We go here for lunch or dinner on the way from the Descanso Gardens and Pasadena. Fantastic in all respects. We have had the Beef with Snow Peas, chicken, and the Walnut Shrimp. They use gluten free soy sauce when requested and the dishes taste fantastic. Very knowledgeable staff who bring gluten free soy sauce to our table as well. We stop here whenever we are traveling from the San Fernando Valley to Pasadena. They also have takeout and we get lunch/dinner and go to the park just to the south for a picnic. There is also a bar attached to the restaurant.
I was diagnosed in 2019 and have been here countless times since then. However, today, I am confident that I was glutened after ordering takeout here. I don’t know what happened- I only ate from their white allergy containers and went first in my family buffet in order to avoid any risk of cross contamination. Yet within 15 minutes of eating, I was bloated and nauseous. Their food is always delicious, and I have had nothing but great experiences in the past, but sadly I no longer feel safe here.
I wanted to give this place a stellar review but I can’t. I had a great experience the first time. The second time I ordered, I told them I was celiac and completely understood the protocol. Unfortunately, there were wheat noodles in my dish. I went a second time and it happened again. I followed the protocol of letting them know and they assured me they would keep everything separate. Their allergy containers are white and everything was packaged accordingly. Proceed with caution.
Will make many of the dishes with tamari, wheat free soy sauce.
My husband and I can’t say enough good things about New Moon. The staff is gracious and well-informed about the menu, including all items that can be made gluten-free. The food is very fresh, delicious, portions are generous and cooked to order. I am gluten-intolerant and my husband is not. The owner has family members with food allergies, so there is a deep understanding and consideration for these concerns. Our go-to place for yummy Chinese fare.
We’ve been wanting to try this place for a while and finally went last night. I’ve been missing Chinese food as I have a gluten allergy, but was told by our waiter that most entrees can be made gluten free. Food was very fresh and delicious, portions were good and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Will be back whenever I’m craving good Chinese food.
They made my entire order gluten free. Each dish was marked with an allergy sticker.
Almost everything on the menu can be made gluten free except appetizers, soups, and some noodles.
I had orange chicken, chow fun with pork, fried rice with chicken, and string beans. I’ve been really missing Chinese food since getting diagnosed. This hit the spot!
The only drawback is that it is a little expensive. But worth the treat!
Looks like I'm unlucky as everyone else has g9od reviews
Tl;dr: Dish supposed to be free of Allergen, said allergen was found in the food and gave me issues. (Pictures on Yelp Review) Celiac beware, gluten intolerant you'll probably be fine.
Saw this place on this app with beef and broccoli and being a celiac I had to go. Got it and had a little piece of heaven, but was feeling a little weird the next day. It's hard to pinpoint what gives me issues as I ate other stuff so whatever, chocked it up.
Went back a few days ago for my fix and I eat about half, BOMB as usual, but next couple days I have no energy, diarrhea, stomach cramps, the whole 9. Finally work up a lil appetite and go to finish my food, and I see the culprit. Couple of stray noodles, in what was designated allergy/special instructions.
I really appreciate the accomodation, as it's hard to find gluten free dishes (especially one this good), but when dealing with allergies, there has to be a keen eye on caution. I am not without some fault as I chose to take a chance. Will think over that decision next time.
This restaurant is extremely celiac friendly. Every staff who helped up was well-informed about GF options and they were cautious. I thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service. I didn’t have a reaction. It’s definitely my go-to spot for Chinese food. It was fresh and so tasty. Not oily, not super sweet. Nice sized, sharing portions.
After avoiding Chinese food for years due to my son’s Celiac Disease, we happened upon the reviews for New Moon and decided to venture in. The food is absolutely delicious! We had fried rice, Kung Pao Chicken, and New Moon’s Dragon Beef. What a treat! Our new favorite, for sure!
Hands down THE BEST Chinese food we’ve ever had, and it was nearly all gluten free. You have to go.
Best gluten free Chinese ever! Never gotten sick. Flavors are amazing!
Everyone was very knowledgeable and almost everything on the menu could be made GF. Yummy food! Such a treat!!!
I was lucky and had a GF waitress but even if I hadn't they seem very GF savvy. I had the best egg drop soup I'm my life! They made me GF egg fu yung with BBQ pork that was GF. The only mistake the chef made was the sauce. It was inedible it was so salty. The waitress promptly had them make me another. Delicious.
Americanized Chinese food, a little pricey. But they were very knowledgable re: what could be made GF & what could not. We went right at opening for dinner, had a shrimp appetizer that was very good & Kung Pao shrimp, also good. Super sensitive Celiac hubby did not get sick so we will probably go back. There aren't many places for GF Chinese food.
