We went to this location because the gluten-free menu had some tasty looking options. I don't know (and don't want to risk finding out) if the issues with the menu were related to gluten or not. All I know is the food there made both my husband and I sick. All we had in common was possibly salad dressing base. So, either there was something gone bad in his food (he can eat gluten)and something glutinous in mine, or something wrong with the dressing. I am not willing to risk it again to find out.
I ordered the cauliflower crust here, and specifically told the cashier that I had a wheat allergy and asked what they did with that (if the answer was “I don’t know” or anything of that sorts, I probably would’ve gone somewhere else) and she said that they switched gloves, so I thought I would be okay. I was wrong. I can only assume from my feelings a couple hours after that they didn’t seem to take any precautions to prevent cross contamination. I am incredibly sick and that’s the only thing I ate recently today.
The main menu displayed doesn't include labeling for gluten friendly items, but the website was easy enough to navigate to figure out what was safe. Had the full size Garden Salad with balsamic vinaigrette (vegan) with no issues. Newk's is one of our trusted places to eat when we travel & this location was great for us. Friendly service, too. Would return when coming through Meridian next time.
