Love that they’re gluten free and vegan. Unfortunately as someone with other restrictions, they are unable to confirm ingredients in their items. I’ve been in the cafe and at the farmers market where they didn’t know if items contained an allergen. Disappointing for a place that is supposed to be focused on dietary restrictions.
All items are gluten free and vegan, and absolutely delicious! Items also identify any other potential allergens. The muffins are moist, and completely amazing. I also love the slices of cake (every flavor I have ever tried has been great!). The frosting is so divine. I also highly recommend the Tres Leches dish. One of the most delicious treats I have ever eaten!
Some of the worst gluten free baked goods I’ve ever had. Gluten free? Yes. Tasty? No. All the baked goods are very dense and have no flavor profile outside of “sugar.” I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt because of all the good reviews but honestly, save your money.
I ordered The White chocolate strawberry silk pie which was gross. The pink florets had zero strawberry taste just sugar frosting. The white chocolate filling alone was good but the crust was just runny goop. I thought at first it was a caramel layer but it was just soggy runny crust. Also cinnamon graham crackers do not go well with white chocolate pie filling. The taste profile is way off. The Oreo crumble Cake slice had a sticker that said 2010 and after taking a bite I started to wonder if that was the year the cake was made! Lol. The cake was so dry and hard. Super dense without much flavor. The frosting was light and fluffy which made the dry hard flavorless cake even more of a stark contrast. The Sea Salt brownie was ok compared the rest but still tasted old and left a lot to be desired. All items were far too sweet as well. Sooooo much sugar was used. I want to support small businesses and being Celiac was excited to try but it was utterly horrible. Inedible. I can't believe all the good reviews. Either they had a VERY off day. Which I find hard to believe when I try multiple items or people do not know what good gluten-free baked goods should taste like. They shouldn't be so sweet that the only flavor profile is sugar. Gluten-free cake can actually be light and fluffy and moist and not have a black bean aftertaste. Pie crust should not run out of the pie pan if turned on its side. I have done a lot of gluten-free baking and cooking from scratch for those that aren't gluten-free and they never know it is different.
Well let me tell you!!! I’ve had my eye on this place my last couple of trips to Chicago and I could punch my own self in the face after eating here today!!! I got the chorizo, egg, and cheese sandwich with potatoes, peppermint brownie, chorizo quiche, and broccoli quiche. No I did not eat it all at one time but if I could have, I would have! Everything was DELICIOUS. My background, I’m an actor/specialty cook and I can cook and bake my ass off! I will make my way back to this little cafe and drive circles for parking every time I come to Chicago! I might go back tomorrow and it’s not close at all to me. YUMMY!
I’ve been a fan of Diane’s flax bread for years! Now she has a cafe, some homemade GF and vegan foods like pizza, quiche and lasagna in the freezer for take and bake. You can also get food to eat in the cafe. Extra options on weekends. Very yummy muffins and other goodies! Special order cakes are available for special occasions. (I only wish she had more savory stuff, I’m not a huge dessert person.) MB also features local products for sale, jams and candles, for example. Worth a visit! You can also catch MB at local farmer’s markets and pop-ups.
Although everything is technically gluten free, they use oats/oat milk in almost every single item. The waitress told me it was the Costco brand oat milk which I don’t think even claims to be gluten free. I ordered a meal that was supposedly modified to have no oat milk but I got a stomach ache anyway (no other major symptoms though), so I wish I had tested it with my NIMA. I’m very sensitive so most people would probably feel fine eating here but just a warning for others like me. I actually bought some of their blueberry cornbread muffins from a grocery store as well because oat milk wasn’t on the ingredient list. They tested gluten free with my NIMA but gave me a very slight stomach ache, so it could be another ingredient that doesn’t agree with me or a reaction to less than 20ppm.
Dedicated GF and dairy free bakery with an amazing variety of baked goods. Highly recommend the quiche (they managed to make a GF flaky pastry!), muffins (I had ube and raspberry green tea), and Oreo silk pie (couldn’t believe it was dairy free). They also do custom order cakes in a greater variety of flavors than I’ve seen anywhere else. Really can’t recommend this place enough
Recognized this place from seeing the name on this app. Walked inside and it’s a cute lil storefront with a dessert display, frozen/refrigerated foods to reheat later, and a kitchen/cafe for hot food and coffee. Not only is this place 100% gluten free, but it is also vegan. I ordered the grilled cheese with roasted potatoes. There are lil stools to eat and people watch or you can get stuff to go. The grilled cheese was really good and I would definitely come back soon to try out some of the desserts.
