Very good food and all is gluten free, some vegan options
Got 6 Empanadas, the dominant flavor for all of them was salt. Found it hard to tell which meat flavor i was eating because they all had a similar look and texture and just tasted like salt.
I had seen this place online and was really excited to try it — I even considered having a dozen empanadas shipped to me earlier this year, but I was deterred by the cross-country shipping cost. GF empanadas are pretty rare and I didn’t get sick, so I really can’t complain, but I just wasn’t blown away by these. The beef was the best, and the guava and cheese is for sure worth trying, but overall they were a little dry. I should also note that I had them delivered so maybe they’re better super fresh?
Fantastic empanadas! We stopped in for a snack, the owner made them fresh and hot, delicious flavors (guava and cheese, chorizo) and we can confirm no reaction in a super sensitive celiac. Considering that these are deep fried they sit really well :) Good ingredients and nice people, win!
This place is the real deal. Carlos is the nicest and most gregarious human on the planet, and his empanadas are unbelievable.
There are SO many options, each with their own unique flavor combinations. You can get one or a pack of 6, or more. Please go and enjoy. You’ll be so glad that you did.
This place was heaven sent…until they had a limited edition empanada that was not gluten free and contaminated all the fryers.
There was a churro empanada made with wheat a little while back and it wasn’t really made-known that it had gluten in it—not sure if they’ve cleaned their facility or changed the oil since then, but they were a bit dodgy when I asked about it (I mean, if it’s cross-contaminated, then just be honest). I’m a super sensitive celiac, so I haven’t chanced it since then.
If you’re not worried about cross contamination, then these were my favorites:
Mango pork
Vegan chorizo
Guava and cheese
Vegan beef
I’m not even vegan and neither is my boyfriend, but they were so good that we would get them all the time! If anybody knows specifics about if they cleaned house, PLEASE write a review and let us know! I miss them lol.
***********UPDATE: MARCH 2024***********
It’s been about a year since I wrote the above review and, because of the influx of five-star reviews, I figured enough clean oil has been pumped through those machines to have cleared out their past gluten-filled mistakes…so I gave them another chance.
I’m glad I did because I didn’t have any reaction whatsoever! I ate there again the next day and still confirmed no reaction—YAY!!! I’m increasing my review by one star and safety heart for now, and will do the same the next time I eat there, but I’ll wait awhile to make sure it’s not a happy fluke lol. Still hesitant and I still don’t fully trust management because of how they handled the situation last time, but repairing the relationship has begun lol.
NOTE FOR DAIRY-FREE & VEGANS: In the first recent order, I asked for vegan empanadas and unfortunately was delivered cheese & meat empanadas. They gave me store credit and threw in a couple extras in the next order (which was really cool of them *gf brownie points scored*), but I remember mix-ups happening quite a bit before I got glutened there too, so just be careful and double-check your empanadas before eating them.
***UPDATE JUNE 2024***
Still no reaction-hooray! However, I’ve resolved to only order from them in person because, when I order online, I rarely receive what I ordered. Unfortunately, even the most recent time I went in person with friends, our orders were messed up—meaning we all received different flavors than what we ordered and we each ordered multiple. I’m not sure what’s going on on the ground in there, but either the color-coding isn’t enough or the person filling the orders isn’t paying attention. Not a good look especially when my friends have dairy intolerances. All I have to say is thank goodness they are dedicated gluten free otherwise this would be a very different review.
I’ve loved it every time! My fiancé and I like to get the sampling of the first 6 and share which is a great way to try a lot of the different flavors
I make a point to come here every single time I visit new york, which is fairly often—the empanadas are THAT amazing! my favorites are the mango pork and the spinach & cheese :-) the empanadas are all color-coded (naturally dyed!) to make it easy to tell the flavors apart. the service is quick and friendly. nadas is an absolute new york staple to me!
Amazing empanadas! I tried three fillings and they were all fantastic, and this is one of the most affordable GF places in New York.
The nadas are great and for me, the place has been 100% safe. Despite people reporting the fryer contaminated, as a very sensitive celiac, I haven't had any problems. It was either a misunderstanding or it's been corrected.
Great spot! Delicious! Filling! We tried the beef, chicken, pork and mango and chorizo. Loved the pork and chorizo the best but they are all good. Couple chairs inside and outside but perfect to grab and go or take out. Worth a stop!! 100% Gf. How often can you get fried deliciousness ??
This was so wonderful the guava and cheese empanadas were other worldly and the spinach and cheese and blueberry and goat cheese were also incredible. The person working was also so kind and lovely. What a great little spot!
Stumbled upon this place by accident while walking in New York City and holy cow! Everything in their menu is GLUTEN FREE!! I was very skeptical because of all the colors, but the flavor did not disappoint. My favorite was the yellow and green (I think yellow was pork?) and my wife loved the yellow and red ones. It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it for me!
A cute little takeaway place with two seats. A little heavy and salty. Better as a snack than a whole meal. The mushroom (“vegan beef “) with plantain and the cheese with guava were favorites.
Delicious! So good I went back twice! The chicken empanada was my favorite. Love being able to get a safe, yummy, street food type snack while out in NYC.
Tooooo die for!!!! Was out in city w group of friends who ate at a regular restaurant quick ran over and got a half dozen - everyone ate them on me & loved them - actually about to order them and ship to my house lol 😳🐷 they were that good!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Best empanadas I have ever had. An extremely grateful Celiac. We got every flavor!!!
All empanadas are gluten free and delicious. Order from the food app if you want a dozen for store pick up because somehow its cheaper than getting it in store. My favorite is the yellow and red colored empanadas. I think it was pork and chicken? Either way I’ve tried almost all the flavors and all were great.
WHAT A TREAT!! Run, don’t walk, if you are down in the WTC area.
The place is 100% gluten free, I was surprise to read 1-2 other comments about gluten attack, maybe the employee didn’t wash his hands but looks that the food is GF by nature, excellent empanadas, we tried 5 different flavors and all of them were successful
So delicious and gluten-free. Easy to order, tasty options. Love the Latin flavors.
The empanadas were good not great. Idk if I’d necessarily go out of my way to eat them again, but if you’re in the neighborhood and looking for a quick and easy lunch, it’s a good option
Loved Nadas and their coloful empanadas. We are from Ireland and hubby and I never had empanadas but heard all great things. Very flavorful and delicious. There is a couple of barstools to sit inside but not much sitting. Still a great place to eat. I also noticed the 1 dozen empanada is about 5$ less if you order for pick up on grubhub.
So good! I go out of my way to pick up Nadas when I have an event or party to go to. They make great celiac purse food :)
The food tasted great, and an order of three empanadas was a medium sized lunch for me. Note that this location is a food stand outside, and it has limited days/hours and might also be closed during inclement weather or seasonally.
The area where the food stand is located has dozens of other food stands and large crowds of people. I don't think any seating is available, but there are bollards/lamp posts that are useful as a tiny makeshift table where you can stand and eat your food.
Fully gluten free Awsome. Stopped serving those pesky non gluten free items. Now again 100% gluten free.
Was just walking by when I saw this place. All of their empanadas are gluten free, so I had to try one! The guy at the register didn’t speak much English, but he was so nice and recommended the mango pork.
It was such a good empanada! Piping hot, juicy pork, sweet pineapple, and a spicy hot sauce to go with it all. I definitely will be back to try the other flavors!!
Delicious empanadas (the guava and cheese is my favorite) and friendly staff. In addition the empanadas, they also make fresh juices that are very good (the soursop flavor was especially delicious). Highly recommend stopping by this new place!
I recently reached out to Nadas to confirm if they are still gluten-free and received the following response: “We no longer make the churro empanadas—also they were made off-site. That being said we are 100% gluten-free.” They also confirmed that they will only be at the WFC location of Smorgasburg this year.
