Went here with my husband a little while ago. Really tasty food! Good gf selection, even though it's not fully gf. Apparently the owner offered one gf item on the menu to start, and started to hear from the gf community that they wanted more, and so he obliged. Now most of the menu is gf, and the fried chicken is amazing!
We stopped here on the way to OBX and it did not disappoint. Great menu and staff was very knowledgeable about celiac. My celiac kiddo got nuggets and fries; I got the house salad. Both were delicious!! Big portions too. We are very nervous to eat out with my son due to cross contamination risk in restaurants, but we felt very safe here. Definitely recommend!
Only complaint is they didn’t have a high chair :)
Absolutely delicious. Felt very safe. As soon as we walked in, they asked if anyone has any food allergies or concerns. They had a dedicated gluten free menu. Everything was great!
It’s not everyday you can get FRIED gluten free chicken nuggets, tenders, and chicken sandwiches at a restaurant. Dedicated fryer and the chicken is all freshly breaded and fried. Breading is very light. If you aren’t a fan of dark meat, consider splitting a pound of chicken nuggets. They cannot guarantee the fries and tots since they are not made in house (though they don’t contain gluten), but the potato wedges are great as another shareable option! They will let you know which dipping sauces aren’t gluten free (I believe only 1 isn’t). Very good and will continue going there!
Delicious chicken, nuggets, fries, deviled eggs, and cocktails. Highly recommend!!
All the staff were very knowledgeable and communicative. The host (maybe the manager or owner from vibe) said that their find me gf rating was the most online rating to them. They just added an additional dedicated fryer since their gf business has been increasing so much.
Fried chicken in the bone, so good, you won’t know it’s gluten free! Waffle fries could have been cooked a little bit more. We placed a takeout order and upon opening they were still very light in color with no crispness. Still delicious though.
GF Caesar salad dressing had a kick of heat to it. Needed more dressing. No croutons to make it GF.
If placing a take out order, check your order and sauces. We weren’t given all the sauces and ketchup we asked for, or the soda we ordered, which is tough when you’re at a hotel. Well worth trying this restaurant!
The food was safe and delicious. The gluten free items are marked.
Fabulous find on our way to Norfolk airport. 2 dedicated fryers for fried chicken and fries. Fried chicken and sandwiches were fantastic - tasted like regular versions, altho as usual the GF bun fell apart. Got chicken tenders and tots to go for our long plane ride home. Owner genuinely cares for the GF community - super celiac safe. A must stop for friend chicken if you’re in the area!
This place can do any chicken (even breaded) GF. I got the chicken tenders and they tasted good, but they were super pink in some areas. Only ate about 1 and a half because I was worried they weren’t cooked enough. I also got waffle fries and those were pretty good! There were only 2 other people in the restaurant and the service was incredibly slow. Overall, disappointed.
I was very excited, because I thought I finally could have gluten-free fried chicken. I was very disappointed when I opened up the box and saw the pieces of chicken that I got. I paid eight dollars for two of the tiniest pieces of chicken I have ever seen. It wasn’t bad, but I am not sure I would go back. I am glad that other people had better experiences.
This place is amazing!! If you’re wondering if you should go or not, GO!!! While there is no separate GF menu, all servers are very knowledgeable about which items are and aren’t GF (including which items are/aren’t made in GF fryer), down to the sauces! My fiancé and I come here almost once a week since November and it never fails to amaze. The servers are friendly, the environment is very unique and quirky, there are lots of different seating options- tables, bar, booths. Our go-to is the 10ct gf chicken strips and a basket of fries. I get the honey mustard and ranch with that (both of these sauces are gf) and he gets the honey mustard (gf) and the miso ginger (not gf sauce). The fries there have their own fryer, and if you order gf chicken they fry it with the fries. Non gf chicken/appetizers go into the glutened fryer. It’s very nice being able to tell your server you have celiac and they say “Oh awesome! Let me tell you your options!” instead of them staring at you blankly. The only thing I wish they did was mark the trays with a gf skewer when they come out, bc the gf/non gf chicken looks very similar.
I got teary eyed since it was the first time I had fried chicken in 13(?) Years. It was delicious. Waffle fries were good, but nothing special. Dedicated fryers and knowledgeable staff made for a very relaxing dinner.
My husband ordered the pork belly bites, which are not gluten free. The waiter made a point to tell me. And he told me again when he brought them out as a reminder. So thoughtful!
Gluten free fried chicken sandwiches!!! There is not a gluten free menu; your server discusses modifications with you and nearly everything can be prepared gluten free. I had a hot honey chicken sandwich and waffle fries. The waffle fries are gluten free in a dedicated fryer. There is a dedicated fryer for gluten free fried chicken items also. Our server was knowledgeable regarding substitutions and pointed out how my gluten free bun was different when the meals came out.
Love this place!! If you have a preference for white or dark meat, read the menu carefully. I haven’t had any sandwiches, but you can’t go wrong with the pound of nuggets or 2/3 piece chicken. I prefer white meat, and those are our faves. I also love the fries. All GF items are prepared in a dedicated fryer. The staff is VERY knowledgeable about celiac, and my daughter has never had symptoms after eating there.
I wanted to try this place , not only for the pithy name, but also due to reviews here and other recommendations. First , I must say that for the price the portions are exceptional. The fried chicken was delicious. The nuggets were dry and the strips were even drier. Like I had to chomp and pull and I could still not bite off a piece. I personally thought the sauces were weird and gross. The breading did not look like something from a restaurant. It kind of reminded me of how a powdered donut looks when it has been dunked in milk.
This place has celiac safe options. They do not have a separate menu and things are not marked which is a little frustrating. I had pulled chicken that was on top of some fried potatoes. The potatoes were excellent. I asked for hot honey on the side. It was one of their sauces. It did not taste like hot honey, but it was good on the chicken and potatoes. If you get the pulled chicken and potatoes, I highly recommend getting a sauce to go with it. The serving size was enormous. I had leftovers for the next day, and I couldn’t even finish those.
My wife & I recently visited Neat Bird based on the reviews of: FindMeGlutenFree. The reviews looked VERY promising!
Our server asked if anyone has any food issues. That's HUGELY important for me as I have celiac disease, but also can't have eggs or dairy. Neither is a choice! Bad stuff happens when I have any of those 3 things!
She not only asked the questions, but was also SUPER knowledgable of navigating the menu to keep me safe. Do you know how many places do that? VERY few unless it's a dedicated restaurant for those of us with food issues. Do you know how infrequently people like me get to relax when they go out to eat? It's almost never IF we even go out. So she put both my wife & me at ease that I was going to be able to enjoy what I ordered & not have reactions to accidental cross-contamination!
To the food. It's literally been over 20 years since I've been able to have fried chicken. I was FLOORED that they could do it with GF ingredients in a dedicated fryer. I was even more floored that they didn't put it in a cow's milk or egg wash. The latter 2 have often knocked me out of getting fried anything at other places that said they had GF fried foods. That or they didn't have a dedicated GF fryer.
It was soooooo good. I ordered an 8 piece and, even though I didn't want to, I stopped eating as didn't want to feel bad from eating WAY too much, but it was so hard to stop as it was soooooo good!
I HIGHLY recommend Neat Bird!
Absolutely fantastic. We had the fried chicken, cream corn with chorizo, waffle fries, cole slaw, wedges, deviled eggs, and nuggets. All were superb. The cocktail menu is creative and varied. Happy hour drink prices from 4-6pm including on the house old fashioned. This place is great.
I ordered the wedges without the lime cream and garlic mayo as they have dairy in them. The wedges were crisp and rhe bacon scallion topping were great with the bourbon bbq drizzle i added in place if the dairy ootions.
The kale is anorher level. Bacon and sundried tomatoes are in there. OMG!! Delicious!!
I ordered the frued chicken as they use rice flour just for us special folk. Cripsy and fabulous. It is a longer wait for the GF chicken to cook, but whoo cares. Their bourbon selections is long and ON POINT!! So well worth the 18 minute wait. The service was super fast tonight and I had time to relax and enjoy.
Plus, my waitress Maya was very knowledgeable of their GF and DF options. Made this a most enjoyable experience. I will be back.
This place is great! I ordered the pound of nuggs. It was only $9 and could have fed a whole family. The potato salad wasn’t great, but the fries were. The deviled eggs were delicious too. My gluten, dairy, and egg free mom was able to safely eat fried chicken. She said it was delicious. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with pointing out food we could eat. There is no separate gluten free menu and the items are not marked, but the staff was very helpful. Most things can be made gluten free.
The deviled eggs are so good! I had the fried chicken sandwich. Really good. Loved the hot honey sauce and the fries are amazing. The service was friendly, very attentive and great all around. No reaction whatsoever. There is no gluten-free menu, but they can make all of the chicken sandwiches gluten-free and all of the sides are gluten-free except for the mac & cheese. I did suggest to them that they might want to add gluten-free desserts. I will be coming back here again.
The sever was very knowledgable on what is Glueten free and what foods could have Glueten. really enjoyed the food. All the chicken can be made Glueten free, but some of the sauses and deserts are not.
Dedicated fryer for gluten free items, server was very knowledgeable. We had the deviled eggs, and I had the 3 piece white meat gf chicken. It was delicious! Crispy, not too much breading, and chicken was moist. Potato salad was very good as well. Would definitely recommend!
Our server was very knowledgeable about GF. He said they could make anything on the menu GF and they had a dedicated fryer. I ordered the dark meat fried chicken and it was so good.
