Several picnic tables are available for outdoor seating and they have a window where you can order without going inside. The menu posted behind the window is difficult to read due to glare from the sun, so I recommend studying the menu online before you get there if you'll be ordering from outside.
The food was great and I hope to return and try more of the menu in the future. I do wish they clearly marked the menu with a GF symbol, but I was able to confirm the status of the items I ordered with the staff. Didn't get sick.
Almost everything on the menu is gf and delicious. The three gluten items are described as such (flour tortilla, wheat bread, or sauce contains gluten). The corn tortillas used for tacos and the quesadillas were delicious and their fryer is gf so the in house corn chips are safe!
Not much gf for dessert other than flan though.
Delicious and very safe! I have been many times and have always had a positive experience.
Delicious and safe! The friendly server knew right away when I asked about gf, and he pointed out the 2 items on menu that have gluten. Menu is also marked. Server noted that the mole sauce contains gluten, but otherwise none of the sauces or marinades they use contain gluten (he said that their carnitas used to be marinated in beer, but not any longer). All tortillas are corn except the one flour one clearly marked on the menu. Cute place, fast service. I've been here twice now with non-celiac friends and everyone has loved everything they ordered. Highly recommend if you're in SF.
I ate here with my family and it was great! I called ahead to check about gluten and they knew exactly what I was talking about. They said there are only two items on the menu that contain gluten and to tell my server about my allergy and they would make sure to clean everything. They only serve corn tortillas and they also have a dedicated frier.
I like to minimize my consumption of animal products so I had the tacos dorados de camote, chilaquiles rojos (contains eggs), and vegetales a la plancha all without the dairy and a tepache to drink. Everything was yummy but I'm sure it would have been even better with the cheese and wished they had a plant based substitute. I would still recommend if you are vegan and need somewhere to go with a group but the plant-based options are limited. I'm not allergic to dairy so didn't ask about if they can accommodate someone sensitive to milk cc. The best thing I had was the tacos dorados, they are crispy tortilla rolls with soft sweet potato inside, so good! I didn't have any reaction afterwards.
Yummy food and definitely celiac safe. I am super sensitive to cross contamination and I didn’t get a stomachache. The chips are safe too because everything that goes in the fryer is GF! The servers are knowledgeable about celiac and will tell you which items (a small select few) that are not gf.
I went to the Broderick st location, and the food made me incredibly sick. I tried the Totopos con chile and pork quesadilla (quesadilla roja). I asked the waiter multiple times to cook mine in a separate pan, he didn’t really understand about cross contamination so kept going back to the chef, but eventually came back and said they cook the corn tortillas separately. I don’t know if that’s true. I got so sick that it feels like this was probably more than just cross contamination. Disappointing because it was really good, but I won’t be back.
I saw the reviews here and got very excited for so many options but felt disappointed when I tried to order. I should say I went to their main, dine-in restaurant on Broderick Street and not the to-go window on 18th. The menu is different at the dine-in restaurant. Many of the dishes I expected to be gluten free (because they often are naturally gf) were not. I was advised that most of them could not be made gluten free which I appreciated the waiter saying but also felt surprised because swapping out flour for corn tortillas seemed like all it would take for some of these dishes. Some of the dishes I expected to be gluten free that weren’t included mole poblano, carnitas (and all dishes containing it), some tacos, and flan. I ended up getting a quesadilla they made with a corn tortilla filled with cheese, chiles, and chicharrónes. They were the crispy kind (like the store-bought kind, fried pork rinds) rather than the Colombian style (sort of like a super thick piece of bacon that’s been fried). I’m not a big fan of crispy chicharrones. So, I didn’t love my meal either.
I had really high expectations when people said almost everything was gf. And that just wasn’t the case at the actual restaurant. Maybe it is at the to-go window. Either way, I felt disappointed.
The menu is almost all gluten free, however they have an item with a wheat Tortilla they put in the main grill. I was told this in Oct 2021. I asked them to make my quesadilla separate, so they made it in a pan. Make sure to ask about this, it is a possible source of cc. Food is really good.
I’m extremely sensitive celiac, and don’t take any chances, but I felt comfortable eating here. The entire menu is gluten free, except for the mole sauce, which they keep separate. I asked the server to still warn the chef about celiac and cross contamination (change gloves, clean pan, etc.). I will say that you order online (at least during Covid times), so you have to annotate that warning in your order as well. I’ve been here twice - the first time, the manager who I spoke with was honestly quite rude about me asking him to talk to the chef and give a heads up. It took a lot of back and forth to finally get him to. That being said, I did feel safe eating and had a good meal with no issues after the fact. The second time I ate here, the server was incredibly kind and immediately went to tell the chef. Disappointing treatment first go around, but the second time was great.
Our go to place for a really nice, reliable gluten free dinner. The food is delicious and the menu is almost entirely naturally gluten free. The staff are incredibly knowledgable and accommodating. Update as of 2020, their carnitas no longer contain beer making them a delicious new gluten free option. We're fans and have never had any issue here with cross contamination.
They use corn tortilla's for most of their dishes, great gluten free options.
