Tale as old as time- celiac finds a GF restaurant, overindulges and eats one of everything while weeping happy tears into her spicy margarita. Celiac goes home feeling like the luckiest girl in the land but then whoops. Head in toilet all. Night. Long.
Manager was super nice when I called to let them know there was something amiss and even offered me a gift card for me next visit (lolololol) I so wish this one had worked out in our favor but sadly I think there are some kinks to work out.
I went here for dinner, not only did they change their location, but they changed their menu. 100% gluten free kitchen and menu!! So delicious! We got the guacamole flight with the house, poke and Mediterranean guacs. Cauliflower taco which was AMAZING and the vegetable burrito cooked as a chimichanga. I wish we had room for dessert because they offer fried ice cream, cheesecake and churros! Can’t wait to go back!! If you like Mexican food and want to feel at ease eating anything you want..go here!!
Blending traditional Mexican plates with the colors and flavors of the Southwest, Mezcal presents a variety of dishes combining the casual with the more refined allowing guests to enjoy a wide range of offerings. Fresh made-to-order guacamole, expertly crafted margaritas and an unrivaled tequila list are reasons enough to experience Mezcal’s exceptional service, warm hospitality and lively setting again and again.
I had the best experience! The waiter I had, when I told him I was celiac, informed me that the entire restaurant was gluten free! There’s also someone on staff that is celiac so understands the importance of everything. As an app I got the street corn guacamole. My entree was a chicken quesadilla. And as a dessert I got fried ice cream. Besides being full, there was no reaction at all! Couldn’t tell that the quesadilla was even on a gf tortilla (it was a rice and something blend, I forget what the other flour was).
Asked at the host stand if they’re entirely gf they said yes. Expressed to my waitress I am allergic to gluten (I know I am celiac but my gastro told me to just say allergic because it’s taken more seriously). I am now having intense upper stomach pain that I only get when I am Glutened. Do with that info what you will. I haven’t been glutened in MONTHS and everything else I ate today and this week has been home cooked in my entirely gluten free apartment. Very disappointed. Would definitely not go back. Sad they told me they’re 100% gluten free when they clearly are not.
So....everything on the menu was advertised as gluten free. As a celiac who doesn't usually get to eat things like burritos or chimichangas, I was delighted. I didn't ask questions about what type of tortillas were used because, well, everything was supposed to be GF. I ended my meal with churros, which the waiter said had only recently been switched to GF. Everything was delicious. But an hour after dinner, my head was in the toilet and I threw up my whole meal.
Still not sure what happened...maybe I just ate too much or had half a glass too much margarita. But it was a severe enough reaction that I figured I should warn my other celiac peeps to ask more questions than I did, just in case..
This restaurant is an American Mexican adaption, not really a Mexican restaurant at all. The food was incredibly average and under spiced, which I have heard from friends even prior to moving locations and changing menus. The drinks and guacamole are worth a stop if you are in the area. Service was stretched thin and the kitchen did not follow the meal requests I had made, so management kindly comped my app. I did enjoy my meal because I have been in the mood for plain food lately. With the new location and new menu, the only gluten in the restaurant is the beer/alcohol they serve.
No GF menu, but as with most Mexican food, most things are naturally GF/can be easily substituted. Their house tortilla chips are made in a shared fryer but they do have GF chips if you ask! Their guac is amazing and many tacos are GF with a corn tortilla as well as a lot of the entrees. I’ve been here countless times and have never been sick.
Food was great my husband is gluten sensitive, staff was and accomodating.
The food was decent. The service was horrible. Sat at the bar with only 4 other customers there and 4 bartenders on staff. No one asked us how our food was or if we needed anything. It took 15 minutes to get out tab while our stacked plates sat in front of us and our drinks were empty. One of the Bartenders decided to sit down with his friends and completely ignore us. Badddddd
They can modify most of the items on the menu to be gluten free. Also have GF chips to go with the guac. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable.
