare on a separate grill, change gloves and do everything they can to keep you safe. They also have dairy free cheese for those of us with dairy issues thanks to celiac. Sharing this experience wherever we can to help this restaurant shine!

Delicious and creative grilled cheese options! This is becoming one of our new favorite restaurants in town. When you order, you can specify that you have a gluten ALLERY which they will communicate with the kitchen. Was able to enjoy my sandwich with no symptoms whatsoever!
