Review

The food, prices, and portions were good, however I did fall the slightest bit unwell. I called beforehand and the staff said there’s always a risk of cross contamination, and when asked about cleaning the preparation area for me, they refused and said I should be okay if I ate regular rolls and sashimi. I still came in, however, and felt ill, not surprisingly.

Coming here has also been one of the weirdest dining experiences of my life… I told the waitress that I could not handle gluten (I specified wheat), and even the slightest contamination makes me very ill. She was kind to ask me questions about wether rice and seaweed were gluten free. I understand she was curious, but if you are going to tell me that I should be alright eating regular rolls, you should know if they are gluten free beforehand, or if you’re not sure, I would not have an issue with a “we would not be able to serve you.”

I asked her if their spicy yellowtail had gluten in it, but she asked me the same question in return. I said, “it’s different everywhere. I would not know which ingredients your restaurant uses.” And that’s true, but it wasn’t left at that, even though I tried to change the topic and order basic rolls. She asked me if I could tolerate mayo and hot sauce, I said it depends on the hot sauce because not all of it is gluten free, and she went to the back and brought out the hot sauce container. She asked me to try some spicy mayo, and in her words, “if you get a reaction, you will know if it’s not gluten free.” I came here hoping NOT to get a reaction. I was absolutely shocked and uncomfortable. I return, I said it takes me around an hour to develop a reaction, so I wouldn’t know right away. She asked me to read the ingredients of the bottle and proceeded to say that this sauce was very expensive and hard to find, and told me that it was around $20. I told her I was not interested in the bottle or the price, I was not thinking of buying it. I simply wanted to know if it was gluten free, and she asked me to read the ingredients. The ingredients looked fine, and she was kind enough to bring me a small cup of spicy mayo to use as dipping, saying “when you come back you can order with spicy mayo.”

If things turned out differently, I would come back. However, I was uncomfortable most of the time and felt like a test subject. Never would I have imagined that someone in a restaurant would ask me to develop a reaction to an ingredient I cannot tolerate. Absolutely absurd and unheard of. I am steering clear of this place by a mile radius.
