Not really much gluten free. No gluten free buns. No gluten free pizza crust Only salads and fish tacos.
This place is a tradition for us every time we come. They have the BEST Mai Tai’s, and their fish taco’s are amazing-spicy chipotle sauce. Our wait staff have always been knowledgeable about GF, and offered variations of fish specials with nonGF sauce. The lobster deviled eggs are tasty too. My son and I have never gotten sick from eating here.
I felt safe eating here but the options were super limited. The lobster deviled eggs were good and I got a bunless burger (It was between that and fish tacos). The waiter came back and said the kitchen accidentally made my burger with a bun so he had them remake it because he knew I was sensitive to cross contamination. So that was a plus! As long as you want to eat those 2-3 things, then you’ll enjoy your meal.
We felt good about the options here. Staff was relatively well trained. We did the fish tacos first (not great tasting) - not issues there. Then tried a bun-less burger and side of jalepeno mashed potatoes. That was much better tasting. Wish they had gluten free buns though!
I felt very safe eating here! The server specifically asked if I had Celiac when I mentioned my gluten allergy and rattled off the GF options without me even having to ask. There are a few appetizers (roasted chicken wings and deviled eggs) and a fair amount of entree options (fish tacos, fish sandwich with a lettuce wrap, salads, burger with no bun) that are gluten free. They also have a yummy GF dragonfruit cider (Paradise Ciders brand). I enjoyed mango lychee sorbet for dessert!
Limited choices overall, they can modify a couple of dishes to make them gf. I believe the fish tacos and deviled eggs were the only items truly gluten free so that’s what we ordered. The tacos were terrible, the fish was dry and overcooked. Based on the reviews, I asked for the mole sauce on the side so I could control the level of spicy. Glad I did because that sauce is crazy spicy (no mention of that on the menu). But I think it made the tacos even more dry and tasteless. Deviled eggs were salty and had too much mayo.
I had a mai tai & the fish tacos. They were the worst fish tacos of my trip by far. Ick. So unnecessarily spicy. The lobster deviled eggs were really good. The server did ask if I had celiac and I felt really safe eating GF here. No one else in my group loved their food either. This place is an expensive bar & way too loud which isn't my vibe. If you want actually delicious food go next door to Leilani's.
Limited GF options but the fish tacos were fantastic - some of the best I’ve had. I was skeptical of the mole sauce, but it was a delicious, light sauce (very spicy though) and not like traditional mole. Atmosphere is very much party vibes, which wasn’t my favorite, but that’s their thing.
Was recommended this place for being very GF friendly however GF options not marked on menu, and they had VERY limited GF options (no GF pizzas, no GF bread or burger buns) and many other seemingly GF friendly options for some reason or another were not. I was really disappointed. Was also told by the server there was nothing to be done about cross contamination of fries in the fryer. Told cleaning between cooking rounds was “not an option”. 🙄😒
We came here twice during happy hour while in Maui for a week. The first time we came we had reservations the second time we did not. We had to wait about 30 minutes. They have a great happy hour entertainment and deals. My favorite Mai Thai of the trip from Monkeypod! I wish they had more gluten-free options. I got the chicken wings, but they were too spicy for me. My Group also enjoyed the pizzas, burgers, and fries, as well as other cocktails. My young sons really enjoyed getting cocktails here. Staff was friendly & helpful.
Items aren’t marked gluten free on the menu, but thanks to this app, I went into it wanting the fish tacos with mole sauce. Our waitress confirmed it was gluten free. The fish tacos were great. I also ordered the broccoli which was really good too. Planning to go back again this week for the same meal!
Got the fish tacos and they were delicious! Kamalei was our server and she was fabulous. She knew exactly what my options were and when another server brought out our food he specified “prepared for celiac” which I really appreciated!
Not many options, but the fish tacos were delicious!
We had a great experience! I led by telling my waiter that I had food allergies and safely had a vodka cranberry and burger patty. I avoided the fries because they do not have a dedicated fryer. The atmosphere made it really worth it to join my family at this restaurant!
Very friendly staff. Some gluten free options. The fries are not gluten free. But they have gluten free tacos. The staff seemed knowledgeable
Not so great. Grilled mahi mahi on the side of avocado and cucumber salad passed my nima test and was nicely pan grilled if there is such a thing. However the fish tacos which were promised to be GF did not pass and gluten was found. Unfortunately, by that time the kitchen was closed so we had to share the salad and one piece of fish and went without one of our dinners.
Tried to have lunch here on our vacation. We were encouraged by the positive reviews but disappointed in the menu options and lack of knowledge of gluten issues from the hostess and waitress. Seems the only options were fish tacos (available gluten free just about everywhere) and a salad of sorts with a $14 added fish option. We left and went to the Hula Grill next door where we have eaten countless times with no gluten issues and with better options. Monkey Pod is way over-rated in this diner's opinion. I give it 3 stars because it does have some gluten free options but only three due to the limited choices and lack of knowledge of the staff we encountered.
